Curious how this stacks up compared to 2004 and 2008.
This early voting sucks. I can see an absentee ballot for those who have legitimate reasons for not being in their precinct on Election Day (i.e. military duty, business travel) but everybody else should have to show up on the same day as everybody else.
I wonder how many of those Dem absentee voters are dead.
FYI, Cuyahoga county is a black hole, the worst county in the state of Ohio.
Obama won the county 69 to 30 in 2008.
they don’t need absentee ballots to cheat in cuyahoga county. they do it right out in the open on election day. the only places on earth that might have more crroked elections than cuyqahoga county if lake county and st. louis.
That must just be for the day.
There’s no way that Ohio’s biggest county only has 2,400 absentee requests when statewide it is about 740,000.
If so it would mean a landslide :)
why would dems need absentee ballots?

The totals from 8/1/12 to 9/23/12 among all congressional districts is the following:
100,227 Absentee Ballots Requested with the following Party Breakdown.
54,537 Democrats
24,962 Republicans
20,728 Unaffiliated and Minor Parties.
The dead are known for their lousy handwriting.
There is no reason for early voting. If you are going to be out of town on business or in the military, it is pretty easy to get an absentee ballot.
There were 5160 total requests from 9/17-9/23 from Cuyahoga.
I guess I am of a contrary opinion, but I like absentee/early voting. Yes, especially with absentee, there is the possibility of fraud. But fraud existed in Cuyahoga county long before either.
But consider this. People who don’t work, either because they are retired, unemployed or on the dole, have a good 12 hours or so window to vote on election day. All they need is the inclination. For these people, having one day or 10 days to vote probably doesn’t change their participation. It actually takes some forethought to get an absentee ballot, and a good part of this group doesn’t have all that much.
The people who work are the ones most likely to not be able to vote on election day. Whether it be a scheduling conflict, an emergency, being on call, or just having too much to do that day. If you put in an 8 hour day on election day, you maybe have an hour window in the morning to vote, and a couple hours after work. Both those windows can be difficult to make, especially if you don’t work in your voting precinct, and if you do make it to the polls, the lines can be long enough that you have to leave before voting. You never know until you get there.
IMHO, the people we want voting are the people who are working. These voting options make it easier for people with jobs to vote, and that’s a good thing.
Most of the early voting is 8-5 in Cuyahoga county. Two weeks before election day there are extended hours (all the way until 7pm). IIRC, you have to go to the BOE, which is downtown and the neighborhood’s not exactly friendly. Having a bunch of 8-5 early voting days doesn’t exactly help a whole lot if you’re working 8-5.
I started absentee voting when I had to unexpectedly work late due to some equipment failure and missed the election. I have voted absentee ever since and have never missed another. As an added benefit, if I have a question about a candidate, or an issue, I can research it in plenty of time. Sure, you could do all your research ahead of time, but if you missed something, once you get to the polls on election day, you’re SOL.

Try there, put in the dates, what party you want and what dates you want it from and I selected countywide.
Absentee ballots, “early” voting and provisional ballots is where all of the fraud occurs.
Also I don’t think they’ve mailed out all the labels just yet.
I'm the opposite. I think that early voting is great. You don't have to fight a crowd on a single day. And, if we ever had an effective voter ID law, the voter would be verified.
I think that mail/absentee voting is the most susceptible to fraud. With early voting, the requirement for absentee voting can be mostly eliminated. Except for the infirm and the military, there are few people that really need to vote absentee. Most business travelers return home every weekend (I'm one of them), and can vote in person.
However, I admit there is one big problem with early voting: the ability to vote in more than one place. You could vote in NY and again in FL... not that I'm saying that ever happens. :-) But, that could be resolved with a national effort to search for duplicate voters.
I'm loathe to use the Social Security number for yet ANOTHER government program, but it would be a way to easily eliminate duplicates, without false positives. And, the SS Death index would be an effective way to eliminate a lot of reliable Democrats.
