During the push for ObamaCare, MSNBC gave Dr. Nancy Snyderman her own show to promote the cause. The show ended shortly after the passage of the law, but Dr. Nancy's still around, supporting other politicians in their quest for more control over people's lives.
On Morning Joe today, Snyderman celebrated New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, claiming he showed real leadership by imposing a ban on big sodas. Snyderman sniffed off opponents of the law as simply having "bitched about the nanny state."

Today soda’s, tomorrow the bill of rights.

This is leadership? In which direction are we supposed to be going?
Or are we doomed to wander about some vast wasteland for years before somebody finally says, “Enough!”

Ban of “big” sodas reduces economies of scale in purchasing power. Buyers need to buy more quantities of less soda for the same fix.

If I cannot buy a 16oz drink, I see NO law preventing me from buying 2 8oz drinks. If my school days math is correct 2 drinks at 8oz. is the equivalent of a single 160z. er.
If ordered in an eating place, the server who does NOT bring the second drink has just blown his/her tip.
People patronize the place that fulfills their desires. Else why bother going???

When you buy in the larger don’t you get more for less money? If so, aren’t they hurting the poor?
And what about the tax? Here in Ohio you pay a tax on take out. Does New York have a tax on take out. If so, is it more for two smaller drinks then it would be for one big one?

Leading a free people involves presentation of better ideas, arranging an array of disparate data and presenting them as a single cogent argument.

Leading a free people has been confused with having authority over a free people (oxymoron apology)....at least by the author of this article.
The purpose of the exercise, the “American Experiment,” looks for all intents and purposes to be the protection of individual volition, and the free exercise thereof. Anything else comes under the heading of societal authority and must be agreed to by all parties involved, or it is a no-go.
Bloomie acts like a powermad little dweeb (.02, your mileage may vary), who has succeeded in his not so little frog-pond (why is it so much of this drek comes from the cities?).

More generally, if having the government ‘ban’ things is the best way to deal with societal problems, why not just go the whole way?
We could have government”
1. Issue mandatory chastity belts for teenagers to prevent teenage pregnancy.
2. Send troops into gang-invested inner city areas to rid them of this problem.
3. Ban all movies, literature, and music (yes, including hip-hop) that feature violent themes.
4. Make the driving age universally 18 years to avoid car accidents involving young drivers.
5.Make it mandatory that all <18 years old have to wear government defined uniforms, to cut down on crime associated with the theft of fashionable clothing items, such as high-end footwear (e.g. Nike's).
6. Ban any high school or state college sports in which participants ‘could get hurt’.
etc. etc.
No, I'm not advocating any of this...

I’m not sure ‘leadership’ is the sole criteria we should use to evaluate elected officials.
