I knew Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan was a friend of mine. And Mitt Romney is reminding me an awful lot of Ronald Reagan.
The comments for which Romney is being so relentlessly and viciously scorned by Barack Obama and his merry band of media puppets sounds to me exactly like comments Ronald Reagan would have made.
It is indeed "disgraceful" for the US government to respond to the threat of an attack against an American embassy by issuing a statement condemning "the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims" and denouncing hurting their feelings as an "abuse" of free speech - and then as the embassy was being overrun and our flag burned issuing another statement saying they stand by that.
"It's disgraceful that the Obama Administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks."
Mitt Romney was simply but forcefully expressing, as Ronald Reagan so often did, what most Americans think and how they feel. And you can bet the Obama campaign realized this and found it frightening.
They said that they were "shocked" that Romney "would choose to launch a political attack" -- the usual and expected sort of political statement gibberish -- but isn't it revealing what they did? The Obama White House asked its media allies to report that the statement that Romney took such exception to "doesn't reflect the views of the U.S. government."
What? Isn't a U.S. Embassy an important part of the U.S. government, and all the more so when that embassy happens to be located in a country of great consequence to U.S. national interests? Isn't the U.S. Ambassador who leads that embassy - as anyone who is or ever has been one loves to

Turns my stomach that Romney is compared to Reagan.
Romney changes to the audience, Reagan did not do that.
Reagan’s message was clear, everyone knew what it was, like it or not.
Romney’s messages are not always clear or consistent.
Romney has made some great foreign policy statements, but it is Ryan who is on fire and presidential.
A role model that not only would benefit him but us as well.

More and more military veterans I talk with are not actually saying they will vote for Obama again but they do say that Romney is someone they cannot vote for. It does not look good for conservatives. I believe like many other conservatives that Romney’s campaign advisers are steering him to a big loss in November.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - For months, Republican Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign has been built on broad themes: cut taxes, repeal and replace Democratic President Barack Obama’s healthcare overhaul, increase defense spending.
But when it comes to specifics - namely, how to pay for the tax cuts and extra spending, and what exactly a Romney healthcare plan would look like - Romney has been reluctant to give details, essentially gambling that Americans’ frustration with high unemployment rates and a struggling economy will be enough to propel him to the White House.
Now, with polls showing that Obama has taken a slight lead in the race after the Republican and Democratic national conventions, increasingly anxious conservatives are calling on Romney to spell out more of his plans - even if it risks alienating some undecided voters.
The calls for a change in strategy have become particularly loud since Sunday, when Romney struggled during an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” program to explain what income tax loopholes he might close to help offset the cost of his tax cuts, or whether he would keep portions of Obama’s healthcare overhaul, including a requirement of insurance coverage for those with pre-existing medical conditions.
“Mr. Romney’s pre-existing political calculation seems to be that he can win the election without having to explain the economic moment or even his own policies,” said an editorial published Tuesday in the Wall Street Journal, which often is a barometer of the thinking of leading conservatives.
“Such vagueness carries its own political risks,” the Journal editorial said.
It isn’t the first time that conservatives in his party have raised doubts about Romney’s campaign strategy, but with the November 6 election less than two months away, the calls for the former Massachusetts governor to be bolder and more explicit have become increasingly urgent....

I also defend and praise Romney for his statement,but one bold statement does not make him a Regan. What bold and brave statement did he make about free speech during the Chic Fil A controversy, “Not part of my campaign.” They both play rolls but Regan did it in movies and on TV. Romney does his depending on what office he is running for, what the audience wants to hear and what will get him elected. I may have to hold my nose to vote for him but don’t expect me to close my eyes also.
My mistake as to timeline, not the hairstyle morphing. He wore Carter/JFK hair running for Senate in 1994, then increasingly imitates Reagan’s as the years go by.

Don’t get me wrong. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and Romney could not do better than Reagan. I just hope that imitation extends to policy as well as presentation.

I am almost sold, but not quite.
The choice seems to be between a Soviet ruble and a counterfeit dollar. Many are making the cogent argument that the dollar might not be valueless but the ruble certainly is.
Hard to commit to a contract on an etch-a-sketch.

Romney will not change the direction this Country is headed. At best he may slow it down a little. 4 years of Obama or 8 years of Romney which gives us the best chance of any real change. I understand those who are going to hold their nose and vote Romney. I also understand those who refuse to continue voting for candidates which are more and more liberal. Conservatives will lose no matter how the election goes. Liberals are again in a win win situation.

That puzzles me. Puzzles me to slack jawed amazement actually. I find most of the ‘reasons for Romney’ to be vapid or false, but between Obama and Romney as CinC? at an absolute minimum, it is not in Romney to waste an asset. This meltdown and overrun at the State Department signals how inept Obama is. Would a real challenge by a real adversary even be met, never mind successful?
