Rick Santorum: smart people got no reason to vote conservative
guardian.co.uk ^ | September 15, 2012 | Paul Harris and Matt Williams

"Smart people" in America will never back conservative Republicans, or so says Rick Santorum – a conservative Republican whose verbal missteps are becoming as well-known as his hardline posturing on social issues.

Santorum, who ended up being Mitt Romney's closest rival for the 2012 Republican nomination, made the comment at the conservative Value Voters Summit in Washington.

"We will never have the media on our side, ever, in this country. We will never have the elite, smart people on our side," Santorum said in a speech to the gathering of conservative activists at a Washington hotel.

Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, entered the Republican primary race as a little-known outsider.

But he ran a dogged and hardworking campaign based on his appeal to social conservatives and eventually emerged as a serious threat to the more establishment Romney.

Though Romney eventually triumphed, Santorum's success ensured the nomination process was longer than many had expected and he emerged with a much higher profile.

But Santorum also made several notable gaffes along the way. At one campaign stop where he talked about welfare, he appeared to say that he didn't "want to make black people lives better by giving them somebody else's money". He later claimed he had simply garbled his words, and didn't say "black" people, just something that sounded like "black".

Typical media thinking people are too stupid to recognize sarcasm or ultimate truths.

They can drop it now, he’s not running.

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/03/25/Santorum-Pronounces-Zimmerman-Guilty-Before-Charge

...Admitting that he was “not privy to what’s going on in someone’s mind,” Santorum nevertheless said that Zimmerman, who shot and killed teenager Trayvon Martin while participating in a neighborhood watch last month, “has a very sick mind who would pursue someone like this.” He added that Zimmerman’s motive had been “malicious.”

The mental state of the alleged perpetrator, the motive, and the question of whether he pursued the alleged victim, are both critical in determining guilt. Santorum’s conclusions are consistent with first-degree murder under Florida law...

Santorum should have said "the self-anointed 'smart people'" but we know what he meant and attempts to spin this sarcastic comment by a man not running for office will go nowhwhere.

This could be read as Santorum “taking a jab” at the supposed self-appointed intellectual superiors on the left. The libtards, in plain english.

With the way things are going for the “Establishment” candidate, I’d take my chances with Santorum anyday.

Rick was winning Wisconsin until R and R gave out free subs at the local sandwich shop to undercut his lead. It was a dishonest, underhanded and deceitful move.

Hey media... Rick just kicked you in the scrotum and you are too stupid to realize it. You all are smart like obama is... or even joe biden. Bunch of traitorous dumbasses.

Santorum is very undisciplined - he’s chronically unable to think before he speaks. If Romney loses, and Santorum runs again, I sure hope he can get it together before 2016.

He was putting quotes around the "smart people" comment.

He was actually calling them idiots in a way that would not offend them because they are not smart enough to recognize sarcasm

Not only was Santorum and other verdict jumpers not privy to what was going on in George Zimmerman’s mind, but most importantly Santorum didn’t have the facts to jump to this conclusion. Savage did the same thing at first, but then he later corrected himself when the facts started coming out. You know that the Media has backed way off now — Of course, once the trial gets going, they’ll just jump back on the cannon fodder wagon any how - Truth be damned.

They may very well be "playground journalists", however they are the watchers and bosses of the playground players and their word appears to be law, to my own distress.

I am so sickened by this whole process and fear so deeply for my country at the power these "playground journalists" wield that my constant prayer is for the ignorant "players" to see that these "playground journalists" are caricatures of real power and influence; are masters of deception; sleight of hand and mouth ... and are in the main -- leading the ignorant and the wilfully ignorant ... down the garden path!

Maybe he used “air quotes”?

We know what he meant. Sounds like Paul Harris and Matt Williams are two of the “smart people” Santorum was referring to. wink, wink

The only thing Rick Santorum did was screw us out of a real candidate.

I suspect he is being sarcastic.

But since the MSM mistakenly believe themselves to be smart, they simply assumed he must have seriously meant what he said.

Maybe he used “air quotes”?

Politicians (at least Conservative politicians) need to choose their words carefully. Anything they say can and will be used against them.

Well, the left is taking full advantage. I get posts on FB from ThinkProgress (just to annoy them with my responses) and they are in agreement that smart people will never vote for conservatives. They’re idiots.
