Cardinal Dolan Slams Giving Morning After Pills to 14-Year-Olds
Life News ^ | September 25, 2012 | Steven Ertelt

Posted on 09/25/2012 2:08:24 PM PDT by NYer

Cardinal Dolan, the head of the U.S Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Archdiocese of New York, is slamming a program that will give morning after pills to girls in NYC schools as young as 14-years-old.

The New York City Department of Education is furnishing morning-after pills and other birth control drugs to students at 13 city high schools and without parental permission. School nurses supplied with the drugs, which can cause a very early abortion, are dispensing “Plan B” and other oral or injectable birth control to girls as young as 14 without telling their parents — unless the parents opt out of the program after receiving a school letter informing them of the new policy.

In a blog post titled, “Tragic and Misguided,” Dolan pans the idea.

The public schools of the City of New York have announced that they are providing so-called “emergency contraception” and long-term contraceptive injections to high school students as young as 14 years old. This policy of dispensing of powerful medicines to young women — without their parents’ knowledge and consent — is tragic and misguided.

Parents have the right and the responsibility to be the first and primary educators of their children. This plan usurps that role, and allows the public school system to substitute its beliefs and values for those of the parents. It also places minors at risk, because no school system can be expected to know all the pertinent health information about their son or daughter, and be able to properly judge what is in their best interests. Requiring parents to “opt-out” of the program is hardly adequate, either. In New York State in recent weeks, laudable legislation has been passed and signed into law requiring explicit consent from parents if a child wants to get a piercing or a tattoo. We now also have a law on the books banning minors from using tanning salons even if the parents consent, out of concern for possible long term health risks. And, for every other medical procedure, explicit, informed consent is required. But not when these powerful drugs – with their potentially serious side effects – are involved. Then we let these young teens do what they want, without a word to their parents.

“...I just read that the catholic vote is + 15 for Obama. ...”

Like I said; we’re compromised. Pretty badly.

” I’d take the consequences.

If half the congregation got up and walked out, then I’d say to those remaining “Now you know who your neighbors really are, and what they really believe in.”

This would, of course put you in the minority.

Yep, Catholics and Jews, two really brilliant sets of people when it comes to voting. I guess you could toss Blacks in there too, as abused as they are by the Left, and yet they keep right on voting for the folks supporting policies that even see them destroyed before they’re born.

I guess that makes us pretty high and mighty, but the populace at large voted this turd into the White House.

We should all be hanging our heads...

RE :”Obama has declared war on christians in general, and catholics in particular. I just read that the catholic vote is + 15 for Obama. Mind boggling doesn’t begin to describe this.

That is what I was getting at.
How many who call themselves Catholics (baptized as Catholics) want that ‘free’ Birth control for themselves and for others and dont give a crap if their church objects to being forced to being involved in it?
And they agree with the Church on taxes and handouts being moral?

Want to win? Here

Instead the R party acts like a undisciplined gang of individuals who stumble around and look like fools, like the partner that always gets slapped around in the comedy team.

The MSM has already declared Obama the winner. They are in for a shock, methinks.

I’m used to it.

Doesn’t faze me, brother. Ive lost “friends” and acquaintances over the years because I’m an unrepentant Patriot.

I consider those folks “sunshine patriots” and not worth worrying about any longer.

I think the main problem is a split party...the GOPe, and the conservatives. Our party is splintered like never before.

I’d rather be on the right side of things than go with the crowd just because something is “uncomfortable”.

They won’t.

They’ll be busy ratting you out to Thugzilla, or screaming in terror as their houses are broken into, their stuff ransacked, and their families terrorized by choose-any-category of aggrieved, angry victim groups that happen to be partying at that time.

Either way, you’ll be pre-occupied, brother, as we will all will be.

Either on the defense...or on offense.

The Catholic Church wants Christian Socialism.

They are very open about it. Have been for decades. My mother in law talks about it often.

RE :”I think the main problem is a split party...the GOPe, and the conservatives. Our party is splintered like never before.

...With no commonly accepted leader.
If the objective is to be in the minority outside of the WH and just block things , as 2009 to 2010, it works pretty good. In fact Dems approval tanked.

But if the goal is to get the voters to put your party in charge and the other in the minority because they think you can run things then it doesnt work so well.

Also this party has this strange ritual of nominating these lib/mod establishment candidates (Romney/McCain) after they spend months making believe they are someone else. Another feature of the fractured party.

If I recall in past cases, schools were prohibited from even dispensing aspirin without parental approval or a prescription.

If the schools handed out an aspirin to be placed between the girl’s knees, they wouldn’t need a morning after pill.

SIECUS (planned parenthood’s sex positive sex education arm) is decidedly anti-abstinence because they are decidedly PRO-sexually active teens (and under).

It is an evil agenda that circumvents age of consent laws and laws against corrupting minors.

What they are pushing for, is a no lose for them.

1. Obama wins because of the subterfuge
2. They’ve laid the ground-work for people to think they’ve been robbed, when Obama gets trounced.

Either way the Left sees it as a victory for them. They can game either eventuality for the next four years, keeping Lefties stewing in their own juices.

That’s why I think it’s imperative that the right makes a massive stink out of the deceit of the DNCp after the election.

We MUST put them on notice for what they’ve been doing.

I’m talking pickets, massive crowds, and letting them know we are sick of it. We should even pick a major network, and give it hell until it’s on it’s knees.

How in the world can these school nurses be legally allowed to prescribe birth control medications? Doesn’t that need to be done by an MD, and don’t these girls need to have a physical exam before they are put on any sort of birth control? I understand that Plan B is an abortifacient drug that is not “preventative” in any way, but what is the injection they are discussing? As far as I know the injection form of birth control (Depo-Provera) requires a prescription.

Even though I am a Catholic and I agree with Cardinal Dolan that they should be promoting abstinence the broader issue that has no connection with my religious beliefs are the health issues these young women could have in regards to being prescribed medications that may harm them in the future, or may provide a false sense of security (not all bc pills work the same for all people). I don’t understand how fear of teen pregnancy can lead people to advocating these protocols which do more to endanger the lives and future fertility of these children than anything else. I don’t understand how parents can agree to give control of their children’s education, nutrition, and health decisions over to government schools either, so I guess that’s why none of this makes any sense to me...

I’m still trying to figure out how liberals parse “keep your laws off my body” with support of “Obamacare” in the broad sense - much less these individual issue concerns. It’s all insanity to me.

This must be opposed, but liberals could argue the Catholic church affirms that infant even of non-Catholic parents may be baptized if in danger of death even if the parents are opposed to it.

Why not mention the graver reason for giving abortion pills, that it is murder, even though that stance is known.
