Priebus: GOP ‘Not Going to Play in MO with Todd Akin’ (No RNC Money for Akin)
National Review ^

Posted on 09/23/2012 1:41:37 PM PDT by Windy City Conservative

Reince Priebus expressed optimism this morning that Republicans could win the senate in 2012, but warned that the party would not get behind Todd Akin, even if he refused to exit the race.

“We’re not going to play in Missouri with Todd Akin, I can tell you that,” Priebus said on ABC’s This Week, adding that it remained “to be seen whether he stays in or not.” The last day Akin can legally leave the race is Tuesday.

MO is a very conservative state.

Well, it is except for St. Louis, Kansas City, the surrounding suburbs, and throw in Columbia for good measure. All of that means that Missouri is about evenly divided, but has trended more conservative in recent years. The winner of this race must have independents and a majority of the woman's vote. Akin can't do this, especially when McCaskill starts saturating the StL and KC media markets with adds reminding voters of the dangers of Akin's to women's "reproductive rights". That message will fall on deaf ears among conservatives, and they will largely vote for Akin. But, the critical votes that he needs for a victory will not pull the lever for him.

Conservatives seem to always make the mistake of thinking that conservative voters are sufficient to elect any pure conservative candidate. This is only true in the most red of states. Missouri is not in that category.

The stupid thing is, if the RNC would just shut up about Akin, most folks would probably forget about him, at least, nationally. I don’t know how he’s doing in MO.

What’s a “reproductive right”? You mean the right to have children? Thankfully, we have that right in the U.S.; unlike China where they can only have one child. Is Akin going to take away a woman’s right to have children?

“No, ALL educated people were disgusted with his comments, ....”

You mean like Al Gore or the National Education Association?

I guess you didn't accept his apology and explanation. He made it quite clear that a woman could become pregnant thru forcible rape.

So how grievous is this gaffe versus someone who supports Obamacare and doesn't want it repealed? Obamacare funds abortion regardless of the how the child was impregnated. And we have the Death Panel (IPAB) that will allow 15 unelected bureaucrats to decide what treatment protocols will be allowed and how much will reimbursed to doctors and hospitals.

McCaskill is also pro-choice meaning that she has no problem killing human life up to the ninth month of pregnancy. So who really is the ignorant hillbilly?

No, ALL educated people were disgusted with his comments, and he can apologize , but he meant what he said

...ahhhh, only MORONS are even offended by his remarks. Grow up and figure out how many gallons of leftist Koolaid you are gulping down buying into the lamestream meme. Akin didn’t even say anything offensive in recaping what he had been told/read, and the obviously orchestrated attack was a set up which is an attack on any and all conservatives. Some people never learn that the leftists lie and make stuff up everyday...try not to fall for it next time.

ymmv

“Reproductive Rights” are code words for abortion and birth control. Democrats use this language to convince women to vote against pro life conservative comments. In Akin’s case, they will scare women into believing that Akin and the Republicans will criminalize use of any birth control. It’s an argument that has worked for years.

Didn’t he tell Mark Levin that they were going to finance his candidacy? If so, what a liar!

He did, but I’m not confident that Mark Levin will have the attention span to follow through and be able to call Priebus on it tomorrow. Levin gets cranky about different matters all the time, and when it is all said and done, he defers to his good buddies in the power broker conservative media, National Review. Levin gets his dander up, but he never names names and takes any action to try and forcefully persuade his misguided buddies on the right to get their act together.

Notice how Levin will rip apart Peggy Noonan, Karl Rove, and Bill Kristol, but he always tip toes around the idiotic writings of his buddies Rich Lowry and Ramesh Ponnuru at National Review.

Why don’t you leave the heavy lifting for those of us in Missouri, and stop making defeatist comments?

I wonder if this "Reince Priebus" is the same POS who did this?

The office of Congressman Akin has received threats of rape of his official staff, family and the Congressman himself along with suggestions that individuals should die.”

Think I’ll proudly stand with the toothless hillbillies over some moron who thinks they can “restore” the Hetch Hetchy so the rest of us can pay the price of the resulting idiocy.

It’s an argument that has worked for years, eh? How many years exactly? Did it work anytime before the 1990’s?
