number of able-bodied adults on food stamps doubled after Obama suspended work requirement
washington examiner ^ | 9-19-12 | Philip Klein

Obama administration officials have insisted that their decision to grant states waivers to redefine work requirements for welfare recipients would not “gut” the landmark 1996 welfare reform law. But a new report from the Congressional Research Service obtained by the Washington Examiner suggests that the administration’s suspension of a separate welfare work requirement has already helped explode the number of able-bodied Americans on food stamps.

In addition to the broader work requirement that has become a contentious issue in the presidential race, the 1996 welfare reform law included a separate rule encouraging able-bodied adults without dependents to work by limiting the amount of time they could receive food stamps. President Obama suspended that rule when he signed his economic stimulus legislation into law, and the number of these adults on food stamps doubled, from 1.9 million in 2008 to 3.9 million in 2010, according to the CRS report, issued in the form of a memo to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va.

“This report once again confirms that President Obama has severely gutted the welfare work requirements that Americans have overwhelmingly supported since President Clinton signed them into law,” Cantor said in an emailed statement. “It’s time to reinstate these common-sense measures, and focus on creating job growth for those in need.”

All according to plan.

And the Sheeperals still tout “sustainability” with regard to the environment.

“This report once again confirms that because of the spineless republicans in the house and senate allowing him to President Obama has severely gutted the welfare work requirements that Americans have overwhelmingly supported since President Clinton signed them into law,” Cantor said in an emailed statement.

There are 47 million people on food stamps now. I don’t get the numbers in the article. The article mentions “adults” but something doesn’t sound right.

You put Speaker Boner and Minority Leader McConnell in the “spineless” category? You do know this might hurt their feelings don’t you? /s

You don't have to donate money to the Romney campaign to make a difference. (You should donate money to FreeRepublic.)

If You Live in a Blue State, Here Is What You Can Do To Help Romney Beat Obama

I've made 1600 phone calls from home to New Hampshire in the last six days using the system set up by the campaign. Even 100 calls will make a difference. Who will join me?

Mark Steyn pointed out last night that the combined population of Canada and Australia equals the number of folks on food stamps. Very Sobering!

There are two possibilities.

He's insane and keeps trying to do the same thing over and over hoping for a different outcome.

or

He is intentionally destroying the economy.

There is no third choice.

To believe he is insane you would have to believe ALL dems that follow this madness are insane too, which isn't likely.

The only logical conclusion, they are intentionally destroying the economy.

Let's not forget the House of Representatives which is mostly Republicans...Obviously they have their hands in this as well...We don't have a Democrat problem...We have a government problem...

I know those calls tend to tick me off and everyone I know feels the same way

The only thing worse is the ones knocking on your door to tell you who to vote for.

Mailed stuff not so bad.

Does this mean that able-bodied adults (like me) can now get food stamps? Because if that is the case I am going to apply.

Before you start screaming “moocher 47 percenter”, think about it this way: food stamps to me are just a way of offsetting the Fed inflation tax implemented by the oblunder administration (and don’t EVEN suggest the Fed doesn’t work hand in hand with oblunder’s Treasury).

I deserve food stamps. And so do all Americans.

the dems have the senate, the repub house can't do anything on it's own.

What should they do, shut down the govt and get rioting in every city of the US?

If you don't believe the dems would burn down every city in this country to try and keep their power, your wrong.

Sounds like “waivers to redefine work requirements for welfare recipients” are a High-Tech version of “walking around money.”

I wonder if the explosion of food stamp recipients will be the thing that bites Obama in the butt.

Those of us “pulling the wagon” rarely interacted in real life with those who were on the dole.

But now, in every WalMart, we get a front row view of those who we are supporting. And while I buy my store-brand cereal, not because I can’t afford brand name, but because I think it’s stupid to pay all that money for Tony the Tiger, I watch those ahead of me in line whip out that card for Capri Sun and sushi. (at least that was last week’s outrage)

Nothing like a front row seat to bring it all home.

They (liberals, democraps, etc) MUST have the goods on the republican legislators.
The goods have to be pretty bad for these spineless congresscritters not to do or say anything.

I understand your response to these calls. However, there are many people who don't respond that way. Phone calls are an important tool for campaigns to build their volunteer organization, move undecideds, and get out our vote.

Just because some people get annoyed doesn't mean that it isn't important work. I know many conservatives are hostile to polls in general, feeling they are used for perverse reasons. You see here how they can serve a valuable purpose as well.

The goal is failure.

Broken dependent people vote democrat. Thy system is set up to make that happen, NOT to help a person on a temporary basis - but to make them dependent. It's sick, but on the lighter brighter side, it does allow liberals to feel superior.
