For those of you who’ve been living under a mainstream media rock the past ten years, then the following sentences are simply the chorus to a song by the famous rock band R.E.M.
It’s the end of the world as we know it. It’s the end of the world as we know it. It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.
But to those of us with an apocalyptic bent, the chorus to that song takes the form of an acronym. TEOTWAWKI.
And we refer to the acronym on a daily basis, because we truly believe our society is about to crash and burn in the mother of all flame-outs. In fact, most of us are so faithful, we stockpile food, ammo, have alternate potable water sources, nonhybrid seeds, tools, building supplies, force multipliers, and even grow our own food. We must be lunatics in the order of Noah.
Quite frankly, if TEOTWAWKI happens, then I won’t feel fine. I’ll be fine, because I’m prepared. But I won’t feel fine. Well, hold it. Wait a minute. Maybe I will feel fine. Think about it this way; A world without an overbearing federal government. No taxes. No building permits. No ATF. Hunting season year round!
Okay, okay, so that’s the silver lining to the cloud. The cloud being total anarchy in a very, very dangerous world. This year I published the first novel in a four-book series titled The God Virus. It’s about an attack on the power grid bringing about a thousand-year-night and TEOTWAWKI. Next month I’ll be publishing the second novel called The Shadow Militia.
One thing I quickly realized while writing The God Virus was only the tough and the prepared would survive. My family and I have been preparing for over three years now and we enjoy it. It’s a self sufficient way of life hearkening back two hundred years which carries its own reward. Not only does it lower our grocery bill, but it also brings family members closer together. It teaches character, because everyone has to work and pull their own weight. We either grow the food we eat, or we kill it ourselves. Then everyone has to pull together to process the food. Today I canned potatoes. Yesterday I canned pumpkin. On Saturday my six-year-old son and I will shoot a deer. It’s a way of life that bonds us together in a broken and twisted society that seeks to tear the family apart.
So, maybe from that perspective, I will be fine. But the question remains … What will happen to you and the ones you love? That’s the focus of this article. I’m writing to those of you who have yet to start preparing for the end of the world as we know it. TEOTWAWKI is coming. If the present course of human events is not altered, societal collapse is inevitable.
Those of us religiously preparing for societal collapse have a name. We are called “preppers”. And perhaps the most famous of all preppers in human history was a man named Noah. You all know the story. God came to Noah and said, “Hey, Noah! The people in this world really suck! In fact, they suck so bad I’m gonna have to put ‘em down!” Noah listened with great interest, because he was righteous in God’s eyes and he did not suck. “So build a big boat. I know what yer thinkin’, Noah, you live in the desert. But that’s okay, cuz I’m gonna turn the whole place into freakin’ lakefront real quick. And trust me on this one, property values will not go up! I’ll fax ya down the blueprints and you get goin’!””
So what did Noah do? He was obedient to God. He built a boat. (Some might call it a BOB, spelled “Bug Out Boat”.) Per God’s orders, he horded all kinds of food and supplies. Let me paraphrase the list from the good book. He collected lots of animals. Seven pairs of every clean animal, a male and its mate, and one pair of the dirty ones, a male and its mate. Not to mention seven pairs of every kind of bird, male and female. He ordered ammo by the case, bought night vision goggles with extra batteries, solar panels, flak jackets, antibiotics, extra canning jars, lids and rings. Oh, wait. I’m reading from the wrong book now. That last sentence came from the book titled How to Survive the End of the World as we Know It by James Wesley Rawles. It’s like the prepper’s Bible, and you should buy that before doing anything else.
So Noah did everything God told him to do, and he was saved from annihilation. He was the first prepper, and the example I follow today.
Have any of you noticed some similarities in the society just before the flood and the society we have today? I do, and that’s why I prepare. I don’t believe God will tarry with us a whole heck of a lot longer. Because as a society, we are really starting to suck.

