Occupy’s planned return stirs political unease
Boston Herald ^ | 9/25/12 | Dave Wedge and Christine McConville

Mayor Thomas M. Menino is vowing to block occupiers from digging in again at Dewey Square, setting up a potential high-profile showdown that could cause waves for Elizabeth Warren at a pivotal moment in her race to unseat U.S. Sen. Scott Brown.

“We’re not going to allow them to set up camp at Dewey Square,” the mayor told the Herald last night. “Occupy Boston can express themselves. But we’re not going to tolerate them blocking traffic or setting up encampments in the city of Boston.”

Last year, the city allowed demonstrators to camp in Dewey Square for months, despite having no permits, plus reports of assaults, drug busts and thefts. While the mayor pledged to block them, some occupiers said they’re returning Sunday to mark the movement’s 1 year anniversary.

“I guarantee I will be there with my tent,” said Cambridge computer scientist Bil Lewis. “I will do everything I can do to bring attention to what matters. And that’s the need for fundamental fairness and justice in society, and the idea that rich people ought to be paying the same taxes that we do.”

The potential standoff comes just days after Menino threw his support behind Warren, who has boasted of laying the “intellectual foundation” for the Occupy movement.

Former City Councilor Paul Scapicchio, an attorney, said another prolonged encampment and battle with the city could be “worrisome” for Warren.

“I’m not sure that’s helpful for Warren,” Scapicchio said. “I don’t think (demonstrators) engendered a lot of positive feedback from the electorate last time.”

But Dartmouth College political science professor Joseph Bafumi predicted a revived Occupy Boston effort would be short-lived and have little impact.

“It probably won’t grow to the extent it did last time,” Bafumi said. “It’s probably not going to be a big enough deal to impact how people vote in this race.”

A Warren spokeswoman declined to comment while a Brown aide blasted Warren for “creating the radical Occupy movement that wreaked havoc for months and has already cost Boston taxpayers $1.4 million.”

While Occupy claims no political party, Lewis said he intends to push the agendas of President Obama and Warren.

“I hope that it really brings out the fundamental issues of unfairness, which Warren is also bringing up,” he said. “I like what she’s saying. I think she’s a good person.”

Why don’t they go to Cambridge and hang out in Lady Cherokee’s yard.

I pray to God that Ed Davis has doubled up on his pepper spray order this week.

I hope Mumbles has the cajones to deal with these clowns.

—How the Mayor once again shows his political BS in the nose of The People all NOW to protect ‘Liz’...How hypocritical...Isn’t about time to take back your state and country Boston?
To any Occupy members...
For your information.... The left, cannot wait to attack the poster child of the Evil Republicans, and Corporations such as the Koch Brothers at every chance they find...yet according to Politico, they are for Gay marriage and Abortion rights...does that sound GOP and Conservative based to you? Would you think maybe they are more Libertarian you think or is Politico all wrong?
Yet through all this George Soros is Wonderful...Go Figure.

—Mumbles....you flip-floppah. Last year, the Occupiers were welcome...but now that their presence threatens Lieawatha’s already-doomed run for Senate, they can’t camp out?
—Let\’s see... Menino has now endorsed Warren\’s candidacy... she\’s the self-declared intellectual foundation for the Occupy movement... shouldn\’t Menino be whole-heartedly supporting the return of the Occupiers so they can show the world how much better it can be if we\’d only elect her?

Watch the Movie “Occupy Unmasked” produced by Andrew Breitbart - Citizens United …
occupyunmasked.com

And while you watch it — remember that Lizzy aka “Liawatha” — self proclaimed here “patrimony” for the Occupyers — swhe provided the cover for the domestic terrorists, anarchists, and uniion thugs who did their worst to us

” Warren has said, “I created much of the intellectual foundation for what they do,”

Will they wear bandana’s over their faces?

Oh I love when they wear bandana’s over their faces. It’s, it’s, ummmmmm just so 3rd world!!

Bandana’s everyone, make sure to bring your bandana’s!!!

