Skip to comments.Clint Eastwood Republicans Were 'Dumb' To Ask Me to Speak at RNC
Posted on 09/18/2012 1:55:34 PM PDT by RummyChick
Clint Eastwood finally admitted what everyone already knew ... the GOP made a HUGE MISTAKE by hiring him to speak at the Republican National Convention -- calling Mitt Romney's people "dumb" to ask him in the first place.
Clint opened up in a recent interview with Extra's Jerry Penacoli, claiming, "If somebodys dumb enough to ask me to go to a political convention and say something, theyre gonna have to take what they get.
It's a pretty crazy statement ... considering Clint had previously rebuffed critics of his infamous "Invisible Obama" speech by refusing to admit the entire thing was a train wreck.
Clint insisted he was just expressing his feelings -- but now, it's pretty clear he's starting to realize the truth ... it just wasn't a good idea.
When asked if he'd do it all over again -- the 82-year-old replied, "I never look backward. Its done and its done. I probably would. I wouldnt be afraid of it."

Sounds like this was taken out of context.
Of course it was taken out of context. It’s TMZ.
I think he’s just prodding them to get more knee-jerk reactions.
Just when it was beginning to fade, they’ve brought it to life again.
As he hints at the end, he’s so “dumb,” he’d probably do it again next time he’s asked!
I think his speech was great.
But what else would we expect.
Yes, TMZ, this is clearly Clint admitting his speech was a train wreck. He meant this statement to be taken literally. /s
That’s a figure of speech. When I was packing my stuff up after getting laid off due to funding issues I told the boss “if you’re dumb enough to hire me again I’m dumb enough to work for you again”. We’re still friends 10 years later, though he’s never spawned another company so we haven’t tested our stupidity.
Naw....He just said that his monologue was not profound....And he made his point....Obama is doing a crap job....
the author is deceptive at best.
Eastwood is simply being modest.
and, he says he WOULD probably do it again.
and even if it was stupid...
it clearly was beneficial to Romney.
even BEFORE the graphics appeared of the “empty chair”,
after it came out that Obama missed ALL his security briefings, in the week prior to 9-11.
Einstein couldn’t have designed a better image after that!
We the masses loved it, but closed club RINOS didn't.
Way to go, Clint!
Would like to hear what Sarah Palin thought of it.
Yep, and they added their own. Reader, beware.
COMPLETELY out of context. Clint was just being self-deprecating about his speaking abilities, not saying he made a mistake. Geez.
Thanks to Clint, my entire cul de sac had an empty chair in the front yard on Sep 3. 10 houses.
And we got more than we could have expected!
Tending to undervalue oneself and one’s abilities.
This is a personal trait resembling modesty and completely alien to the Obama mindset.
Barry is Maestro of everything he has ever attempted in his life.
And if you don’t believe that, just ask him. Or any Democrat.
Spin.Spin. . and more Spin . . . Clint’s FANTASTIC talk smarted the thin-skinned Obama’s butt crack.
What the idiot who wrote this article meant is that everybody in his or her liberal bubble thought it was a train wreck. Probably the only Republicans who thought it was a diaster are the east coast, hoity toity Pubbies who look down their noses at the riff raff i.e. all the awful Tea Party types.
Oh, and TMZ is a sleazy pile of sludge.
I call BS on this one. It’s TMZ is the primary reason, and after having had to watch it as captive audience at the Dental office I know TMZ isn’t worth the three initials, and what the “H” does Three Mile Zone mean anyway.
If this is true why did Eastwood yuk it up with Romney after the presentation that night?
Glad you were there, Clint!
TMZ’s text doesn’t match at all the video they are showing.
Eastwood is fine in the interview.
Clint is still over the target.
Indeed, it sounds like a semi-sarcastic response to a question like “Do you think the RNC regrets...” and I love it! I am certain the RINOs flinched :) Go, Clint, go!
it is a show that morons watch, because the people who watch that (and ET, HollyWood reporter, etc) are Obama supporters!!
Eastwood got hit with Hollywood and media bias - probably felt like a train hit him... I thought he was great ...
The headline is a little misleading.
He is correct and everyone is missing the point. He was asked by the GOPe because they thought it would attract hard core conservatives like me.
As usual, epic GOPe FAIL! They toss us a bone and later stab us in the back!
Same as putting a candidate in a NASCAR event with the belief that would court a conservative vote. If Obama rides an entire race with Jeff Gordon....yeah mrs p6 is a fan....I am still voting against him!
I, and I hope most conservatives, vote on POLICY, not POSING!
Did you see Paul Ryan’s face during the whole thing?
They wouldn’t have let him speak If he had told them what he was doing to do
YES! Totally agree!
I don't think they "hired" him. This smells.
Did you mean “Classy!” such as classy like Michelle? or did you mean “Classy!” such as classy like Lazamataz “hitting” this and that statements on FR? or did you mean “Classy!” such as President Reagan giving great pep talks? - Just wondering as a Twinkie is wont to do from time to time.
TMZ spells leftie scum.
It was obviously a sarcastic, self-deprecating remark on Eastwood’s part. That’s the only direction you can go when the liberal media keeps accusing you of giving a “disastrous” speech. He’s mocking them.
You mean like the question was , “What do you say to republicans who are complaining that your speech took the focus off of what they thought was important?”
His answer would make perfectly good sense.
If Obama had made that statement, the interviewer would have said “when you say dumb, you don’t really mean that they were stupid, right”?
Because the media always asks the follow-up questions to save Obama from whatever he says. And if they don’t, they pretend they did anyway.
So we are all “liars” if we insist that Obama actually said “you didn’t build that”, since they KNOW that Obama didn’t MEAN to say it.
“...refuse to admit the entire thing was a train wreck....”
It wasn’t. Just like attacking Obama on the terrorist apology, it was perfect. The media want to make people think it was bad when it wasn’t
Notice they snuck the word “hired” into the text. As if he was just an actor doing a job for wages. Hellovan insult.
Sarcasm goes over the heads of people with low IQs.
All I hear from the suck ass media is blah blah blah when they open their mouths. They are just as worthless as the scumbags they are working for.
No, I meant “classy” as in a sarcastic description of your crass statement.
No. That’s right. Twinkie shouldn’t have said that bad thing about Obama. I suppose he doesn’t have a butt crack; that would make him just like all the rest of us peons.
Classy? On this forum Classy includes pinging others when you call them out by name.
Get it (bull) TWINKIE?
Red, I meant to ping you on post #49.
