An Open Letter to Governor Jerry Brown--Also Actually Sent to His Office
09/19/2012 | Misses Bush

Posted on 09/19/2012 1:45:28 PM PDT by MissesBush

Governor Brown: I use to be able to buy things like diapers and pet food online for cheaper than retail. But now that you have forced through an illegal internet tax not passed by the state legislature by 2/3rds as required by the constitution, I am having to pay the same for these things online as retail for the most part. I am middle class and work hard to make ends meet in this ridiculously expensive state to live in. Governor Brown, your tax hike on people like me has made my life more difficult, more expensive and more complicated as I now need to scrimp and save even more in other ways because the price of so much is going up from your tax hiking. And now you want us to go to the polls in November and give you more tax hikes all because you don't have the courage to cut from the takers in this state?? You can forget it sir. The people of this state will reject your tax hikes en masse, even Democrats I predict.

Meanwhile, you demand even more of us and tell us to make do with less with all this tax hiking even as you sign a multi hundred million dollar high speed rail boondoggle NO ONE WILL USE if it's ever even completed and will not get there if it ever does without massive fraud, abuse and cost overruns almost assuredly. The people of this state cannot handle any more abuse Mr. Brown. We're at the end of our ropes. Food, gas, housing prices and so much more at record levels and higher than in most any other state and you want to take more even as our wages aren't rising by at least equivalent levels? Time to make those who aren't being asked the sacrifice, i.e. the takers of this state, to make do with a lot less, not those of us who work hard, pay taxes and keep the rules.

Meanwhile, your efforts to hike taxes and regulations make this one of the least competitive states to do business in costing us jobs and keeping suppressing wage growth. People who have jobs can barely get by, and those without jobs spend years looking because jobs are bleeding out of this state as you and those imbeciles in the State Assembly make this state more and more hostile to business and entreneurship. The result is a vicious cycle of more and more people dependent on the state, driving up budgets, deficits and debt. Every time you move to hike taxes or pass some new absurd regulations, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado and Texas celebrate---because they get 10s of thousands of California's jobs. The only way to bring back this state is to bring down California's tax rates, nearly the highest in the nation, and make the state an attractive place to do business again. You'll see the revenue flow in then. Thinking you can bring back California by hiking yet more taxes would be like thinking you can cure lung cancer by having a patient smoke a pack of Luckys.

In short I'm asking this: Take the boot off our necks sir! I'm not wealthy. I'm not some fat cat. I'm extremely middle class trying to make it in a state where you guys in Sacramento work almost daily to make it more and more impossible for us to do that. Please, stop with the moronic ideology and get back to what made this state great, policies that are allowing other states to thrive: low taxes, reasonable regulations and yes, increased energy production. We could solve this state's financial and economic problems just by allowing clean drilling off our shores, to say nothing about bringing down California's exhorbitant gas prices. Look at the economic boom in North Dakota. It's all driven by the state drilling for oil! We're insane not to be doing this and so much more to get California back to great!

Move to Texas. We need as many conservatives as we can get. Do you know what $200,000 or less buys you in a house? No state income tax!

I wish. Unfortunately, or fortunately I guess I should say, I have a job here I like—though I’m hoping they let me transfer out to another state one day—and an aging parent to care for both of which keep me tied to this gulag of a state. But one day I’ll head for the exits.

You are exactly right.

That is what happened to North Carolina when those yankees from New York moved there.

The first thing they do is get involved in local government, showing up at meetings and loudly complaining about everything, trying to change the laws to suit them.

Piece of advice to all yankees who move South-

WHEN WE SAY HELLO, IT IS OK FOR YOU TO SAY HELLO BACK. WE ARE NOT TRYING TO ROB YOU OR INFECT YOU WITH ANY SOUTHERN DISEASE. WE ARE BEING FRIENDLY TO STRANGERS. IF THAT IS TOO MUCH FOR YOU TO HANDLE, I-95 RUNS TWO DIRECTIONS.

Oh, and God Bless Texas.

Jim Robinson lives in Fresno, California. If she’s here, she’e probably not a liberal. Don’t you agree that if people are going to move here (and they are) we want them to be mostly conservatives? I grew up in Chino, California until my family moved to Iowa and I’m no liberal. Orange, Riverside, San Bernadino and other counties are chock full of conservatives, but they’re in an ocean of blue, so their votes don’t count.

Too bad for you because Jerry Brown is much smarter than you and he doesn’t take advice from members of the lower caste. Get back to work and be thankful for his beneficent Lordship.

I could understand this coming from someone in East Germany in the 1970’s who would have to find some way to break out of the barbed wire, concrete walls, and machinegun nests. I can’t understand why anyone would stay in California when they are free to leave at any time for a better state.

California resembles East Germany in that it is about as hard to vote out a member of the state Assembly or Senate as it was to vote someone out of the Volkskmmer, or People's Chamber, the East German legislature.

California has required its residents to pay an excise tax on out of state purchases for many years now. Until last year, when an estimate was allowed, that tax had to be computed on the basis of the sales tax avoided by shopping with out of state online retailers. Those who were “saving” sales tax by buying online usually weren’t paying the required excise tax on their purchases.

We had many Californian’s moved to Colorado and they mess some things up. Only the very conservative one’s are welcome. The liberals can stay in their newly created hellhole.

The East German legislature could not have been quite as bat-crap nutz, fiscally retarded, and left-wing as the CA Assembly.

Hell of a thing to say to the FReepers who frequently put up more money for FR than Texans. Maybe you should tell that to the owner of this site while you're at it. He lives in Fresno, CA.
