Back When ‘Saturday Night Live’ Mocked Muslim Outrage
National Review Online ^ | September 21, 2012 | Jim Geraghty

In light of the continuing Muslim protests and violence in opposition to a YouTube video, it is worth looking back to the first time the United States encountered the reaction of Muslims, at home and abroad, to speech they deem blasphemous, the publication of Salman Rushdie’s The Satanic Verses in 1988 and the reaction in 1989.

This may have been the very first sketch I saw on “Saturday Night Live.” (You may have to endure an Obama ad on Hulu before the sketch starts.)...

They chose sides, as everyone is going to have to.

There’s a line in the sand - you’re with Christ or against Him.

I laughed at this, but I remember one time when I and everyone else at a bookstore had to be evacuated because someone called in a bomb threat to interrupt a book signing by Oliver North.

I'm old enough to remember a skit with guest host Howard Hesseman (WKRP in Cincinnati) and Don Novello (Fr. Guido Sarducci) as two oil sheiks who've moved into a wealthy California neighborhood. As they paint the marble nudes private areas, they say "I think I shall make this one a redhead. I think this one is a brunette."

Pretty tasteless . . . but pretty accurate.

“And one day he was out shootin’ at some Jews and up from the ground came a bubblin’ ooze. Black gold, Saudi Soda”. LOL, now all they do are 3rd rate political imitations.

Come listen to a story ’bout a man named Ahmed
Poor Camel driver barely kept his family fed.
Then one day- he was shootin’ at some Jews
When up through the ground comes a bubblin’ ooze
Oil that is… Saudi soda.... Persian Perrier

Now the first thing ya know, Ahmed’s a millionaire
Kin folk said: Ahmed, Move away from there!
said: Californy is the place that you’d do fair
So the loaded up their camel and they moved to BelAir
swimmin pools…movie stars…...Jews....
The Bel Airabs!
