Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) on Monday introduced the "Big Cats and Public Safety Protection Act," a bill that would prohibit private possession and breeding of tigers and other "big cats."

"I know it sounds like something you just read about when there's a tragic news story, but it's all too real for first responders who respond to a 911 call and are surprised to come face to face with a Bengal tiger," said Sen. Kerry. …

It’s the big issue of our Time, and up til now, no one was talking about it. I guess only a man with the stones to serve in Vietnam could tackle such a crucial issue.

What exactly qualifies as “private possession”? Privately owned animal sanctuaries or zoos? Circuses? Hollywood animal trainers? Or are we just going to ban Joe Citizen from owning these animals?

I think it’s generally a dumb idea for people to own these things, and I’m not opposed to bans or at least licensing and regulation, but it should be done at the state and local level, and if we ban them for taxpayers, then we should ban them for institutions and government bodies as well.

There was a time he would have laughed out of Senate for trying to pass a federal bill protecting people from tigers....

I wonder how many other senators rolled their eyes... And thought what an asshat...

But those big nanny staters think the federal government is supposed to do everything....

Just how big does a cat have to be to be a “big cat”?

The greater danger is from the fat cat politicians in D.C.

Ya know, the Sultan of Oman gave President Martin Van Buren a couple of tiger cubs.

Congress suggested that he donate the tigers to a zoo, and VB did.

It appears that JF'nK is just jealous that nobody, let alone a Sultan, offered him tigers. In typical 'rat fashion, if he can't get them for free, then nobody should be able to have them.

I think we need a “you can’t have desert until you eat your vegetables law”, for the congress critters.
The bill would require these a$$clowns to pass a budget, and the appropriations bills, before they address such things as the “protect people from the pussy that eats you” legislation.

I once worked in the R HQ, in came one of the Reps. I got to know him, and knew I could kid with him. He talked about some "law", they were working on.

My comment to him was: "What ever posseses you guys to think "YOU MUST PASS A LAW"? Can't we just PAY you to go up there a DO NOTHING? He was ROFLing, he knew I was right.

We need a LAW, that they can't PASS ANY LAWs.

Exactly! This is not a Federal issue. Those idiots in the Senate seem to often forget that there is a 10th Ammendment and that the Constitution severely limits what the Federal gov’t. can do, as compared to what the States can do.
