The 10 Richest Celebrities Supporting Occupy Wall Street
Celebrity Net Worth ^ | 09-16-2012 | Brian

September 17th marks the one year anniversary of Occupy Wall Street. Last year when the protests broke out, we were slightly confused when a barrage of insanely rich celebrities had hypocritically thrown their support behind the movement.

Occupy Wall Street’s slogan “We are the 99%” is derived from the idea that the protesters represent the difference in wealth that separates the top 1% of society from every other American citizen. Occupy has defined the top 1% of Americans as anyone who with an annual household income greater than $593,000.

So why are multi-millionaire celebrities announcing their support to grab headlines?

And why is Occupy Wall Street allowing rich celebrities to co-op their message?

For the record, here is a list of the 10 richest celebrities hypocritically supporting Occupy Wall Street. Oh and by the way, these celebrities have a combined net worth of $1.255 billion…

Yoko Ono

Net Worth - $500 million. In several interviews Yoko Ono has stated “I love Occupy Wall Street! John is sending his smile to Occupy Wall Street. I am sending my love to Occupy Wall Street. We are all working together.” Interesting words for a woman who has essentially done nothing of merit for 30 years except inherit a fortune from one of the most famous singers in music history.

Russell Simmons

Net Worth - $325 million It should be noted that on top of being a hip-hop mogul, Russell Simmons happens to be the founder of a high fee credit card company called UniRush Financial Services. That doesn’t seem like something Occupy protesters would be happy about.

Roseanne Barr

Net Worth - $80 million Last year Roseanne Barr famously went on Russian Television and said that she thinks anyone who has more than $100 million should be beheaded. Interesting that her net worth is $80 million. I guess she doesnt make “the cut”.

Deepak Chopra

Net Worth - $80 million Deepak Chopra stated that #OWS is “turning anger into awareness”. The fortune Chopra has made off his fluff filled books just turns me to anger.

Kanye West

Net Worth - $70 million Last year when Kanye West showed up to support Occupy Wall Street, he arrived wearing hundreds of thousand of dollars worth of jewelry and clothing. I think Kanye didn’t quite understand the message.

Alec Baldwin

Net Worth - $65 million I actually love Alec Baldwin, I think he’s great on 30 Rock where he earns $300,000 per episode. But he must understand the irony of making so much money from NBC which is owned jointly by two massive corporate conglomerates, GE and Comcast. Not to mention the fact that Baldwins earns millions each year endorsing a credit card company owned by a Fortune 500 financial services corporation.

Susan Sarandon Net Worth - $50 million

Michael Moore Net Worth - $50 million

Tim Robbins Net Worth - $50 million

Nancy Pelosi Net Worth - $35.5 million

TOM MORELLO

Bonus:

Over the last year, guitarist Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine has positioned himself as one of the most active and vocal celebrity supporters of OWS. Morello has organized several large protests and concerts to help the Occupy movement.

For the September 17th anniversary, Tom is planning to lead a massive protest march throughout New York City’s financial district. The goal of this protest is to “disrupt traffic throughout the Financial District by creating a swirl of roving intersection occupations surrounding the Stock Exchange [in order to imagine] a world without Wall Street.”

Morello’s goals seem slightly ironic when you consider his net worth is $30 million! $30 million makes Tom not only a standing member of the 1%, but he’s more like the .001%.

Meanwhile, Morello’s Rage Against the Machine band mate Zack de la Rocha recently landed on our list of the richest lead singers in the world with a net worth of $25 million. De la Rocha has remained relatively quiet over the last year, but he did release a poem that was “dedicated to the Occupy movement whose courage is changing the world.”

In a further twist of hypocrisy, Zach’s poem tells protesters “stay strong, we are winning.”

I’d love to see both Morello and de la Rocha donate their entire net worths and join the real ranks of the 99%. If that happened, we might take them more seriously.

From Wikipedia on Pelosi's net worth:

While members of Congress are not required to disclose their exact net worth, organizations such as the Center for Responsive Politics prepare estimated ranges based on public disclosures. The CRP's midpoint estimate of the Pelosis' net worth is $58,436,537 as of 2009, the most recent year for which figures are available, with a possible range from $7 million to $124 million.

