A Northwest Austin homeowner, who hung a chair from a tree meant to symbolize President Obama, has taken it down.
The political blog burntorangereport.com first talked about the display in the Spicewood Estates area Wednesday night.
The fold-up chair, with an American flag attached to it, was hung from a tree in front of Bud Johnsons home and some neighbors complained that it was racist.
KEYE TV News wanted to find out from Johnson about the chair and why he put it up. KEYE TV reporter Lydia Pantazes and photojournalist Mario Pena went to his house Thursday morning. As they arrived, Johnson was taking down the chair and he advised Pantazes and Pena to get the hell away.
When Pantazes asked him why he hung the chair from the tree, he responded Havent you heard of the Clint Eastwood thing with the empty chair?
Johnson also said hes not a racist and that he doesnt dislike any race. In addition, he said the chair was not being lynched, and when Pantazes asked why he had it hanging from the tree, he said the tree was "the only place I had to put the damn thing. Johnson then placed the chair on his lawn a few feet away from the tree.
Pantazes talked to a neighbor who told her that Johnson is an overall good neighbor and a nice guy. Hes just a really conservative Republican. The neighbor, who did not want to be identified, thought the issue was taken out of context.

The shock to me is that a conservative actually lives in Austin.
Is the MSM admitting that an empty chair symbolizes Barack??
No kidding. The only county NOT to approve our marriage amendment (but not by that much.)
I have one in my yard. leaving it there to remind people of Obama
I sure hope that Bud Johnson follows up on his threat to sue the reporter for filming his property.
According to the illiterate mediot headline writer the tree symbolizes Obama, not the chair.
Lots of empty chairs appearing in the front yards where I live here in central Texas.
An “ACORN” connection, perhaps?
His big mistake was hanging it. He should have tarred and feathered it.
LOL! This thread has so much potential. Hanging an “Empty Chair” is racist........HAHAHAHAHAHA!!
He should have put the chair on the “porch”.......oh wait, that’s racist too.
Racist making a chair ride in back of Pickum-up truck!
If I did that with a Mattress would that upset Sandra Fluke, NOW or the ladies on the “View”?
Not a shock to me but the conservatives need to show up in larger numbers on election days, especially on the election day for Austin Silly council. There are parts of Austin - east of 35 and south of 45th street that are hopeless.
Hanging a chair from a tree is racist because the chair symbolizes Barack Obamateur -- who is black -- and suggests that he be lynched.
Burning an American flag is a meaningless gesture protected by the First Amendment because a flag is just a material object.
By the way, thanks for admitting that Obama is best symbolized by an empty chair.
LOL! I’ll leave that alone.
Just attach a box of condoms to the back and they should be OK with it.
I still have and empty chair in my yard. No political sign this year, except for the chair. I need to make a poster with 0 bummer’s words “If I can’t fix the economy in three years, I don’t deserve a second term” or whatever he said and put it in the chair.
I didn’t know for sure if you lived in Austin City Limits.......I try my best to avoid going into Austin for anything, but of course I have to once in a while.
Just about everything you need or want can now be found in Lakeway—and I saw a perfectly normal-looking woman here in Lakeway today that had an obammy sign on her car. That was a shock—she was driving a merc, so is obviously not hurting...
I make the lazy worthless lying slug sit out in the rain as well.
Two words: “GONE GOLFING”
Another image reflecting Obama’s economy was at my local Cosco srore today. At a parking lot entranceway, about 50 yards from the store, was A man holding a baby and a woman standing next to him holding a sign.
No, we don’t live in Austin. We are still across the lake from you but lived there long enough. If Austin ever went to single member districts, I figure there would be a 6 - 4 conservative or a 5 - 5 split with the mayor being elected “at large”.
That is why I made the comment about conservatives not voting in Austin elections. Hippieville - along Exposition and south of 35th street - is the most represented area in Austin. Most of the area east of 35 is minority and will vote for the dims.
$1.00 machine operated condom dispenser would probably get worn out in 7 days! By the way you do know 7 days make a whole week!
BJ Clinton used Astroturf as a bed liner for his “dogs”!
Nice window sticker.
RS, slugs love the rain, if there is none just WEE WEE UP, on him.
Great day to you both.
That would work, since I live right on a golf course. Maybe use the 0 bummer O in each word...
I thought I would make a list of everything that is racist.
I concluded it would easier to list things that are not racist (see list below)
Things that are not racist...
Can someone help me get started please!
I don’t consider Travis County to be part of Texas, anyway. Still I have to send my P.E. license renewal there.
He is just a Conservative living close to a pack of Obama loving idiots.
I think I am going to half-burn that pos new flag that was just released and then tape it to the empty chair on my front porch.
Just print a copy of course, there’s no way that I would send that a-hole money.
