GOP to Romney: Why Aren't You Winning?
newsmax.com ^

Posted on 09/16/2012 1:34:46 AM PDT by tsowellfan

Republican activists are incredulous: Why can't Republican Mitt Romney seem to break open a tight race with President Barack Obama given the nation's sluggish economy and conservative enthusiasm to beat the Democrat?

"He ought to be killing Obama, and he's clearly not doing that," said 32-year-old R.J. Robinson, one of the thousands of activists attending the annual Values Voters Summit this weekend. "He should be doing better."

Added Mike Garner, a 27-year-old hawking "Reagan was right" buttons at the meeting: "If Romney loses this election, the party really needs to do some soul-searching."

Their sentiments were echoed in interviews with more than a dozen GOP activists and social conservative leaders who attended the annual gathering focused on social and cultural issues and sponsored by the Family Research Council.

The summit was filled with rhetoric meant to fire up the party's base voters. Romney needs them to turn out in force at the polls in November and, between now and then, to convince others to do the same through extensive get-out-the-vote grassroots canvassing in swing-voting states...

"If Romney loses this election, the party really needs to do some soul-searching."

LOL!

If we lose this election, America as we know it is done, fin, finito.

Romney's "losing" because the MSM is making it look like he's losing. They're doing everything they can to make the polls allude to a tight race without breaching into "outright fraud" territory. We see the number of polled Dems is growing, yet no one calls them out on it.

Mmmm baby! The poll numbers floating around right now are sweet sweet pillow talk to the left. To bad for them they are all lies.

See, we had to over-sample Dems in our poll because D comes before R, Donald was a duck, and convention bumps from Carter speeches kick in 30 days after - like acid flashbacks. Is it all clear to you now?

Obama has the real poll numbers; and he’s running scared. - You don’t surely doubt why there’s a “crisis” a day, do you? - Batten down the hatches! MSM has to paint him a winner; he may be a fraud, but he’s their fraud. They think EVERYBODY is gonna vote for a perceived winner. - Why, all this murder and mayhem in the Middle East may even force the cancellation of the debates.

I totally agree Obama has to perform one heck of a illusionist's trick to make himself look like an effective leader. I just don't see how having all our middle east embassies being ablaze is going to make him look good. Didn't he just tell us about his like totally awesome peacekeeping skills, yo! Americans getting killed overseas is never popular with voters. Plus he's got striking teacher's unions screaming for more... everything. D'Souza's 2016 is huge! His war chest is drying up while Ryan is pulling in crowds and cash everywhere he goes. And don't forget, you didn't build that. And our biggest security threat is obesity. OMG! Watch out for fat people!

I say we run him out of town in disgrace. We teach our children he was the worst president America ever had. And we let Romney know, we will be watching him like eagle-eyed mama bear near her cubs.

OMG who wrote this crap? I was screaming at the computer screen when I read this.

Freepers, there is a conspiracy out there! The lame-stream media is conducting polls using 2008 percentages for party-breakdown. This means that Dims are being over-sampled. This is why Zero is shown to be ahead WHEN HE IS NOT. And the lame-stream gets exposed every time they do this. So why do they keep doing it? Because if you tell a lie enough times, then people believe it. You are starting to now see Dim comments of “ALL these polls can’t be wrong. You wacko republicans just can’t deal with reality.”

Well, I don’t care if there are 20 or 2000 polls that show Zero ahead. If they have been weighted to party preference at 2008 levels then they are WRONG.

AND THIS STUPID ARTICLE WAS WRITTEN ACCEPTING THE PREMISE THAT THE POLLS ARE CORRECT!!!!

So if this is not a conspiracy, where is the proof that these polls are wrong? REMEMBER THE WISCONSIN RECALL? At 5pm on election day all media outlets were reporting that exit polling predicted it was TOO CLOSE TO CALL. The polling was done with the SAME over-sampling of Dims that the polls that show Zero ahead use. Anyone remember the result? Walker won 53-47.

Articles like the one above make me want to tear my hair out!

Freepers, we have to get the word out that any poll using 2008 party weighting is WRONG. Already, because there are so many being put out, people on our side are starting to believe them and get dispirited. This is what the lame-streams want!

We're not winning because we don't have Newt as our nominee. A NE liberal Republican isn't what the people want. If you aren't a political junkie like most of us are, you think it doesn't make a difference who is running. Newt could carve up Obama and make him look like the amateur he is. Romney looks like a deer in the headlights. Just look at how the media handled Romney on his Libya comment and just picture Newt gutting and skinning them.

With Romney, we ahve a flip flopper that designed ObamaCare and has been on just about any side of most issues. I'm sure he's better than Obama, but most can't tell the difference so why change.

