As Cabela's Inc. CAB +0.45%prepares the selection of guns it will sell for the holiday season and winter hunting, the outdoor-gear retailer has two plans: one if President Barack Obama is re-elected, and one if he isn't.
The Sidney, Neb.-based retailer and other companies in the guns-and-ammo business say if Mr. Obama wins a second term they are preparing for a surge in salesthe same as they saw after he was elected in 2008from buyers fearful the president would back policies to make buying a gun more difficult. If Republican challenger Mitt Romney wins, though, the chain plans to stock more items such as waterproof boots and camouflage hunting gear.
"If Mitt Romney is elected and there's no perceived threat on the freedom to own guns, people might decide to spend disposable income on things like outerwear instead," said Joe Arterburn, a Cabela's spokesman.

This country won’t survive another four years of Communism.
True.
I know plenty of people who will buy more guns and ammo if Zippy wins. Very sensible.
You don’t need to stock up on bread and milk when there is no emergency. You can get them whenever needed. But if you think the supply will be cut off, you need to stock up ASAP.
If Romney wins the United States MIGHT survive.
I’m laying here with a torn ligament, hoping I can take my guns and outerware elk hunting come November. If they have to throw me in a wheelchair, and haul me in the back of the truck, I’m going.
I don’t think Obama has been the only reason for strong gun sales. There are a lot of other things going on, not the least of which is a general felling of uncertainty.
If 0baMao loses, there'll likely be rioting - at least in the short-term
.
Not everyone will be poor if O is re-elected.
The gun, booze and drug industries will be booming...
I recently sold some non-performing technolgy stocks and moved the money into gun, ammo, and oil stocks.
Of course this is all hypothetical since I own no guns.
i bought several SKS's over the last few years for barter and to give a couple away when the time comes... one to an elderly couple/next door neighbors, one for my EX, and the rest for trade/barter
I would also advise people to learn to reload for an emergency. Loading your own ammunition will prove to be one of the most valuable skills in a SHTF scenario. I took up reloading this year and just passed my 4000th round.
Also bought a furnace to cast my own bullets should the need ever arise.
Given the state of adrenalin overload the American public has been subjected to over the past decade, the overall sales of personal sidearms, from small pistols (and corollary self-protections items like stun guns or pepper spray), to rifles and shotguns suited to home defense, might not be much affected at all. The elevation of Barack Hussein Obama to national office did provide some additional boost, but the growing lawlessness, and the critical limitations placed on police in exercising their authority, has contributed greatly to the search for personal body defense.
Once the possession of personal sidearms and concealed carry reaches a critical level, personal assaults and home invasions become very rare occurrences.
Particularly if the “stand your ground” or “castle doctrine” defense is recognized and applied in court.
I wouldn’t even demand registration with any government body. But I would demand universal training in the use, care, safety and proficiency concerning such handguns, and absolutely before taking possession of a weapon of any kind.
The Swiss have the right idea concerning possession of sidearms. No army would EVER invade Switzerland.
Obama had a rectum transplant and the rectum rejected him.

