Searching old newspapers is one of my favorite pastimes, and I have tried to use them many times to shed light on current events — or to inform readers about how the past is prologue to our very interesting present-day quandaries.

Recently, I came across a syndicated column from November 1979 that seemed to point 30 years into the future toward an obscure campaign issue that arose briefly in the 2008 presidential campaign.

What about those rumored billions of dollars the oil-
rich Arab nations are supposed to unload on American
black leaders and minority institutions? “It’s not just a
rumor. Aid will come from some of the Arab states,” pre-
dicted a black San Francisco lawyer who has close ties to
officials of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting
Countries (OPEC).

“The first indications of Arab help to American blacks
may be announced December,” said Khalid Abdullah
Tariq Al-Mansour, formerly known as Donald Warden, of
the Holmes and Warden law firm.

Al-Mansour is the lawyer who filed a friend-of-the-
court brief in support of OPEC last winter when the Inter-
national Association of Machinists and Aerospace Work-
ers (IAM) field an antitrust suit against the 13 OPEC
countries in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.

The OPEC countries did not answer the price-fixing
charges on the g rounds that a U.S. court did not have ju-
risdiction over a foreign country. However, Al-Mansour
argued for OPEC as chairman of the Concerned Black
Americans in Support of Africa and the Middle East. The
suit was dismissed on Aug. 22.

Al-Mansour, 39, for several years has urged the rich
Arab kingdoms to cultivate stronger ties to America’s
blacks by supporting black businesses and black colleges
and giving financial help to disadvantaged students.

In September, Al-Mansour said, he presented a pro-
posed special aid program to OPEC Secretary-General
Rene Ortiz when he visited OPEC headquarters in Vien-
na. Al-Mansour urged the establishment of a fund that
would provide $20-million per year for 10 years to aid 10,-
000 minority students each year, including blacks, Arabs,
Hispanics, Asians, and native Americans.

“The idea was fully endorsed by Ortiz and other
OPEC administrators,” Al-Mansour said by telephone
from San Francisco last week. He said the decision on his
educational fund will be made by the OPEC ministers
when they meet in Caracas, Venezuela, in December.

I also spoke with a representative of the information
center for the League of Arab Nations in Chicago concern-
ing rumors of “heavy Arab contributions and invest-
ments” in black communities in the wake of Andrew
Young’s resignation as United Nations ambassador this
summer.

“It is quite possible,” an Arab spokesman said. “How-
ever, I don’t think any money will be given to individu-
als.” But he said he also had heard that Moammar Khad-
afy, the leader of Libya, is planning to support black
organizations “or institutions.” The spokesman did not
name any individuals or institutions.

The question of financial aid from the Arabs could
raise a few extremely interesting questions both inside
and outside the black community. If such contributions
are large and sustained, the money angle may become sec-
ondary to the sociology and politics of such an occurrence.

What will be the response in white America to the rec-
ognition that Americans blacks have influential support-
ers in foreign lands?

Several of my media colleagues argue that such mas-
sive support will not come from the Arabs. But suppose it
does? How many black colleges could afford to announce
they are rejecting several million dollars annually in aid
not only to their students but to the tottering colleges
themselves?

And what will happen if those college boards that do
accept Arab aid are threatened with the loss of domestic
support?

Of course, there is another question that focuses on
how the black citizen is viewed by the American majority.
Can the average American live with the thought of blacks
being anything other than helpless — a people without
any other resources than domestic “tolerance” and chari-
ty and their own bootstraps?

I’m not about to hazard a guess as to what the Arabs
are going to do now that they have discovered that blacks
do have an interest in the Middle East. But I strongly sus-
pect their advisers have made it clear that they must do
something to support those rumors.

The new black advocacy of a homeland for the Pales-
tinians and recognition of the Palestine Liberation
Organization (PLO) has put the Arabs as well as certain
black leaders on the spot. Suppose those black leaders
who openly embraced Yasser Arafat suffer extreme short-
ages in financial contributions because of their pro-Arab
stands. And suppose the Arabs do not come to their res-
cue.

Such a failure could cause American blacks to adopt a
slogan made famous by the Jews: “Never Again.”

What's going on is probably money and radical Islamic prostelization. The Saudis have a huge stake in the U.S. not developing its energy resources since they'd lose a vast amount of income and the power that goes with it. The Illegal, by waging jihad (intentionally used, instead of “war,” to show the Illegal’s true sympathies), against our energy industry, supports that need. Having a Mudslime president also, and massively, facilitates the Islamization of the rest of the world on the Saudi model.

Yes, I understand every bit of that (and the "Arabs are bankrolling the environmentalists" claim has been around for a long time). But you left out the most important point. Where does the social/sexual radicalism of the Western Left fit in on islam's plans for a world "theocracy?"