My grandparents on both sides, in Arkansas, were preppers or they had no food in the winter/spring. There were no scoffers then as everyone stored or went hungry in the winter and spring before the new crops were ready.
So, when did scoffers start? Wasn't during my parent's times because we still canned - everyone did. They wouldn't have known what “prepper” meant.
When gardens were abandoned for plentiful grocery store food, canning stopped for the most part and people didn't store as before because the grocery store had it.
So, dumping on preppers as nut cases is a relatively new behavior. It's like, “I have nothing stored because the grocery down the road has it, so you must be nuts to waste your time to store items anyone can get anytime.
That is what sets preppers apart from scoffers - we see dangers on all sides that could take us back to the 1800s, where storing meant life or death.
We have life insurance not on a piece of paper as it is from Prudential or other life insurance company. Our life insurance is visible - there it is, I can see it, I know it is there. People who don't have physical life insurance that can be seen, are the nutty ones - not us.
If we are one day banned from employment or commerce for being "bigoted" and refusing to "belong" to the government, maybe the only way to survive would be to hunt and grow our own food.
I was thinking that Sitka Alaska might be a good place to head after the Obama re-election. The climate is somewhat mild and people can fish and hunt for food.
It the location on the pan handle of Alaska would probably be away from the radioactive winds.

Y2K is what made it the object of scorn. We as a nation prepared, worked to prevent any failures from occurring, and none occurred. Rather than being grateful and seeing the widsom of preparation, the scoffers saw it all as a waste of time because nothing noteworthy happened.
It’s been tinfoilt time ever since.
We really have gotten soft as a society. Even the heat doesn't affect us. I slept every hot night this past summer with a heavy blanket on because my wife had the central AC cranked.
I do wonder what would happen if everything was to come crashing down and we truly had a TEOTWAWKI experience. Many postulate that the vast majority of us would assume the fetal position and die a horrible death but I'm not so sure. I think that human beings are very adaptable and by and large, the majority of us will "toughen up" and survive - although without the luxuries we have come to take for granted.
Yes, no doubt millions of us will die, especially those of us who have been extending our lives on modern medicine, such as insulin and blood pressure pills. In addition to prepping, I would suggest that those who are on a steady diet of prescription drugs work with their doctor to get off the prescriptions - maybe adopt a natural diet and exercise more, etc.

Fifty percent of the population has an IQ of 90-110. The lower the IQ, the less people worry because they can't make a connection from one happening affecting another happening. IQs from 90 down will never get it. IQ 105-108-109, can reason enough, 110 up have excellent reasoning power to identify problems and see the world as it really is unless they refuse to, due to some societal conditioning that keeps them from moving forward, keeps them stuck where they are.
The smarter a person is, the more problems they can identify and think through to change the outcome for themselves. Preppers tend to be smarter than those who can't identify problems. So, using a non-scientific, non-psychological term, dumb people are happier than smart people.
It was part of my job when I was a professional counselor, that I oversaw the classrooms for the mentally retarded (intellectually challenged or whatever now). The Down’s Syndrome children (IQ 20-40s), were always happy if they had water, food and a bed. Their world was right there and they were happy. They couldn't comprehend/reason, so they couldn't identify a problem.
So, the smarter you are, the more problems you can identify. Preppers try to manage the severity of these problems so they won't be devastating to the family if conditions occur to bring living problems about.
One more comment. In psychology, we can say a group of like people tend to do “x”. HOWEVER, we cannot predict what an individual person will do. Individuality is just that, individual and every person is an individual.
1. Reasoning power is worthless when the framework of logic is based on faulty premises. (Accepting faulty premises runs rampant among academic elites.)
2. When I’m told that refusing to agree with an opinion (one which is not self evident) categorizes an individual as “dumb,” I become very skeptical of the whole thing.
3. I prefer to ask myself the question: what would motivate an agenda to influence widespread expectation of societal collapse?
If you are saying preppers want to influence others to expect societal collapse, a look at prepper threads and prepper websites indicate they are centered around preppers talking to preppers. If non-preppers post, then they would talk to them.
I have family members who do not prep at all and that is their choice so I don't bring it up.
I don't know of an agenda to bring prepping to the attention of every person in the country - oh, yes I do. FEMA encourages everyone to prepare for an emergency and has a lot of information on their website as to how to do that, so I suppose that would be “an agenda to influence widespread expectation of societal collapse”. They cover a number of emergencies and some of those might bring about “societal collapse” for a time.
Here’s a simple way to analyze this.
1. Who wants societal collapse? Answer: the Marxists.
2. What is a good way to set the stage so that societal collapse can be perpetrated? Answer: get people to think it’s supposed to happen.
Natural disasters happen and Hussein doesn't cause those. Hurricanes come here and I'm prepared for that. There are earthquakes and fires that Hussein doesn't cause.
The economy is almost dead, and yes, Hussein is helping that along. My preps will take care of me if that happens. So, I think that will be Hussein's method of bringing chaos to the whole country.
Fine.
Just remember one thing:
Societal collapse is not supposed to happen.

