You say “pessimism” I say realism. Here’s the one thing I read that I haven’t seen posted here on FR:

We have posted here, again before anyone else, that we’re not sure whose side Zero is on.
The point is that we’re running out of allies, of nations that trust us to do the right thing. America is close to being alone. That’s not a tendency on our parts to stress the negative or unfavorable or to take the gloomiest possible view. It’s a fact and as the man said, facts are stubborn things.
In 2012, Eurabia, Israel and all of the others facing determined, murderous muslim religious fanatics, they all look at us—at the things we do and fail to do—and they wonder whose side we’re on.
If we do not get our economy healthy again, in a very short period of time, we will be a dying nation!!

Plato nailed it almost 2000 years before Jefferson. I reccommend everyone read Plato’s Republic. The book provides a lot of thoughtful insights into the “lives” of governments.
Nor do I, unless, DumBO gets a second term. But, what is needing to be said is that we are going to have to take the same ground again.
Agreed. It seems it takes absolute incompetence and near utter despair to shock the moral masses of this country. Let’s hope they still can be shocked into action.
Discouraging but typically well-written and insightful article by Steyn - and includes one little gem that we should all adopt in the future: he refers to the slime in the MSM as the “court eunuchs”.
I’ll be using that one in the future.