I've said this so many times that I'm sure FReepers are getting tired of it, but it's like old-time professional wrestling. Two angles are running at one time, one against one set of "heels" and another against another set of "heels." Each heel claims to be the greatest of all time. If one heel team is foreign, the American heels never get mad or even notice it. If both heel teams are foreigners but come from different places (each boasting that wherever he comes from is "the best"), then they ignore each others boast and don't get offended. They confine themselves only to their feud with the "faces." The heels never feud among themselves, even though logically they should be feuding among themselves all the time.

One minute we are facing in "angle" where homosexuals are about to destroy religious expression. Conservatives fight back with defenses of religion and attacks on secularism. The next minute we shift to the other "angle," where radical moslems want to impose "theocracy" and outlaw criticisms of religion. Conservatives do a complete 180, suddenly defending enlightenment secularism even to the point of defending homosexuals, and scream bloody murder about how any law muzzling criticism of religion violates the First Amendment.

These two angles go on constantly. Their coexistence makes no sense. Moslems and homosexuals should not be even quasi-allies, yet they are. The homosexuals and moslems advance along each front against their enemies, yet never at any time seem to quarrel with each other.

Does my question make sense now?

Interestingly, Khalid al-Mansour is also tied to GROVER NORQUIST, the GOP muslim outreach man! Conservatives need to concern themselves first with cleaning out these radical islam sympathizers out of their own ranks.

Interestingly, the article you link to calls it "a false and baseless claim." Is there any real connection between al-Mansour and Norquist? Or is it just a wild guilt-by-association claim.

Being the skeptic I am, and knowing how much misinformation there is floating amongst the interwebs, I wanted to follow the links provided in the article, which sent me to a google of the complete original newspaper. Photoshopped it to make it postable. Just thought it was interesting in it's full context and original format.

This column strikes me as a thinly veiled threat to the Arabs to pay up or else. Kind of a Jesse Jackson style shake down. We know who you are...

I am baffled why some enterprising reporter or group hasn’t really gone after Obama’s college records. There must be something there or he wouldn’t have gone to such lengths to keep them under wraps.

Is NO ONE in the media even a little bit curious? Has anyone ever had the temerity to ask him? The most aggressive questioning of him I’ve ever seen was last week by Univision, and that had nothing to do with his background.

Alinsky, you know. Kellman and Kruglick were both trained as community organizers by Alinsky. Kellman hired Obama; Kruglick trained and supervised him. Let's not forget the Midwest Insitute, the academic extension of Alinsky's organization.

And, then, of course, there was William Ayers' daddy, Thomas Ayers, Chairman of Chicago Edison. If not an active member of the network, he was at least an influential "fellow traveler".

Which brings us to Sidley & Austin, the corporate law firm for Chicago Edison. Sidley & Austin hired William Ayers' wife, Bernadine Dohrn -- even though she was barred from practicing law. And they hired Michelle Robinson, who worked closely with Dohrn. And they hired Michelle's husband-to-be, young Barack -- who interned at the firm. I believe the firm has also served David Axelrod's interests.

And let's not forget Axelrod himself -- a member of the same Chicago circle.

All of this is coming into focus -- we have a network composed of white commies and black commies, sustained by Arab money once the Soviet Union stopped writing the checks for infiltration and subversion in the USA.

So now it gets interesting. Obama got his push behind the scenes from an advisor to a Saudi Prince. And not just any Saudi Prince. Prince Al-Walid bin Talal bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud has an estimated net worth of US$29.5 billion, is the 19th richest person in the world, and is the second richest man in royalty next to the Sultan of Brunei.

So this Saudi Prince's advisor somehow or other takes an interest in Obama when Obama is an unknown. Why?

More to the point, would Mansour be likely to spend time and effort giving aid to an apostate from Islam?

One especially interesting tidbit is that Khalid al-Mansour was originally named Donald Warden. As Donald Warden, he mentored Bobby Seale and Huey Newton, founders of the Black Panthers.

In the Congressional Record (page E824, April 23, 2007), Congresswoman Barbara Lee of California intoduced a bill honoring him for his work, and mentioning his prior name and connection to the Panthers:

Throughout its extraordinary history, the Association has been known for promoting equality, diversity, social justice, and African American community empowerment. This year the Association celebrates the 45th anniversary of its founding.

