Help Romney Beat Obama Without Donating Money
September 19, 2012 | Ziva

Posted on 09/19/2012 12:44:11 PM PDT by Ziva

No matter where you live in the USA, without donating money, you can make a difference in this election by going to http://www.mittromney.com/call-home-landing.

I live in New York, a hopelessly blue state. There is very little I can do locally to help Romney. However, they have an excellent phone-from-home system this year, much better than other phone banks I've done before. It uses a combination of a regular phone for making the calls and a website where you enter the responses online. They select the phone calls for you, so they have me calling New Hampshire rather than New York.

Your phone number never appears to your caller because the phone bank company calls YOU at home and then connects all calls. They make an in-state caller ID appear on each call. I actually use my Skype phone number on my cell phone (costs me no cell phone minutes) because I have a great headset for my cell phone.

I started making phone calls from home for Romney. It is easy, well-supported, and free. A very brief script appears on your PC, and you answer the few questions with dropdown boxes. It is important to start now so they can target the right people for the campaign. You can get started at http://www.mittromney.com/call-home-landing.

They will direct your calls to the states where they need the most help, so don't worry about calling out-of-state. There are no long-distance charges because the system calls you first to enable you to make the calls to others.

I sat on my hands last election and didn't work because I didn't like McCain. (Of course, I voted.) Even though Romney was not my first choice, we know now that another Obama win would be disasterous. Please pass this on to all your political friends. The calls made now help identify voters who can be moved to vote for Romney.

My goal is to make at least 10,000 calls. That comes out to about 200 calls a day which can be done in less than three hours. They really make it quick and easy. I do not want to be partly responsible for Obama getting reelected.

No one should feel that if he or she can make just 100 calls, it is not worth the effort. EVERY effort helps and WILL make a difference. If you can call only one hour a week, then you WILL have done your part.

I do want to remind you of the the reality of phone-banking. Depending on the time of day, half the calls may be to answering machines. It is just the price of doing business this way, and not a failure at all. It is noted, and we move on. I actually read and post election information on websites and FaceBook while I wait for a phone to be answered.

Some people have told me they are not comfortable discussing politics. Phone bank workers do not engage in discussions about the candidates or the issues. All you have to do is read the short script on your screen.

Some people will be hostile or rude, may hang up brusquely, or try to engage you in time-wasting arguments. Do not be discouraged by these calls. They do not bother me a bit. I just move on. We are looking for all Romney voters AND undecideds who can be moved by the campaign. The phone calls also help build the volunteer team for the state we are calling.

If you are worried about rejection or the very rare rudeness, I suggest this is a great experience for you to get used to it. Remember, if the caller is rude or rejecting, IT IS NOT ABOUT YOU. It is a reflection of their own problems and concerns.

There is a place for notes for each call. If the person is a Romney voter, I ask if they need help getting to the poll or need an absentee ballot and put that information in the note field. If an undecided voter tells me what campaign issue is important to him, I note that as well. You do not have to do it, but any information you can glean from a potential voter can be worth noting.

Your important work will identify for the campaign all undecided voters that can be influenced with campaign materials, and all Romney voters for a get-out-the-vote (GOTV) effort at the end of the campaign.

Many of us are suffering in this bad economy and can donate little money to this campaign. If you do have the money to donate, please do. However, my point is that we all can donate some time to help, and it is as good as money to a campaign.

If you are in red or purple state, then I hope you get involved with the local Romney campaign. You can still use spare time at home to make phone calls.

If you are in a blue state, then please join me in doing what you can from home with phone calls.

Next, please pass this on to your friends everywhere. Let's create an army of workers bigger than the unions do for the Democrats. And please let me know personally If this helped you get started working on the campaign, please let me know personally at RomneyVolunteers2012@gmail.com.

What guides me is a saying from Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers): "It is not your job to complete the task, but neither can you desist from it."

Clever idea. You can bet the Obama team does the same thing.

Please don’t call me. I can’t stand getting political calls, even those on behalf of candidates I support. They are intrusive and annoying. I suspect alot of people feel the way I do.

Indeed. How do they keep the OWS bots from using the Romney call list to call for Obama?

Exactly. I hate any non-solicited phone calls. I hang up on them. If they call back, I chew them out.

I’ll do anything BUT phone bank.

I hate getting calls from total strangers wanting something, be it political or charity or whatever. I won’t do to other people what I don’t want done to myself.

But for those who don’t mind manning the phones, it is a great way to support the candidate.

Great post Ziva.

I've made phone calls starting in 2000 for GWB and even called last cycle {but my heart was not in it and I didn't work very diligently}.

I loved Sarah but mcpain was hard to work for.

This cycle, I'm calling for Ryan/Romney and am more into it because I've seen what obama has done, and worse, what he would do if re-elected.

BTW, my real name is not USSAlaska, I am Leroy Jethro Gibb's father.

Hi Ziva.

I see you have been splashing all the threads this morning with your GOTV effort.

Be aware that many on FR like me aren’t going to actively agitate for Romney. We may vote for him but his track-record screams RINO and...tho we may vote for him...he aren’t really gonna get out and make phone calls to anyone on his behalf.

I would say that, in short, the majority of FReepers are willing to vote aginst Obamugabe but don’t ask us to put in time or talent to pimp RINOmney.

To surfing FReepers, please chime in and chastise me for “speaking for the majority”.

We went to the headquarters and got our stickers and yard sign is out. Of course we bring it in at night. We live in a liberal town in Los Angeles. Sign would be gone by morning if we left it out.

I hang up on all political phone calls, of which I get five or six on some days.

Or if I don't hang up, I just set the phone down until I hear the trouble signal and hang it up then.

Being a lazy bastard, any excuse not to work will do just fine.

Ziva and I don't believe we are pimps, but you just sit one your lazy butt and save your valuable "time and talent" for the candidate that you approve of 110%.

If obama wins you can take solace in the fact that Romney didn't meet your lofty standards.

I'd rather be called a whore than a pimp if the name calling is all the same to you.

No, but you should honestly ask yourself the simple question: Do I want Romney to win or not?

It sounds like you haven't actually made up your mind on that one. "I'll vote for him, barely, under duress, whining and complaining, grumbling... But don't expect me to openly SUPPORT the guy!"

Pfffft. Make up your mind for real, dude.

This is how politics works in the real world. Call it the lesser of two evils, or whatever makes the most sense to you. You support the one who represents your best option. Support him for real and help him win.

If you want the candidate who thinks just like you to be in the race, then by all means run!

Lately I’ve just been taking the phone off the hook from 5 to 7 pm when most political calls come in. ALWAYS when I’m cooking dinner, or getting ready to sit down and eat.

Don’t these callers know this just alienates people?

With call screener, who is left in America so lonesome, bored or twisted that they would even pick up for a strange number, or no number at all. I don’t know a soul who does that anymore, unless it’s by accident.

Start your own post-it note campaign. Write on the post-it notes something like “Obama policies are killing America. VOTE HIM OUT! NObama Nov. 2012”

or “OMG ! Obama Must Go !”

Then stick them wherever you go: The grocery store shelf, the window of the bus or train commute. The parking meter. Wherever.

If Obama wins it will be the end of America.

It will also be the end of the Republican party if I can have anything to do with it. I’ve had enough.
