Why didn’t the government ever go after the publisher of the American edition of The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie?

Oh, we still had a 1st amendment then. In spite of what the Left said about efforts to defund the NEA.

No scapegoat was necessary at the time.

Not only is scapegoating an American filmmaker, or any filmmaker, obscene, doing so at the expense of the 1st Amendment is especially egregious.

Notice the silence from Hollywood, ACLU, Congress, and the MSM regarding this attack on the 1st Amendment.