We know that Ayers started Obama's political career, and is very influential in Chicago politics. What hasn't been really examined is HOW and WHY he's influential

The HOW and WHY is his dad Thomas G Ayers (1915-2007). Tom Ayers was President of Commonwealth Edison from 1964, and was chairman and CEO from 1973 to 1980. Besides that:

"He had a great social conscience and believed in breaking down the barriers that confronted so many people, particularly minorities and women," said James O'Connor, who succeeded Mr. Ayers as ComEd chairman. "Beyond what he did at Commonwealth Edison, he really set an example for other leaders in the Chicagoland business community to follow."

Mr. Ayers also served on boards of nonprofit initiatives and chaired those of the Chicago Urban League, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Erikson Institute, Bank Street College of Education in New York, Community Renewal Society and the Chicago Community Trust.

While chairing the Northwestern University Board of Trustees, he helped start Chicago United, dedicated to racial minority group access to jobs and education. The project that made him most proud, son John Ayers said, was Dearborn Park, an integrated South Loop housing project, which he conceived and for which he raised funds.

With his sons deep in protest of the Vietnam War (one, Bill Ayers, was a member of the radical Students for a Democratic Society who went underground for about 11 years) the businessman supported his children and their campaign. "Our father always stood by us," John Ayers said. "He was an establishment guy, but he believed in us. He believed in change."

After the Board of Education's financial collapse of 1979, Mayor Jane M. Byrne named Mr. Ayers as her choice for president of the new board.

Bill Ayers' dad was a primary mover and shaker in Chicago politics, with strong ties to the Daley machine. Besides all the above:

He was the Chicago establishment, serving on the boards of Sears, G.D. Searle, Chicago Pacific Corp., Zenith Corp., Northwest Industries, General Dynamics Corp. of St. Louis, First National Bank of Chicago, the Chicago Cubs and the Tribune Co.

Mr. Ayers also was an agent for change, negotiating between Mayor Richard J. Daley's administration and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s open housing campaign in the mid-1960s, and developing the Leadership Council for Metropolitan Open Communities to fight racial discrimination in housing.

And how exactly was Obama connected up the the Ayers in Chicago? I'm suspecting that his long association with Frank Marshall Davis in Hawaii had a lot to do with his decision to settle in Chicago. Per Davis's wiki entry:

In 1927, Davis moved to Chicago, where he worked variously for the Chicago Evening Bulletin, the Chicago Whip and the Gary American, all African-American newspapers.[5][6] He also wrote free-lance articles and short stories for African-American magazines. It was also during this time that Davis began a serious effort to write poetry, including his first long poem, entitled Chicago’s Congo, Sonata for an Orchestra.

In 1935, Davis moved back to Chicago to take the position of managing editor of the Associated Negro Press[9], a news service for black newspapers, which had begun in 1919. Eventually, Davis was named executive editor for the ANP. He held the position until 1947.

During the Depression, Davis participated in the federal Works Progress Administration Writers' Project. In 1937, he received a Julius Rosenwald Fellowship.[10]

While in Chicago, Davis also started a photography club, worked for numerous political parties, and participated in the League of American Writers. With the encouragement of authors such as Richard Wright and Margaret Walker, Davis published in 1948 his most ambitious collection of poems, entitled 47th Street: Poems, which chronicles the varied life on Chicago's South Side.

Sometime during the period 1943-1945, Davis joined the Communist Party of the United States (CPUSA), although he never publicly admitted his party membership. Davis published pieces in CPUSA-supported publications.[citation needed]

Davis used his newspaper platform to call for integration of the sports world, and he began to engage himself with community organizing efforts, starting a Chicago labor newspaper, The Star, toward the end of World War II. In 1945, he taught one of the first jazz history courses in the United States, at the Abraham Lincoln School[11] in Chicago.

I think Obama chose to move to Chicago to take advantage of the network of connections that Davis still had with the Chicago Left.

Does anybody here doubt that there would be a connection between Davis and Ayers, given the connections between the Communist Party and the Weather Underground, particularly between black radicals like Davis and the Weather Underground coming from the Chicago Eight trial?

Of course, it makes sense that jihadis and the domestic radicals should form an alliance.

The Arab expression is "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." The corresponding communist expression is "the end justifies the means."

The focus of both sides' animus is the US of A. Why wouldn't they cooperate -- against the interests of America?

Long-term, the jihadis doubtless view the left as candidates for beheading practice. The left, naively, views the jihadis as candidates for, at best, conversion or, at worst, employment as useful idiots.

In this context, it is also important to note that, nowadays, the commies are probably less "pro-communist" than they are virulently "anti-American". There is an unmistakable strain of nihilism in today's left.

As you point out, this does leave the religious right in the paradoxical position of appearing to defend the "seculars" against the "theocratics", then turn around and have to line up with the "theocratics" vs the "seculars". It would probably be more appropriate philosophically to simply stand squarely against both sides, without resorting to the defense of either.
