Zogby: Romney Running Worse Than McCain in 08 Thursday, 13 Sep 2012 06:05 PM
President Barack Obama received a surprisingly strong bounce after the Democratic National Convention, and now leads GOP challenger Mitt Romney by nearly 6 points according to a new JZ Analytics poll.
The national poll of likely voters shows Obama leading 47.7 percent to 42 percent, and indicates that Romney is not polling well enough among some conservative demographic groups: NASCAR fans, evangelicals, and the so-called Walmart voters.
According to JZ Analytics pollster John Zogby, Romney is in a somewhat worse position than GOP nominee Sen. John McCain was at this point in the 2008 campaign...
In a possible indication that Romney has yet to seal the deal with the GOP base, Zogby reports lackluster poll numbers among NASCAR voters, evangelicals, and frequent Walmart patrons -- groups that tend to be reliably conservative.
Romney leads Obama 48.4 to 44.6 percent among voters who shop weekly at Walmart. He [Romney] narrowly trails Obama among self-identified NASCAR fans, 44 percent to 43 percent.
Thats a number you would never expect to see, comments Zogby.
Among born again voters, Romney leads Obama by 57 percent to 32 percent. That compares to the 73 percent of evangelical/born again voters McCain carried in 2008, according to the Pew Center on Religion and Public Life...
Zogby also describes Obamas numbers as anemic among 18 to 29 year-olds. Only 53 percent of those younger voters said they would vote for Obama over Romney -- some 13 points less than Obamas advantage among that demographic in 2008 against GOP standard bearer Sen. John McCain...

Yet Romney is doing much worse than McCain among evangelicals, and is even behind Obama with NASCAR fans!
If this is true, and Zogby has always been a fair pollster, it seems to mean that a lot of conseratives still have doubts about Romney.
So says the maker of Zog’s Special Sauce who tried to cook the books and depress voter turnout for Bush.
Zogby is a moron, a leftist and the worst pollster of the last few cycles. Other than that a great Arab-American.
He [Romney] narrowly trails Obama among self-identified NASCAR fans, 44 percent to 43 percent.
I can not believe this poll after reading that.
He’s running in the wrong direction.
He always has run in the wrong direction.
My feeling on Romney is that he has been playing it too safe, and running badly (with minimal boost from Ryan) and now we have a big foreign affairs crisis.
I see things going Obama's way. Again.
No he not. The notion that Obama is doing better in 2012 then he was in 2008 is disprove in EVERY poll. This is pure Obot spin from Obama.
All of this psy op crap can go straight to hell.
If we lose this election, this Country is over.
Vote!

I’m beginning to believe that NewsMax got the memo from the lib organizations in DC.
I’m beginning to believe that NewsMax got the memo from the lib organizations in DC.
It’s obvious Obama got a solid convention bounce (which is fading) and is probably still leading by a couple points, but I wouldn’t believe much Zogby has to say. Zogby is the guy who announced Kerry the winner of the 2004 election on his website, only to have to retract it and issue an apology/explanation for how he could be so wrong. I do believe Romney is struggling with some evangelicals because he is a Mormon, but I don’t believe any pollster that claims he is losing NASCAR viewers to Obama. Also, Zogby has been reduced to doing a bunch of online interactive polling which is not accurate enough to be included in RCP polling averages.
Zogby is clown pollster who did not make the top 20 of accuracy in the poll review in 2008

And I should have added, WHY are you posting this crap?
Then you are not bothering to look
Wrong.
Back as far as the year 2000, it was yours truly, who coined the term Zogby's Special Sauce.
McCain was not poor, but I suspect that Romney being soooo rich and also his Bain work which doesn’t sound so good to a lot of working people may hurt. There are no doubt many evangelicals and working man/NASCAR fans who have heard the one about going through the eye of a needle. They may stay home on election day.
f this is true, and Zogby has always been a fair pollster...
Give us a break !
In polling terms, 13% undecided is a sizable number.
Yet Romney is doing much worse than McCain among “evangelicals”
Sadly, no matter what, many Evangelicals will not vote for a Mormon.
Considering that this quote is from the Washington Compost, but there is some substance to it:
“Many social conservatives warned during the GOP primary that Romney would struggle to spark evangelical enthusiasm. Fewer conservative Christians would volunteer to canvass neighborhoods, donate money or plan rallies, they said.
The Pew poll indicates such fears may be warranted. Among the nearly 23 percent of evangelicals who are uncomfortable with Romneys Mormonism, just 16 percent back him strongly.”

