Get ready for the best feel-good gun story of the month.
Marty Mark Childs, 52, doesn’t have what you’d call a spotless record. A while ago he was caught on a string of burglaries and was thrown in jail for four-and-a-half years. His modus operandi was to sneak into houses while people were out doing yardwork and swipe all their valuables. Childs served his time and was released in May. But old habits die hard, it seems, because he was back snatching purses in no time. But this time, he chose the wrong house.
According to reports, Rebecca Larson, a 56-year-old mother from St Paul, Minnesota, was washing her car on Sunday while her adult daughter, 34-year-old Melissa Hickman, was napping inside the Larson home. Larson went inside her house to grab a few supplies only to find Childs – along with the eight measly dollars he’d grabbed from her purse. So, what did Larson do? Scream? Run for the hills? Nope. She cussed at him and got went into fightin’ mode.
The first words out of her mouth were, “What the hell are you doing in my home?” Then she locked the door and called out for her daughter to get her gun.
Hickman grabbed her pink Taurus Millennium 9mm handgun (which she also has a permit to carry) and ran downstairs to help, but it was kind of pointless. Evidently, this 56-year-old woman was too much for Childs to handle. Larson had already wrestled Childs to the ground and had pinned him with a foot on the back of his neck and a knee in his spine. Hickman then held the gun on Childs as they waited for police to arrive.
Pink gun! Beat up by a mom! Held down by two girls! You can’t make this stuff up, folks.
Childs is currently being held at the Ramsey County jail in lieu of $75,000 bail. The police are adding two more charges of first-degree burglary to his already colorful rap sheet. It looks like Childs will have a chance to say "Hello" to all of his old cell mates. What do you think he's going to tell all of his jailhouse buddies? "I got beat up by a mom and her daughter" doesn't exactly make you look like a tough guy.
The funny thing about the story is that it seems to go against common sense. If you walk in on a burglar and you don't have a gun on you, it's safer to just kiss the eight bucks goodbye and focus on getting to safety rather than fighting the possibly armed thief. Larson, who’s made of tougher stuff than most, clearly isn't the type to back down. “You don’t have to take it and you shouldn’t take it. You should fight back,” Larson said.
Her daughter added, “I actually wasn’t nervous.” The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!

Maybe another Dem Ramsey County judge will let him out of jail so he can vote for Obama in another “historic election”
