OMG! They’re Using Targets! Human Shaped Targets! OMG!
The Truth About Guns ^ | 20 September, 2012 | Dan Zimmerman

Posted on 09/20/2012 10:28:47 AM PDT by marktwain

Gun-friendly Utah is surprisingly queasy when it comes to the kinds of paper targets shooters are allowed to use on state-owned ranges. Well, one state agency is, anyway. Now a Beehive State legislator wants to know why. “’The range belongs to the people,’ Sen. Mark Madsen, R-Eagle Mountain, said. ‘We need to make sure that people are not restricted in their use because of an overstep of authority.’” Or an overabundance of political correctness . . .

It is not against state law for human form targets to be used inside the gun-friendly Beehive State, but Utah’s Division of Wildlife Resources has had an unwritten policy in place that the targets are not to be used by the general public at the ranges. The human silhouette targets are allowed if the range is being rented out by a police force or a concealed weapons training class.

Just to be clear, it’s OK for cops to practice using targets that represent what they’ll most likely find themselves shooting at, but it’s somehow beyond the pale for Jane and Joe Schmoe to do the same when training to protect themselves and their families. OK, then.

Representatives with DWR explained that the ranges’ primary purposes are to promote hunter safety and that human form targets are not used in those courses as they felt the targets would be counterproductive to the course. DWR said they were open to discussion on finding a way for those who want to take aim at something other than a bullseye.

“Counterproductive,” huh? It all becomes a little clearer, doesn’t it? DWR’s bought into that whole ‘sporting purpose‘ thing. Next thing you know, they’ll prohibit, uh, assault rifles. Or as they’d probably call them, “terrorist rifles.”

People in Utah can work to correct this. It is part of the strategy to delegitimize armed citizens and self defense.

I’ve never known anyone fire their weapon in defense against a round target with numbers and rings.

(Just when I thought it might be safe to move to Utah...)

The Second Amendment mentions NOTHING about hunting.

I used to shoot at a range that allowed silhouettes on its indoor handgun line but not on its outdoor rifle line. I asked why and they replied, “When you shoot at a silhouette with a handgun you’re practicing self-defense, but when you shoot at a silhouette with a rifle you’re practicing to be a sniper.”

An interesting take, I never worried about it a lot because I preferred bull-eyes anyway.

The Constitution of the State of Michigan of 1963 Article 1, Section 6 reads:

Every person has a right to keep and bear arms for the defense of himself and the state.

I'm content to use any available, suitable target at the range.

Just take whatever, wrap an old dish towel around the top, simulating a turban, and go for it!

It doesn't hurt marksmanship to call it endearing names, either...like "Mookie," "Blind Sheikh," etc.

Stupid idea, but there’s a simple workaround: shoot instead at targets of Bigfoot.

If human silhouettes are not allowed how is one suppose to practice 2 to the body, 1 to the head?

“When you shoot at a silhouette with a handgun you’re practicing self-defense, but when you shoot at a silhouette with a rifle you’re practicing to be a sniper.”

You should have said and the problem with that is what?

If you can't practice on human silhouettes, then they should allow automatic weapons so that if you are attacked you WILL hit the perp!

I raise ducks and geese. I name the ones I intend to butcher after democrats. It makes it easier for me when it comes time to cut their heads off and gut them.

We plan to have Pelosi on Thanksgiving and Reid on Christmas.

But my targets aren't human silhouettes, they are chimpanzee silhouettes.

Simple solution: “These aren’t human-shaped targets. They are zombie-shaped targets.”

My now son-in-law was brought by the house to meet me. My daughter had asked that before I met him, I go downstairs and clean a shotgun and something.

Outside the door, I heard her and him ‘discussing’ going in to meet me. Finally, she got exasperated and said, “Mark, just go do it!”

He came in and I shook his hand, he was obviously nervous and he started asking me about what he was seeing in my gun bench workroom....”Do you do a lot of Hunting?” I said, “Nope, I didn’t buy these guns to kill no animals.”

10 years later, I couldn’t have asked for a better man for my little girl. They gave me and the wifey three of the most beautiful grand daughters one could imaging.

I recently let him go through my cache and tag what he’d like to inherit.....[he’s got the hots for my Beretta CX-4 Storm Carbine, although I don’t think much of it]