In addition to their large portfolio of jointly owned San Francisco Bay Area real estate, the couple also owns a vineyard in St. Helena, California, valued between $5 million and $25 million.[citation needed] Pelosi's husband also owns stock, including $1 million in Apple Inc.[citation needed], and is the owner of the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League.

Tom Morello is an avowed Marxist, British style, which means AFU. His picture was put on several Upper Deck Football cards in a subset about great guitarists. He was wearing a hat with a communist Red Star on it in the photos (possibly from some of his performances).

Let’s face it folks, he is a dumbass red, nothing more, nothing less. The fact that he can play a guitar is nice, but so did patriotic Americans like Les Paul, Ted Nugent, and Tobey Keith. There is a difference!

All That Remains vocalist Phil Labonte is now weighing in. Using his Twitter account, the vocalist stated, “Tom Morello is a communist and a fool. He’s also had the wool pulled over his eyes by the system.”

The singer then addressed some of his fans by stating that while he may disagree with a Democrat, it doesn’t mean he’s agreeing with Republicans. Eventually the discussion evolved into a conversation with guitarist Doc Coyle, in which he added about Morello, “I’m not saying he’s dumb. I’m saying he’s a fool for the statist perspective that our government is good when a Democrat is in office.”

Your move, Mr. Morello!

Ironic/funny Roseanne Story (from last year):

Back in October, Roseanne announced on Russian TV that we should behead all rich people. We thought that was a strange statement considering Roseanne is VERY rich. In response, we posted the following article in which we pointed out her hypocrisy.

Immediately after posting the article, we received a series of angry tweets from Roseanne Barr herself.

We posted an open Letter to Roseanne with some simple follow up questions and have yet to hear back…

Here’s what started it all:

Multi-millionaire Roseanne Barr is making waves today after announcing on the Russian Today television network program “Keiser Report” that she wants to bring back the guillotine and behead all rich people.

Not sure if this should be classified as ironic, hypocritical, masochistic or just plain stupid considering Roseanne herself is worth over $80 million. Does this mean she’s volunteering to be the first rich neck the chopping block? At least if that happened we would never be subjected to one of her infamously awful renditions of the National Anthem!

Roseanne is one of many wealthy celebrities who are standing behind an organization called “Occupy Wall Street” that has been camping out in a New York City park demonstrating against bankers.

The Occupy Wall Street movement has been going on for nearly three weeks with over 1000 people getting arrested mainly for disorderly conduct. On Saturday October 1st alone, 700 people were arrested attempting to cross the Brooklyn Bridge. Similar protests have sprung up in other major cities like San Francisco, Boston and Los Angeles.

The stated goal of the organization is to bring light to the influence wealthy corporations have on American politics and democracy.

So how does Roseanne play into all this? On Sunday the former sitcom star, current Macadamia net farmer (not kidding google it), went onto Russian television and stated:

“I first would allow the guilty bankers to pay back anything over $100 million in personal wealth, because I believe in a maximum wage of $100 million. And if they are unable to live on that amount, then they should go to the re-education camps. And if that doesn’t help, then be beheaded.”

Strong words coming from someone who herself controls a massive personal fortune. I think we would all like to see Roseanne put her money where her mouth is. In order to walk the talk, we here at CelebrityNetWorth.com are calling on Roseanne to donate 50% of her current personal fortune to charity today.

We also encourage her to donate any and all her future salary and royalty earnings to a non profit aimed at helping poor families. And while we are at it, we want other wealthy celebrities who are supporting Occupy Wall Street to follow suit and put their wallets where their mouths are...

Michael Moore and Yoko Ono would be locked up in any other country for treason…theirs is not freedom of speech, however Roseanne Barr has no excuse for turning on a country that put up with her bad manners and rudeness for years. Nancy Pelosi, is the consummate power hungry politician who has not a care in the world for people or her country. Every country has their share of people who delight in tearing down the status quo; miserable little people who are never content, they want the attention.

Rosanne Barr isn’t a celebrity.

Actually she's a presidential candidate for the Peace & Freedom Party. Cindy Sheehan is her running mate.

Seriously. They're on the ballot in CA.
