Prince Harry got extra protection after Taliban attack on his base in Afghanistan

Prince Harry at Camp Bastion, Afghanistan on September 7.

LONDON — Britain's defense secretary says Prince Harry got extra protection when the Taliban attacked his base in Afghanistan last Friday.

Philip Hammond says the prince, a helicopter pilot, was moved to a secure position once it was clear that the perimeter of Camp Bastion had been breached.

In an interview with the BBC Monday night, Hammond said: "He is serving there as an ordinary officer but clearly there are additional security arrangements in place that recognize that he could be a target himself specifically as a result of who he is."

Two U.S. Marines were killed and six planes were destroyed. The Taliban said the attack was staged to avenge a film that insulted Islam and because Harry is serving at the base.

My Irish roots go back prior to most Royal families.

The simpler the crest the older the family.

Golden stag on a azure shield with 3 fleur-de-lis’

Prince Harry is in a combat zone....if he’s not expected to fight....then he should remain in the UK.

This is respect for those that are here in Afghanistan to fight.

Your point again?

Ignore as many points as you wish. Here’s another one: do you feel safer in an Afghanistani camp that contains Prince Harry, or one that does not? LOL

I’m in an area where Prince Harry would be unwilling to serve.

This FOB is in the top 5 most active in Afghanistan.

If Harry doesn’t want to fight then the answer is obvious...no, he wouldn’t be desired here.

Reality hits the bone here every day.

I have to go serve right now, but will be back in about an hour.

God help you if you need an Apache pilot.

Harry has proven himself serious about real service — without special treatment.

Blame the treasonous media, for reporting details on his deployment — just as he did, when he served on land. He was ready, willing, and able to serve as a combat helicopter pilot, with all the risks that entails. At least, he was before he was outed.

Now, that the Taliban have targeted him, it's only sensible to take some precautions. However, sending him back home (with his tail between his legs) would be a victory for the Taliban. They should not be allowed to succeed at this.

The attack was on the Bastion/British side of the base, near the Marine airfield and attack helicopters were sent up in the fray, Prince Harry’s helicopter was not.

Again, for the last time, what is your point?

Is he an asset? Utilize him! If not, send him home.

He’s a gunner on an Apache....let him gun.

Since Prince Harry is the Royal Bait, hopefully now it’ll be real easy to get the Taliban out from where they are hiding and Prince Harry’s Apache Gunship will smoke ‘em all out.

He's most definitely an asset.

HRH Prince Henry of Wales is third in line to the throne — not just of Britain, but of all 15 nations of the Realm (including Canada and Australia). Even if all he did was show up for breakfast occasionally, his presence would be worth far more than the cost of some extra security. All sorts of people get extra security in a war zone — the general staff, visiting dignitaries, visiting entertainers, even reporters. The Prince is there in a front-line capacity, not just a photo op. His value for troop morale, and for future recruitment is immense.

If it weren't for the traitors in the media, he wouldn't be a special target of the Taliban. He'd be free to fight — as he did before, when he served in combat as a soldier.

Winning a war is about more than slinging lead. The Prince is contributing far more than most. Give it a rest.

HRH Prince Henry of Wales, third in line of succession for the Throne (of 15 nations in the Realm) is there for more than a photo op. He’s already served as a front-line combat soldier.

The Crown is the symbol of every nation in the Realm — it’s a more important symbol for us, than our respective national flags. The Royal family has a long history of leading by example, in times of strife. Prince Henry is doing his duty, as he sees it. His presence there is worth many times the cost of some extra security. (And, if he draws out some Taliban for killing, all the better.)

I don't doubt his desire to lead by example or the resolve of prince Harry to do his duty. He is a good man and a good soldier.

What I am trying to convey is that his mere presence as a symbol of the Realm as you state makes him and those around him, including soldiers who are just trying to do their job and come home with their ass attached, a bigger target.

His presence is endangering his fellow soldiers more so than if he was not there or serving in relative anominity.

Continued photo OPs and press coverage of his deployment and location are making others vulnerable to attack.

There is no way to calculate that extra cost my friend.

The fact still remains -- his presence is doing far more good for the overall war effort, than the cost of extra protection. (Not to mention that the extra protection is only needed, because the traitorous media outed his position.)

The American flag seems to be a popular target for extremists everywhere. A lot of good men have died protecting it. Why not simply take it down from the flagpole at every embassy and foreign military base? Preposterous you say? No more so than removing HRC Prince Henry of Wales from the battlefield, for the reasons you put forward.

Your efforts to denigrate his real service, by suggesting that they're nothing but photo ops, is noted.

BRITISH army chiefs slam Australian gossip mag New Idea for breaking a secrecy deal and revealing that Prince Harry was on the front line in Afghanistan, while the gung-ho royal tells how he fought off "Terry Taliban" with a machine gun.