All Mumbles will need to keep the occupiers off the greenway is a few thousand bars of Ivory Soap & a couple dozen fire hoses. These grimy, grubby, filthy, smelly, layabout loser anarchists are allergic to soap & water. Just like their intellectual mentor, Lieawatha Warren, who scurries away like a cockroach when a light is shined upon her.

“While Occupy claims no political party, Lewis said he intends to push the agendas of President Obama and Warren.”

Tell me...what is that agenda? That life is unfair so you should be handed and education, a job and a home? Is that the agenda?

“Tuition is too High. I can’t find a job. I’ll never be able to afford a house so HAND IT ALL TO ME”

These people will again cover their faces, lie about their backgorunds and will embarrass themselves again.

Stop complaining about success. Earn your own living and contribute to Society.

HERALD EDITORIAL: They’re baaaaaaack. Or at least they’re threatening to come back. Yes, the Occupiers — who over a period of 2 1⁄2 months last year managed to trash a portion of the Rose Kennedy Greenway and turn it into a virtual open sewer — want to gather for a “reunion,” they told Herald reporter Christine McConville. They’ve set “S30” — that would be Sept. 30 for those not familiar with Occupy-speak — for an attempted resurrection of one of the most pointless protest movements ever invented by this gaggle of students, aging refugees from the ’60s and other get-a-lifers. “We’ve got our tents in a secret storage space,” said Bil Lewis of Cambridge (where else?), leader of a band of Occupy die-hards. “All of our logistics stuff is somewhere else and we’re prepared to take it out and get settled.” Oh, we can hardly wait. We’ve missed the stench of bottles of urine in the morning. We’ve missed the public health hazard of dozens of people being fed in open soup kitchens. We’ve missed the utter destruction of grass and trees on the Greenway that cost the taxpayers several hundred thousand dollars to replace. And, of course, we really, really miss the police overtime bill for patrolling their stupid marches, keeping them from bollixing up rush hour traffic and keeping them from wrecking havoc on each other. Yes, it was such a happy time. And all for what? What was it the Occupy Movement accomplished exactly? What was their message? Oh, that’s right. They didn’t have any — or couldn’t agree on any. It was as Boston College professor Marc Landry called it, “the most overrated political movement” of our lifetime. We can only hope that this time our public officials — the mayor especially — and the often hapless head of the Greenway Conservancy (who for too long served as an enabler of the 2011 Occupiers) will halt this planned trespass before it has a chance to do any more damage.

All this occupy gunk would be nothing except for the news media pimping it.

Yup!
btw there are still Occupy facebook pages set up, etc. and on the one for Occupy Boston someone linked to a Huffington Post article (a site set up in part by Breitbart btw, from when Arianna was in the GOP camp?) saying that hey Occupy didn’t really do anything, what now. Several comments said Occupy was alive and well, that it did accomplish something, and one said something like the “47 per cent should become the 100 per cent”. In other words EVERYBODY in the US should get cool stuff from the government.

It was also noted the Occupy anniversary coincides with the release of iPhone 5...big lines, big sales. Hey Occupiers! Be sure to protest big business by tweeting pix on
Facebook on your iPhone. You Occupiers hate big business, are you ready to give up your car? Your big screen TV, computer, smartyphone, chain restaurants, chain movie theaters with lefty films that fail (and some conservative documentaries, like 2016 and we hope Occupy Unmasked, that succeed? I know I’m going to Atlas Shrugged p 2 when it comes out on 10/12...and yes I saw Eastwood in Trouble With the Curve! He doesn’t talk to an empty chair, he kicks it)

I guess that's why she needs to call herself a special minority so she can be treated more fairly than others that are not part of the special minority group. It's just so unfair without special treatment.

The 99% occupiers are all part of special minority groups too. Just ask them.

The main concern is: the boys at the New York Times aren’t sure what part of the Occupy butt they’re suppose to plant their lips on...

Recently, Obama said, "Most important is you can’t change Washington from inside, only from the outside." So what was Obama's answer to getting change? It was, "mobilizing the American people.”

Obama was referring to the Occupy movement.
