Political reporters on Twitter are saying they are standing by for a Romney media availability on the video released today by Mother Jones of Romney at a May fundraiser speaking frankly of his thoughts on Obama's base voters and their entitlement mentality, aka the 47% who pay no federal income taxes.
The media and GOP-E have jumped ugly on Romney tonight.
Steve Holland, Reuters: Romney at press avail to respond to video says his comments weren't "elegantly stated," and "could have said it in a more effective way."
Why??????? He said nothing wrong. Who in the HELL is advising this guy?
He stood by his statements. Said it is the same thing he says in public
We are the 53%. How much longer do we have the carry the rest on our tired backs?
I posted earlier he should do this. Wonder what he will say.
Unless he can come up with something that can resonate, while sticking to his guns, he is done.
Sad night.
He better not apologize...oh, he just better NOT apologize!
to make a appearance or a statement. From the statement out there, it comes across as insulting. He needs every vote. Imo.
Press availability came and went. Reportedly three questions taken. No live coverage except on Twitter.
He had better not apologize.
When is the presumed embargo lifted?
Thank you for the update.
It has already made my local news here.
NO APOLOGIES. Double down on this line of truth. The 53% need to be reminded that they work and sacrifice and do all the right things to carry the ones who are lazy, stupid, and don’t do the right things.
This was the bravest thing said by a GOP Presidential candidate since 1984.
No matter what you feel about his comments on that video this situation is NOT good. Remove your bias and understand the MSM is out for the kill. There is too much fodder for the media such that they can eliminate his chances in a very close race. Swing states like FL will easily fall out of reach because of this video. It only takes a few percentage points to move away from him.
He said this in May. Why is it coming out now? I hate the DBM.
where are you and what are they saying?
He has to stick up for what he said because he is right. If he said something that was a “gaffe” obviously it would be a different matter, but he has to stick up for what he said because for ONCE this guy actually said the TRUTH. There is NO need to apologize for the truth. Romney cannot allow the media to dictate what he says, if he allows that to happen and allows the media to make his decisions for him than yes I agree he’s done
Make it or break it time. Had to happen.
This is a winner for Romney. Even retired seniors, who he needs, collecting social security were for the most part lifetime taxpayers who see themselves as makers, not takers. As for the takers he’s not getting any of their votes anyway. I see no downside to this.
I’m afraid that he will apologize but in a ‘slow burner’ way...he’ll backtrack piece by piece from his statement with every interview from here on out. I hope I’m wrong though
Stupid for the GOP to disagree with this. Romney is right. 53% of the population is being used as slave labor, and Oboma wants to take even more and give it to his dependent base. Romney is 100% correct, and more people should be talking about this. The social programs are out of control.
Let’s hope he’s just taking advantage of the free LSM coverage.
Nah this will help with the indys and the 3 votes he loses with this is ok
Malarkey. There are no polls, and never have been, where a majority of Americans favor welfare over work. Even in this screwed up America no poll has ever fulfilled that socialist goal.
Romney could sneeze and the media would call Romney racist. I have never seen in my life the media SO in the tank for a candidate..never in my life. No matter what Romney does or says he won’t win with the media so screw them. What Romney needs to do is what Reagan did, take his message to the American people..if people are going to be sheep and do what the media says than this country is too far gone to be saved anyway
Really? You see no downside to this?
i see downside yet potentially more upside...more independents who side with liberals on social issues but conservatives on financial matters and matters of gov’t spending could slide towards Romney....ditto for whatever Reagan democraps are left...
No you don’t hope your wrong, you find every opportunity to complain.
CNN to have presser in few minutes.
Which means no matter how you play the game they will try to destroy you......at that point the truth is all you have and Romney had damn well better stand by it and not snivel.
People on Social Security are not takers — they had money taken from them, without their consent all their working lives. The government is the taker.
What a horrible month for republicans. Then This weeks starts with act 10 in wisconsin getting tossed and now this.
OMG OMG OMGoshhhhhhh!!!
This is it...dont blow it Romney...Stand your ground!
Eyes are on you...time to kick it in gear.
NO RETREAT!
They were FORCED to pay into SS. They have every right to collect on it. They're the only ones who do!
If this is true, he must have info that this is hurting him;
to make a appearance or a statement. From the statement out there, it comes across as insulting. He needs every vote.
Yup. He told the truth but it will still badly hurt him. He just gave obama and his media lap dogs a warehouse full of ammunition. It does come across as insulting.
This is the defining moment for Romney. If he grovels and apologizes, and claims he was taken out of context, or if he doubles down and defends his remarks, either way, we’ll know exactly where he stands without any ambiguity.
Exactly. The media blocks a lot of his arguments and plans. He should go for the jugular while they are giving him airtime.
If they want class war, then maybe we should have it now, while we still have a slim majority over those who want to use government as a weapon against those of us who feel that we have a responsibility to make our own way in the world.
My fellow FReeper, I didn't worry what I said during my campaign because, in my heart, I knew I was right. The left and the media said I was a loser for stating the truth. Well....why don't you think about it. I won the election and I won with a pretty darn good mandate.
Greta Show on Fox now.
He’s on Greta now.
None. Welfare reform was popular for a reason. Romney is advertising the huge numbers of additional food stamp and welfare recipients under Obama. Where is the downside? A hefty majority of Americans see themselves as makers not takers. So tell me which demographic does Romney lose with?
We’re talking about 5% of people who amazingly haven’t made up their mind about Obama’s disaster of a presidency. These are very impressionable voters. The MSM will take enough of them with this material. The other 47% they already had locked up.
Regardless, Romney’s only choice is to double-down on his comments and become a full-fledged, clear talking conservative. I don’t think he has it in him.
Really though, if we don’t start talking about it, the country is going to collapss anyhow and all of this becomes a mute point, especially for the 47% who will nothing when it does fall.
He’s not backing down
Get lost! You believe that Romney and team can do no wrong which makes you a Romneybot, I’ve already stated earlier this evening that he needs to stick to his guns on this and not back down.
All Mitt needs to say is there’s nothing honorable or dignified about being dependent on the government and that his policies will create an environment where people can get off their reliance on other people.
ATTA BOY!!!
I’m watching it now...
He...
Doesn’t...
Seem to be apologizing...
yet
“Sorry, but unlike the Democrats, I don’t beleive in a lifetime, generation after generation, of government dependence.
