Paul Ryan says reversal of DADT repeal is step in wrong direction

MIAMI -- One year after the repeal of the "don't ask, don't tell" policy that barred openly gay and lesbian service members from serving in the military, U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) said in an interview with WPTV NewsChannel 5 that the controversial policy should not be reinstated.

"Now that it's done, we should not reverse it," Ryan told WPTV NewsChannel 5 during a visit to Miami. "I think that would be a step in the wrong direction because people have already disclosed themselves."

Ryan was one of 160 Republicans and 15 Democrats in the House of Representatives to vote against the repeal of "don't ask, don't tell" in 2010.

"I talked to a lot of good friends of mine who are combat leaders in the theater and they just didn't think the timing of this was right to do this when our troops were in the middle of harm's way in combat," Ryan said. "I think this issue is past us. It's done. And, I think we need to move on."

The comment came after progressive groups criticized Ryan, the candidate for vice president, for an appearance at the 2012 Values Voters Summit and accused him of being "out of step" with the views of young Americans.

That would be like throwing all the Islamofascists out of the State Dept after they are all nice and cozy.

The best we can probably hope for is Romney gets the economy pointed in the right direction.
Thats not quite the same as reforming and restoring America to its former greatness.
I hope I am wrong but junk like this isn’t very encouraging.

“If Obama wins the election, we’ll all see a rollback on homosexual ‘rights’ and feminism such as won’t be believed as his Islamism kicks in.”

******

Fat chance of that. Obama can’t even dig up a real girlfriend from the past. He’s got the wookie as his beard.

That’s a good point, DixieChick. To me, this has never been a question about whether homosexuals belong in the U.S. military. As far as I’m concerned, the bigger question is whether right-thinking, God-fearing people belong in the U.S. military. With the overt politicization of the military and its role as an armed force that is used to impose our secular culture around the world, I believe it’s long past the time for people with religious inclinations to get the hell out.

Military commanders aren’t making the decision - politicized generals are.

Exactly. If they aren’t going to repeal, adopt a policy of “Now that you are out, don’t act out, or you will be put out.”

Usually Republicans cave in AFTER they are elected, now they cave in pre election. More efficient that way.

I can’t believe any of you thought it would go down any other way. Once Obama pulled the plug on DADT, that was it. There’s no going back. Homosexuals are far too politically powerful to entertain such a notion.

“Conservative Strategist” have all said this during my lifetime and all I see is that government has expanded to obscene levels with cultural Marxism running wild throughout our Public institutions/Executive Branch Departments.

By the way, this has increased under those “conservative strategist’s” public servants who do win the popularity contests. When is one of your guys going to take a stand on liberty and not molding government in a moderate image of bloated bureaucracies? Why are dems making HUGE gains in their platform but Repubs play the cautious wimp when assuming power?

How did they get that way, lol? You mean they are grafted with Republicans? Why do dems manage to tilt the culture? Like I said up thread, Who Dares Wins. All it takes is some politician with brass balls to push the Repub platform, but “it's too suicidal”. Give me a break, dems push why can't Repubs push back? Don't give me this ingrained crap, Clinton fired AGs on his first several days and slammed his fist hard when shaping his government. Repubs are just too scared to emulate the reach in instituting the official Party platform. It's lack of will, not political boogeymen.

I agree. Some people are pre-disposed to negative thinking, at every turn. We mortals do not have crystal balls to tell us the future. It is for us to stay focused, keep our eyes on the prize and do everything humanly possible to win this war in November. Negative talk, thought distracts us from from our goals.

I’ve been sad for a few years, too. In the end, I am grateful I was able to grow up in an America that was still America, but sad that my children and their children will never get to see that America. Oh well. All you can do is grieve a little and get it out of your system, then get to work protecting your family and your property from the government and the selfish cretins who elect it. Think of it as a happy challenge! (/Bob Ross)
