Fortune considers companies, domestic or foreign, that are traded on a U.S. stock exchange.
California has more of the 2012 fastest growth companies than any other location:
California: 24
International: 20
Texas: 11
New York: 8
Massachusetts: 4

And just how many employees of those California based corporations are located OUTSIDE of California? Yes, there still are companies headquartered in CA, but a huge number of them are expanding their operations OUTSIDE of the formerly Golden State. I know because I live here.
One of the three located in Orange County, California is a circuit board manufacturer (TTM). I wonder just how much of their circuit board manufacturing is done here considering all of the environmental regulations being crammed down the throats of businesses on a continual basis. Nine of TTM’s twelve facilities are located OUTSIDE of California, and 5 of those are in CHINA.

BTW, this is what happens when companies expand and it's an easy guess where a good percentage of their profits go.
