So you can be stoned off your mind, blow into the device and drive on your merry way. What good does it do?? Is this the new scarlet letter “A”?
CONVICTED!
These are for people that have already been CONVICTED of DUI. It is part of their legal penalty.
How many strikes should someone get for DUI before the law takes some action against them?
Would you prefer these people convicted of DUI simply be thrown in jail for an extended period of time, because that is the alternative they are facing?
Ping.
Brilliant. /s
Just a hunch.
"Its true that we know that an ignition interlock doesnt detect drug use, but we also know a lot of times theres dual use. Its not just drugs people are using. Sometimes its alcohol with drugs,..."
"The ignition interlock requirement, the court said, is rationally related to the goal of the Legislature in protecting the public from motorists unable to drive safely because of drugs or alcohol."
"In sum, the Legislature is outlawing impaired driving in and of itself, not the method by which one becomes impaired, the court said in an opinion written by Chief Judge Celia Foy Castillo"
These are the brilliant minds of the elite. These people should be eliminated.
$10 says NYC’s Food Nazi Bloom-Turd has those “laws” already drawn-up and will be unleashed, soon.
1) Fill up one or more balloons when you’re sober.
2) Use on of those 12volt tire pumps to blow into the detector.
3) Anyone that knows anything about cars would be able to bypass this thing easily although it probably keeps track of when it has been activated so if you get pulled over and you didn’t blow into this thing, bad things happen.

We have an acquaintance who, some years ago, got herself all spun out on crank (more accurately, continued to be so). At some point along a journey over a remote stretch of highway she got paranoid and convinced herself some mysterious "they" had bugged her car. She pulled off the side of the road and proceeded to rip every wire out of her car that she could.
Cops happened upon her walking down the middle of the highway in a tunnel and they hauled her in for DUI. She had to enter drug rehab (which was ultimately not successful), do community service, get a job, and blow into an interlock for a year.
I don't know what the proper solution is to enforce abstinence on a tweeker but a breathalyzer interlock is a complete waste of time and money.
Maybe the theory is it imposes a form of discipline but that would be just grasping at straws. I am not aware that a reasonably effective treatment for meth addiction has been developed yet, but I'm pretty sure that's not it.