Youtube has a couple clips from the days when blue was used for the GOP and red for the Dems. 1980, NBC: It’s 8:15 pm on election night and John Chancellor and Tom Brokaw are declaring Reagan the winner. Already he had reached 270 votes in their projections. By the end of the night, it was something like Reagan 489, Carter 49. (This after circumstances like right now with wimpy foreign policy,
high gas prices or low availability, “country in wrong direction”).

Another clip from 84 shows a sea of blue, a GOP swimming pool. Mondale got 13 electoral votes—Minn. (he won barely) and D.C. That was it, worst Dem drubbing in history.

Chancellor remarks in first clip that in 76 they were up till about 3:30 am before they could declare Carter the winner. But ‘80? It was clear early Reagan had bet Jimmah, and big.

I don’t know if it’ll be a landslide. It could be close. Obama with the MSM on his side could win, but this could be a “surprising” win for Romney (especially given the slanted polls...plus those of us who WORK or don’t have landline phones aren’t counted, or we hang up on them, or they don’t bother calling us).

There may be long faces at MSNBC, etc,. on election night.

I still remember a couple days after the 04 election. I tuned into Air America for laughs. Al Franken and other moonbats were on and they sounded like they hadn’t slept all week. Gloomy, depressed, frustrated (and wondering how the GOP “stole” the election and how they could fight it).
Classic.

If Romney loses couldn’t it be because this country; that is, its people, have changed beyond the powers to persuade them, staying within the principles of the Republican Party and conservatism? I know, Romney is a RINO, but is he not portrayed by the Left (Dems and Media) as a callous, uncaring, out-of-touch conservative, as is Ryan? On other side, if the Obamanation is re-elected, will it not be promises of cradle-to-grave goodies and empty rhetoric that have carried the day?

Why isn`t Romney winning?

Three things come to mind:

1. A very powerful and persuasive pro-0bama “media.”
2. 100 million + people on the government dole, and wanting yet more.
3. A country, half of which still swoons at the sight and sound of 0bama.

Something is up with Newsmax. Their consistent mantra of late is Romney is losing and isn't doing enough to propel his campaign and yet they TOTALLY ignore these D+ over-sampled polls and the fact that no matter what Romney says or does, the LMSM cherry picks what they cover (negative, at least in their meme) and otherwise ignore R and R. And I extend that BS-motivation to the posters that keep linking to them.

I agree. Romney can say he likes certain parts but he has to frame that by stating that only the good (minimum) and bad (majority) can be corrected by total repeal to eliminate the framework that Obamacare has weaved and a market-based framework erected in it's stead.

As to, "Obama is a nice guy": this is the same BS a politician has to say in the vein of "Islam is a religion of peace."

Hate to break it to you, bub, but the GOP-E has backstabbed, snubbed, and undermined Conservatives so much to clear the way for Romney that there is no enthusiasm for him within the base, even with Ryan on the ticket.

It's bubbling up to the surface now, and the grand-poobahs of the party are now scratching their hands wondering why we won't get on board with Team Romney.

Shooting messengers and cooking up conspiracy theories won't change that truth, and no amount of wishful thinking is going to make Conservatives turn out in droves for Romney.

I get the idea that 2008 turnout levels have changed because Obama is less popular and the republicans won in 2010.

But, I’ve seen articles here claiming that use of 2008 levels for black turnout is wrong. I know all the arguments, I’m not convinced black support for Obama will decrease, I think black turnout may increase.

Precisely. Team Romney's strategy all along was to knock out any potential TEA Party competitors (like Palin and Cain), get just enough Conservative votes to get through the primaries, and then turn left for the general election, aiming at "moderates," "independents," "fence-sitters," and disaffected democRats, based on the assumption that Conservative "purists" would ultimately get their arses in line and back Romney.

Now they're looking around and finding that the plantation is deserted, and so they're getting worried.

This is how I see things as well. I was at a grandchild's sporting event yesterday in Baltimore. People were travelling from a 2 to 3 hour vicinity which should give us a decent cross section of red and blue cars. It did. There was a lot of time before my granddaughter went on so I took a walk through the several hundred car (or more car) fully packed parking lot. 2 Obama bumper stickers (and one of those was from the last election), 0 Romney stickers, 3 Sarah Palin stickers, and a pretty decent mix of assorted liberal and conservative stickers.

Because the sporting event was Irish dancing, you can be sure there was an oversampling of both conservative Catholic and Union Dem voters. The good news is that the union guys aren't very fired up. The fact that there was not a single Romney sticker on the cars (including my own) speaks volumes about the disgust the Republican base feels this time around. The Republican establishment apparently has to win this one on their own.

I think black turnout will decrease. There simply is not the intensity of historical precedent driving the average black to go vote. There will be many who will find an excuse to not vote while publicly saying I would have voted for him.

There are rational black people who will see the light and vote for Romney this time.

The actual breakdown will be hidden by the press and may even be lied about to save face.
