Rahm to Sue Chicago Teachers The Chicago teachers union has decided to continue their strike, depriving students of teachers for another week, entrenching an increasingly public and bitter labor dispute.
Reports said that the unions delegates would meet on Tuesday, meaning that schools in the nations third largest school district would be unlikely to open before Wednesday.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has now threatened to sue to force the end of the strike and force the unions back into the classrooms to teach Chicago children.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel said he will file a court injunction to force an end to the Chicago teacher's strike which is heading into its second week.
By refusing to call off the strike, the union continues months of public sparring between union leaders and Mayor Rahm Emanuel, whose school reform agenda centered on lengthening what had been among one of the shortest public school days in the country.
This ugly strike looks to continue as the Chicago teachers refuse to accept strict evaluations and an increased workday. President Obama has refused to comment to support or condemn either side of the debate.
Rahm may be forced to embrace Wisconsin-style reforms to make this work. Which would be highly amusing.
If you live in the Chicago area and your kids attend Chicago public schools....they aren’t getting any kind of education. It’d be best to pack up and move at least 500 miles away.
The real burden is on the parents who use the school system for babysitting.
Yes, this strike brings home the point that Government workers should not have the right to do so.
I wonder how that leftwinger is liking his beloved unions now??
Yes indeed Oabam Admin people vs. the unions in a steel cage match. Get the popcorn.
Apparently liberals who run out of other people’s money to spend can get a tad testy.
The teachers are toast, Rahm has invoked the sacred “children” mantra. It’s just a matter of time now.
“Tiny Dancer vs Big Teach” has all the perfume of an Oldtime Carney production. Hope tis little thug fest continues for another month.
Funny how when the community agitators get into power and become RESPONSIBLE for maintaining the institutions they spent their time fighting, they become the very thing they used to fight.
This ugly strike looks to continue as the Chicago teachers refuse to accept strict evaluations.
Riots to ensue if they don’t get their way?.
Close, You are on the right track. Don’t fire, acknowledge that by walking out of the classroom the teachers quit. Then process the termination paperwork as they quit. People that quit a job do not qualify for unemployment insurance. I would also dismantle the pension plan and use what funds there are to pay off outstanding debts.
Don’t sue them. Take a page from Reagan’s book and FIRE them!
Aww... You beat me to it.
