Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has had a trying week, what with the surfacing of a video in which he appears to dismiss 47 percent of Americans as government freeloaders.
So he was probably looking forward to being among friends at a high-dollar fundraiser in Hillsborough Friday evening. But in the solidly Democratic Bay Area that meant he first had to experience an enthusiastic greeting from about two dozen protesters as his motorcade drove through the wealthy neighborhood where the event was held.
Some of those protesters carried signs reminding him of the video, in which Romney appears to denigrate supporters of President Obama. Others jabbed at his release Friday of his 2011 tax returns.
But that's the price a candidate sometimes has to pay in the quest to finance a campaign: Romney was here for an event at the Strawberry Hill estate, a private home, and tickets ranged from $1,000 to $100,000 per couple. The co-hosts included Hewlett-Packard chief executive officer and 2010 gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman, and former Secretary of State George Shultz and his wife, Charlotte Shultz.

Romney is out there in California, the enemy battleground, raising money — imagine that! But the media wearily puts the obligatory negative spin on it.
With Meg Whitman - likely part of the “War on Women,” eh?
Bias much, Carla?

Hey!!!! I could be a journalist!!!!!
I know its about $$$ but why is Mitt in Communist California. He couldn’t win that state if he divorced his wife, married a man, passed gay marriage, made every illegal legal, and gave every woman who has an abortion 10 extra votes. Mitt its time to get to work. I believe its your second trip to CA in 2 weeks. Is McCain running his campaign?