When considering reloading, I look at which items are most critical and which I can make myself if necessary. Casting bullets is fairly easy. You can scrounge discarded brass casings. I think primers would be the most difficult “do it yourself” item. You could substitute black powder for smokeless powder in an emergency.
I think a persons primary priority should be primers followed by smokeless powder.
Congrats!
Make sure you get your bullet molds NOW. Elec furnace is nice and convenient but you can melt wheel weights and lead on an open fire. Finding the bullet molds you need when the SHTF problematic. Oh, and snag the wheel weights when you can. Check reload forums for various alloy qualities and lubes.
“This country wont survive another four years of Communism.”
Au contraire, wastedyears. That opens the table to a discussion about what to do with a few thousand of these upper echelon commie bastards infesting the United States.
We know a few facts about them:
* They’re cowards.
* They can’t fight for crap.
* They’re desperately trying to recruit 30-IQ Muslim goat-humpers as a surrogate army because they don’t have the guts to face us.
* The FBI has declared war against the Marine Corps and the CIA political brass did the same against the Navy Seals.
Best wishes to you and yours.
DITTO. Feds printing to 40 billion per month. If unemployment does not drop we may end up like Japan, sluggish and low employment. Japan began her lost decade with a gov surplus, trade surplus and high savings rate. US began hers with gov deficit, trade deficit, and high consumer debt. Good news if Romney wins is gun prices will drop because gun makers over produced. If demand drops, prices will drop drastically due to over capacity. Will be a good time to pick up more guns. I am a prepper who intends to have a cache (sizable number of the same type of weapons) to organize my street.
When Obama gets his BIG WISH and declares marshal law, he will supend the Constitution and declare that ALL private guns must be turned in to his police force that will over run the country and do as they want without ANY controls. Your rights, liberty and property will BELONG to the dictator in charge.
I am buying primers.....but I also have contingency plans. There is a Kindle edition of “Improvised Munitions” which ahows how to make your own primers. After the katrina confiscation, it is a must have book.
An illegal alien in Polk County, Florida who got pulled over in a routine traffic stop ended up “executing” the deputy who stopped him. The deputy was shot eight times, including once behind his right ear at close range. Another deputy was wounded and a police dog killed. A state-wide manhunt ensued.
The murderer was found hiding in a wooded area. As soon as he took a shot at the SWAT team officers opened fire on him. They hit the guy 68 times.
Naturally, the liberal media went nuts and asked why they had to shoot the poor, undocumented immigrant 68 times.
Sheriff Grady Judd told the Orlando Sentinel “Because that’s all the ammunition we had.”
The Coroner also reported that the illegal alien died of natural causes. When asked by a reporter how that could be, since there were 68 bullet wounds in his body, he simply replied: “When you are shot 68 times you are naturally gonna die.”
After the last ammo shortage I started reloading. And boy am I glad. Today I reload brass (various rifle, pistol, and revolver) and I’m setup to load shotshells, too. I’ve never cast my own bullets though. I just bought a basic casting setup and I’ve got about 200lbs of wheel weights, but I’ve yet to get molds.
how will you power your furnace?
Make your own molds using a 2x4 and drill bits. Mark your bits so they go no further into the wood than the lebgth of bullet you want and pour your melted lead right into the holes. I mold my own 20 gage slugs ... I reload 12 and 20 gage with a Lee Loadall.
We have a standby generator which powers the whole house......and a portable backup to that!
And you certainly wouldn’t want a Tok now would you! ... Great ballistics that
What model/make did you get?
Get a few extra of the small metal “clips” that secure the grip to the frame.... They seem to break if ya remove the grips to clean..... Just saying if I were gonna buy one fer myself etc...
Hk now sells their 416 and 417 civy flavored piston guns. Expensive but are neat to have when your up to your ass in brass. If I had one....
Stay safe...BLOAT !
Food for thought: in an extended SHTF scenario, the grid will go down. We don’t know how soon but it will. When the grid goes down, the sound of your generator, and those of others will be homing signals for those who haven’t prepared but now need/want something from someone who has. Later on the zombies will descend on audible sounds of survivors — i.e., your generator, which can be heard for ‘miles’ when there is no other human sound being generated.
think about OPSEC in terms of all the senses.
Just sayin’
A Generac Centurion. 7000 watts powers all the necessities in our small house.....nearly everything except central a/c and the range. Only about $1800 for the generator itself. We were w/o power for 5 days last October and we vowed never again. Of all the people I have spoken to who had gennies, not one regretted it.....and neither do I. Total instal coat was around $4800.
Anyone who tries touching that during a SHTF situation will be shot as that is our lifeline.
See if Santa will bring you a Corbin swage. Use old .22 rimfire brass to make jacketed bullets. I use one for making my own .224 jacketed bullets.

“BLOAT” ??
seeking knowledge ...
An interesting theory. However, I believe that the American public will no longer trust either party in power and they have learned the old Girl Scout motto—”Be prepared” and will continue to prepare.
whatever, you still got the meaning.
Really? A government mandate? And what then when they declare that you "failed"?
I get that.
First the fairly civilised people seeking charity will be at your door. “You seem prepared, can’t you help us? Our 4 year old twins are starving and haven’t had food for two days. Can’t you spare anything?” and 10 more families like that. and 20 more. you get the idea.
Next come those who aren’t as benevolent, will scout you out and threaten you, but can be scared off to threaten a softer target..
Next come those who come in larger modestly organised squads. And frankly they will kill you as soon as look at you. They want what you have, and the sound of your generator was the honey.
I am just saying that *IF* you can properly organize and defend your neighborhood, then your generator is your friend. Just be realistic about how fast and how far civilisation will dissolve. Nine days. You have nine days.
Non paratis est inermus.
Buy Lots Of Ammo Today....
Stay safe !
Firearms sales will continue decreasingly high regardless of politics—decreasingly, because the market is getting saturated.
But at some point in time—maybe a couple years out, if not before—we’ll see a deflationary trend and slowdown (bond collapse, drastic, spreading interest rate hikes, big slowdowns and layoffs in business and government). On top of that, when it’s realized that the growing “zombie hordes” (falling middle class government income/pension recipients, NGOs, all) can’t afford fuel, hostilities or much of anything else, many unemployed will be selling firearms and ammunition dirt cheap (austerity: enormous layoffs of government employees, pension haircuts following bond investor haircuts, etc.).
FWIW, Kevlar vests are on my list of SHTF items.
I had to consider weight and space. Logistics.
We have a bug out plan, as opposed to defend in place.
Only so much will fit. Can’t be all ammo ;-)
We have plenty to mount a typical home defense, one or two idiots; and we have enough to be sufficiently armed on the way out. We simply can’t move enough to be armed like some of the characters in the survivalist books. Other items HAVE to go with us.
Compromises. Even the Mechanized Army makes them.
Is that the pistol Travis McGee’s been recommending for the last few years?
If you can handle the noise, the recoil and the muzzle flash, it’ll pack a h3ll of a punch firing those FMJ rounds.
Geesh man, just use a r.45 ;-)

.45’s what I got.
Love my Sig P220
Thanks for the tip. I definitely need to study that.
I’ve heard of people doing that. Is it necessary to coat the wood with anything?
