Kevin McClatchy, the former owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates, has an announcement: Hes gay.
After years of soul searching and hiding his sexuality, McClatchy, now 49, came out to the New York Times.
In the interview, McClatchy, who was the public face of the Pirates for 11 years, said that he felt obligated to go public.
Ive spent 30 years or whatever the number is specifically not talking about my personal life, lying about my personal life, he said. Theres no way I want to go into the rest of my existence and ever have to hide my personal life again.

And the rest of us will spend another 30 years of our lives not talking about our social lives.
Who cares? I don’t run up and down the street and call press conferences to announce my heterosexuality. For Pete’s sake, can’t we catch a break from this incessant agenda?
the “pirates”?! the jokes write themselves...
Its none of our business what they do in their bedrooms so why the hell do they have to tell us.
It will come to surprise those in this particular victim class that I frankly don’t give a damn about their sex life.
Comes out of what?
yech keep away from me, God only knows where his hands have been
I really don’t think it matters to anyone. He’s not that attractive.
Okay, I’ll say it....BUTT PIRATE!
Pitcher or catcher?
[I don’t really want to know. The joke was there.]
You know you want him.
The world's going to hell and this is all abc news can come up with?
brings up an interesting issue with sexual harassment suits and the locker room when the owner visited.
Their sex life is their life. And, all of us need to hear about it. I used to not care at all about gay people. They lived their lives, I lived mine.
Now, they are constantly in my face, which means I have to think about them and decide what I think about them. Well, I don't like them; I consider them bullies.
this is a distraction in order to have conservatives and voters talk about ANYTHING else.
I’ve never stated it publicly before, but today I’m coming out as a heterosexual man! Anyone else want to join me in this act of courage?
Gay History month has a new item: gay owners produce horrible baseball teams.
I see he came out to a like minded audience in the nest of homosexuals known as the New York Times.
Who cares why do I have to know go away and be happy and leave me alone.
I am SO proud of you and slumber1, what brave and courageous people you are! Especially knowing how you will be attacked and ridiculed for this!
You’ve inspired me... I’m a heterosexual woman! How liberating! I’m straight, I’m straight, I’m straight! I will now start every conversation letting people know I am straight! Woohoo!!!
I’m still scared to call and tell my mother...I don’t know what she will think if I call and tell her this.
I think I will save it for the Thanksgiving family gathering, I will announce it to the WHOLE family!
Well, we know what kind of “pirate” he is, anyway.
If you want on/off the PA Ping List, please freepmail me. Thanks!
I tried to find another S. Clay Wilson pirate that would be safe to post here....but I failed.
And you could have gone another 30, Sparky, and nobody would have cared. I forget who said but it's been observed this used to be "the love that dare not speak its name", but now it's the love which just won't shut up.
So there is a homosexual millionaire baseball owner.
Marge Schott was a cranky old woman....and George Steinbrenner was a hard ass who liked his scotch.
Neither one of them told us how they liked their sex. Nobody cared. The same principle applies here.
I could easily lived the rest of my life without this information and been happy.
Why can't 'the love that can't speak it's name' just STFU? Oh, that's right, because it's a narcissistic personality disorder, it's all about them.
” ‘news’ you can’t use”
Is this the pirate who visited the White Hut recently?
His next announcement will be about a pee wee baseball team he is starting to use his experience and knowledge for the children
Ahay Matey! Prepare to be boarded! Fabulous!
You’re a very brave woman! Congratulations!!
