Why is the race close?
The Daily Caller ^ | 09/20/2012 | Ira Brodsky

President Obama’s re-election hopes should be growing dimmer by the hour.

His domestic policy has caused unprecedented suffering: high unemployment, gas prices that have doubled, and record numbers on food stamps and disability.

His foreign policy has emboldened our enemies. Our embassies are under attack and Iran’s genocidal leaders are closer to acquiring nuclear weapons.

And yet it is a tight race. How can that be?

Perhaps the polls are wrong. But it’s more likely that decades of media propaganda and public school indoctrination, as well as growing dependency on government, are taking their toll.

Conservative pundits complain that poll samples are skewed in favor of Democrats. When polls conducted just prior to elections are compared with the actual election results, they are frequently found to have overestimated Democrats’ strength. And there are many other potential sources of error in polls. Most polls are conducted via landline telephones despite the fact that more and more people use cellphones exclusively. Some people also believe that conservatives are less likely to participate in polls.

But even polls conducted by Fox News and the Wall Street Journal show President Obama ahead. If we give Romney a 3-point handicap, then the race is dead even.

The media influences how people perceive the issues and candidates, which is why responsible news organizations should strive to be accurate and fair. The fact that most reporters and editors are left-of-center is not necessarily a problem. But it is a problem that many reporters and editors have bought into the idea that since perfect objectivity is unattainable there is no point in trying to be objective. Some of these journalists end up becoming full-fledged propagandists.

The media’s role as propagandist is evidenced in several ways. News stories freely mix opinion with fact. Interviews are conducted not to gather

Where in Montana do you live? My wife an I met in Bozeman. My great grandparents were homesteaders in Montana.

My grandfather wanted to strangle Chet Huntley for telling everyone in Hollywood to go up there. He hated him because it was Chet who began calling Montana Big Sky country.

It used to be called the Treasure State because of its status as the country’s foremost producer of metallic treasure—gold, silver, and, most importantly, copper.

The copper Kings of Butte are even involved in a landmark Supreme Court case that ruled the person who owned the land on top, owned the minerals under it, even if the minerals went diagonally into their neighbors property.

Their neighbor would still own the land on top, but the minerals under it belonged to the guy who owned the land the minerals were originally tapped at the peak from.

The ruling spelled the inevitable demise and bankruptcy of the losing copper king. Any way, great country, and the best fly fishing in the world. Especially on the Gallatin River in the canyon. My grandfathers property had the Gallatin river as his own private backyard fly fishing area.

Sop where in Montana do you live?

Bighorn river country. I’m from Alaska and Washington and have only lived here for 8 years. Love the agates and trout fishing but other than the long winters of Alaska I miss it in a way that cannot be measured. I don’t miss one minute of uber liberal Washington. SF of the North.

I can understand why you miss Alaska, I had hoped to one day make it up there. Alas, I am not getting nay younger, and now that I have spinal troubles in my neck I am afraid my days of cold weather climates are over.

Wow, me too. I have Disc degeneration disease and quit my job to start my own businesses 15 years ago because of it. My most damaged ones are 3, 4 and 5 but I framed my life around Independence and not doing all the things that damaged me more. Even the 2 months of true cold we have here are hard but it's where all my kids are.

People still have to want to watch them. Now they just have more choices.

I agree with most of what’s being said here. Romney is RINO and although a better alternative than O, certainly not a champion of our cause. My vote goes Gary Johnson. It’s time to cut our loses and build to a true conservative future.

I went to a gun show today in Indiana, which was attended by huge crowds. But I was disheartened to see that there were no signs urging patrons to vote for Romney, or at least signs stressing how Obama will be bad for our country. I remember in 2008 how many signs were posted throughout the gun show on how Obama would be a disaster for us.

I talked with some of the senior citizen gun owners there and many told me that they could not vote for either Romney or Obama and intended to stay home on election day. The NRA is ‘all in’ for this election but apparently it does not matter to these seniors. I was told such things as: “Romney will tax the middle class. Romney will cut our benefits - All of the usual Obama scare the seniors propaganda talking points, which are working even better now that Obama is using the line about how Romney does not care about the 47 percent.

Sadly, I fear that it does not look good for us voting Obama out office. There will be no going back after he is re-elected.