I’ve been here about 25 years, including a stint just south of Sitka in Ketchikan. Just a few common sense tips about living here:
The climate looks mild on a National Weather Service graph. In actuality, it is freaking brutal, with hurricane-force winds coming up during any month of the year, and rain that you would not believe until you experience it yourself. One night in Ketchikan it rained 11 inches, which was like standing in a old-fashioned shower at full pressure for hours on end. You’ll also need a boat to fish with, and not just a canoe; the ocean, even in protected areas, can be both rough and deadly. Your equipment needs here are far more rigorous than anyplace I’ve lived in the Lower 48. And Southeast, despite the theoretically balminess, is actually one of the worst places in the state to grow food (that is, among the places that can grow food). Where I live now, in the Interior, we can get a fairly large load of veggies for the winter; storage is our problem. Down there in Southeast, it takes twice as long to grow things because of the clouds and cool weather. (Not to mention slugs, root maggots, deer, and general moldy rot.)
In any case, it is tough up here. We try to be prepared, but the truth is that any global cataclysm... hell, any national cataclysm... could send us back not 200 years, but 2,000 years. I’ve actually thought about it. We could probably survive one winter, but I’d have to find a way to hoof the 300 or so miles to the road within a year or face real starvation or worse. In addition, there’s simply not a hell of a lot game up here - at least not like the herds of whitetail deer I’ve seen back East. A season of guys shooting whatever moves, just with the current state population, will make the moose and caribou go extinct. (Just go online and look at the numbers - it isn’t encouraging for feeding everyone everywhere.)
So good luck and God speed - but there really aren’t anyplaces left that are “safe.”

We really have been living the soft life for a very long time here in America.
“Going to war” means getting on a boat and digging foxholes in somebody else’s back yard. “Stocking up on food” means dragging a second cart around the supermarket. (Hell, most folks I know wouldn’t have the least clue how to kill or prepare meat that didn’t come in a foam tray.)
We have safe water, reliable electricity, dependable communications and tons of entertainment options. This is as good as it gets, folks!
And all of it is a house of cards. Nothing is reliable. Things could change in a matter of minutes to make everything a nightmare.
Prepping for every possible problem that could arise is impossible, not to mention ridiculously expensive. But doesn’t it make sense to have a few days extra food on the shelf? Keep a change of clothes in the trunk of your car?
Well then, you’ve already started prepping! Keep it up!

I didn’t realize those numbers. I’ll have to quote them to my mother who doesn’t understand why I don’t have a social life. I don’t consider a social life smiling and listening to morons talk. Nearly everyone in my family qualifies for Mensa. I joined a book club once. They were no doubt relieved I only attended once. The book hit the circular file. I’m a prepper because those who don’t learn from history are bound to repeat it, and it’s common sense. But then I’m over 50 and remember asking what my grandmother’s root cellar was and why she had it. One of the reasons I like FR is because there are intelligent, conservatives to share with.
