Writer Catherine Poe is correct in saying GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney used fighting words when he recently called DREAMers illegal aliens (DREAM Act: Mitt Romney still calls DREAMers illegal aliens at Univisions Latino Forum, Web, Thursday). More importantly, Mr. Romneys words are dangerous and illustrate how out of touch he is with the immigrant community. How can someone claim to advocate for a permanent solution to fix our broken immigration system when he dehumanizes immigrants within the same breath?
Mr. Romney must drop the I-word. Why? The I-word, short for illegal alien, illegal immigrant and like harmful terms, is a racially charged slur used to strip immigrants of their humanity.

Illegal does not dehumanize it identifies.
They would prefer ‘invaders’ instead?
OK. Law breaking immigrant. Criminal immigrant.
What else can you call someone who snuck into the country illegally.
These bleeding heart Journalists are so full of shiite.
Dehumanize?? Words having to do with law and citizenship apply ONLY TO humans!
Assuming there are 30 million illegals in America, that’s enough to create some 50 congressional districts and they don’t even need to vote to do it. If they do vote, you can pretty much count on those districts being almost exclusively democrat. As it is we don’t know how many districts exist almost wholly due to the presence of illegals.
The costs of administering a single district must run into the millions. How much pork can a district seek? How many earmarks? What will all those new democrat congressmen vote for?
If you think Obamacare is bad, you haven’t seen squat. Wait till the day all those democrats start dictating how many cars a family can have, what job you can have, or where you can live. Wait till they dictate that all paychecks come from government and you get a small cut of what is left over.
Illegals are nothing but government growth hormone and amnesty today is nothing short of treason.
“Undocumented” sounds so much better. The term suggests that there’s just a paperwork problem. No biggie.
How about criminals?
In like fashion a drug dealer can be an “undocumented pharmicist”.
Mr. Honda, I suggest you quickly make an appointment with a proctologist to have your head examined.
If you don’t like the word “illegal immigrant” we could substitute “intruder”.
Identifying them for what they are in no way detracts from them as human beings. They may be perfectly fine human beings but they are uninvited and hence the term “illegal”.
Illegal immigrants can be from anywhere.
They need to go back there.
This is from the Washington TIMES?
Man, they’ve gone totally progressive too?
Ugg.... just ugg.
Then don’t become an illegal. Problem solved.
I got a ticket a while back for an “Illegal Lane Change”,now I’m pissed,I feel dehumanized,I’m thinking about suing!
Lets play along and humanize them.
“Humans from another country in this country illegally, committing illegal acts by their very presence.”
There. All nice and human.
If they don’t like it, they we default to “Illegal Alien”. Same thing, less verbage.
Is entering the country illegally a felony? If not, it should be. Then we could just call them felons. And it would be the truth.
If “illegal” hurts their feelings, perhaps they will leave, and go someplace where they are legal.
First time it is a misdemeanor. Returning after being deported is a felony.