Zogby is the worst pollster out there bar none...he predicted a blowout victory for Kerry in ‘04 and if memory serves me, he had McCain in it till the end in ‘08....i look at this as good news considering zogby’s record...
I seem to recall reading here at FR that the polls had Carter leading Reagan until right up before the election. The pollsters are going to do their best to create the momentum for Hussein as long as they can until it gets so late that they have to start being accurate or they’ll completely lose their credibility.
A lot of FReepers have been asking where Zogby has been this year.....Well, HE’S BAAAAAACK!
Well we know that Hussein’s people threatened Gallup, I’m sure the other polling companies got the message.
Real Clear Politics doesn’t even include Zogby!
Thanks for this list
I am a Christian and I am voting for Romney and Ryan.
Would more Christians vote for a Muslim over a Mormon?
Zogby....noted arab sympathizer who long ago became a lap dog of the left....no longer of interest to any one who really follows quality pollsters
Muslim? No. Christian Arab? Yes. idiot? Yes. Muslim sympathizer? Yes.
Which independent auditing agency does Rush use that gives him a current rating of being right 99.6% of the time?
I believe he showed Bush carrying CA in 2000 and Gore carrying NC - and consistently had Gore’s base of strength in his national polls being the South.
The Washington Compost are liars-I frequent a forum of which the members are the most fundy of the fundies and every single one of them is voting for Romney. I’ll beleive the words from the horse’s own mouth over the Washington Compost’s wishful thinking.
Also, post-election surveys showed that during the McCain/Obama election, it wasn’t social conservatives/fundamentalists who stayed home and didn’t vote for McCain. The canard that social conservatives and fundamentalists won’t vote for anyone except another fundamentalist needs to be put to rest.
I am a Catholic woman and am voting for Romney and Ryan. In fact, if the polls showed Obozo ahead by a wide margin it would just make me more determined to get others out to vote for them too.
From guess who:
Zogby is an Arabic surname.
James Zogby (born 1945), American founder and president of the Arab American Institute and brother of John Zogby.
John Zogby (born 1948), American pollster, president & CEO of Zogby International and brother of James Zogby
And on election day, regardless of my reticence about Romney, my dedication to my country will forbid me from staying home or voting for the current Marxist Muslim in chief. I will vote to save my country, as best I can with the choices I have.
Zogby and the other pollsters apparently don't understand that we can say we don't like Romney on x issue, but we will still vote for him because we refuse to guarantee our own destruction with another 4 years of Obama.
The only poll that matters is on election day. May God Help us. Please!
If you believe that you need to be institutionalized.
If this is true, I also saw a poll that more blacks are supporting Romney lol
Maybe Obama has bowed to him too.......... ... .
NASCAR headquarters is in Charlotte; maybe the fans think they are “required” to vote for Obama, who was nominated in Charlotte. Most likely though, Romney is just not seen as a viable alternative, but I will shade in the Republican oval at the top of the ballot and not fret over weak and strong choices on the ballot. Still as of today, I would think Romney will win only the McPain electoral votes plus IN and NC.
“Zogby has always been a fair pollster,”
Seriously? He’s out to make a buck just like everyone else. The only way pollsters count is with their own votes. Pay no attention.
“Sadly, no matter what, many Evangelicals will not vote for a Mormon.’
So are you saying that evangelicals aren’t smart enough to see what is going on? I don’t believe that for a second. In fact, each and every evangelical I know is voting for Romney - all of them - and I know plenty.
LLS
The fact that Zogby believes that the Kenyan is now leading Romney among “NASCAR voters” is all I need to call BULL**** on his goofy “poll”.
The one and only time I recall that Zogby was ever right, was in the 1994 NY State Gubernatorial election. Zogby was the only one whose poll predicted a Pataki win over Cuomo. Pataki won. Since then, Zogby has been way off the mark in his polls.
I'm not buying that!
NASCAR fans can't stand Obama. Remember last fall when Barry's wife was booed at a stock car race.
Maybe true because a lot of people like me walked away from NASCAR when it became a tool for Obamugabe.
What was perplexing is that they were NOT SURE they wanted to vote for Romney. They said they might vote a 3rd party candidate or write-in someone
When I asked WHY/... their answer was that they weren't sure about Romney nor did they really know what he was all about.
They also stated that he was probably a good person but couldn't convince themselves that they could vote for him.
I'd call that the McCain syndrome revisited.
Keep in mind, as someone of FR said weeks ago... "we're running the candidate ( Romney ) that lost to the candidate ( McCain ) that lost the last election."
I feel that RYAN would actually be a better nominee for President than Romney. He is much more aggressive, which is what's really required under the circumstances.
Food for thought.
