Flight attendant's gun goes off at airport security in Philadelphia

A Republic Airlines flight attendant showed up to work Sunday at Philadelphia International Airport with a loaded gun in her bag that accidentally discharged, US Airways told NBCPhiladelphia.com.

A US Airways spokesperson confirmed that the employee headed through airport security at Terminal C around 6:50 a.m ET with a gun inside her carry-on bag.

A police officer was called over to check out the gun. That's when it accidentally discharged, the spokesperson said.

The bullet went into a TSA break room where an employee was sitting. No one was injured, police said.

The flight attendant allegedly told police that she forgot the gun was in her bag. Philadelphia Police said she had a legal permit to carry the gun.

The attendant is an employee of Republic Airlines, a small regional partner carrier who operates flights through US Airways.

The woman received a summary citation for disorderly conduct, was taken into custody and released, according to Philadelphia Police Lieutenant Ray Evers.

The plane was heading to Dallas, Texas. Another flight attendant was brought on board and the scheduled flight arrived on time, according the spokesperson.

The name of the flight attendant was not been released.

Cop fires her revolver into the wall and SHE is charged with disorderly conduct!! Any cop that cannot figure out how to open a revolver and dump out the ammo is severly lacking in basic skillz. What an idiot. Only way that gun fires is by pulling the trigger - a long heavy DAO trigger.

I agree 100% with the Glock comment. I am a big fan of the Bersa Thunder .380 and have both the standard and the CC version that I carry exclusively because of the fact that it is DA/SA with a safety and decocker. I want a tough first trigger pull in the event that I need to use this piece in a self defense situation. It allows for a good amount of resistance to avoid unexpected discharge.

All she got was a slap on the wrist? That’s ridiculous. I once went through security with a couple .22s left in my bag from the range a couple days before. Got a $250 fine for it from the TSA. Really makes me want to do stuff to TSA offices or something.

Five will get you ten it was a Glock. No safety. Not good weapon for a handbag. I would have gone with a Bersa 380. It has a safety and a decocker. Even a cop can handle one safely

I agree 100%. I had a G19 for the hell of it. Sold it 6 weeks later. I only buy Sigs, HKs and 1911s now.

The report I heard on the radio this morning claimed that the gun discharged as the police officer was attempting to unload it.

With a cop handling it, the bullet should have hit the floor, never going through a cafeteria!
