The New Oxford High School Marching bands show will no longer be called St. Petersburg: 1917″ and the performance will no longer include the hammers and sickles, according to a statement from Rebecca Harbaugh, the superintendent for the Conewago Valley School District.

Next year it will be the Swastika and Berlin 1933. I don’t think so.
LOL...they don’t even do this in Russia any more. What genius thought this was a good idea?
So they changed it to “Red Guards on the March”?
WTF is wrong with people. Total idiots who glamourize communism, Islam, and any other ism that seeks to kill and destory.
America = Fantasy Nation
Or maybe they did and these Putzes simply approve and want to bring that here to their "Class Enemies"
Really makes you wonder how many “Scholars” with useless
Liberal arts - Edu degrees thought celebrating Marxism was a neat idea?
That’s what I would like to know. Apparently “who” doesn’t matter when it comes to hammers and sickles.
Why am I not shocked?
All of them.
“The classes and races to weak to master the new conditions of life, must give way.’ ‘They must perish in the revolutionary holocaust’.
And they say the Right is scary!??
This upsets my 90+yo German mother no end!
If you are in a hurry look at 2:15, 4:15, and 7:15. Prepare to be amazed that this was at a public school. The Cleburne Texas high marching band. This Jesus themed act from a small town won state in the late 80s. Today our government would immediately assault this school with ruinous litigation.
Look at this and ponder how much freedom we have lost.
A halftime show dedicated to Che will replace it.
Good lord, what is WRONG with people? The hammer and sickle is a symbol of oppression, murder, genocide and the full sum of human misery. The evil it represents is as at least as vile as the Nazi swastika.
I guess it’s not too surprising when the teachers are probably some of the same idiots who think Che Guevara was a hero.
do they even know the significance.. this is sad
Aside from the utter impropriety of this... that has got to be the lamest excuse for a sickle I’ve ever seen. It’s not like it’s hard to Google a proper hammer & sickle emblem to copy. Was this the ‘special’ class?
Thank good this could NEVER happen at my ‘wonderful’ public school. The people there are so upstanding, such great members of the community. No, they would NEVER have a Leftist thought in their bones.
Nope, never. Only in those other, big, bad, schools. Never, in my local school, nope never...
They figured the 1812 Overture was received so well and thought the 1917 Revolution was an update....
Teachers probably don’t know the difference anyway...
Let me have this idiot who thought this was “ A GOOD IDEA.”
I lived in the refugee camps after VN. I know about a couple hundred thousand Vietnamese and Cambodians, (especially the Cambodians) who would LOVE to surround this idiot, and RE-EDUCATE them. Physically.
Hell, I’ll settle for about 5 Cambodians I still keep in contact with. They would LOVE to have a sit down with the moronic, stupid, idiot who thought this display was “A GOOD IDEA.”
Hey, didn’t Jewish quartets play great music while Jews were herded off to the “showers?” Maybe these gullible fools could do a rendition of that!
The knuckle dragging thugs in the teacher’s union are really stupid. And by that, I mean ALL teachers in the public schoolz.
I thought the same thing. Short-bus Socialists!
The “terrible Ivans” would be a good name for a football team.
Was Barry invited to lead the Band?
Well it seems that Mao’s Long March has just about reached the end of the trail.
There's your answer right there.
In this age of iphone and texting everyone knows everything and no one knows anything.
What they are doing in Russia on national holidays is turning out & marching in the pre-1917 uniforms of the Imperial Russian Army, with double-eagle emblems and Orthodox crosses.
What if these kids had turned out in traditional Russian garb with no red stars or hammer & sickles? Sang Russian folk songs & performed peasant dances?
Where they really pushed to display communist symbols at the behest of their ideologically inclined teachers? If so, said teachers need to be fired for child abuse.
Celebrating other cultures is fine if the goal is not brainwashing. Now.....we’ve seen Islamic observances where non-Muslim students were required to adopt Muslim names with male & female students kept segregated. Way different.
They’re sorry? Doesn’t anyone research anything anymore before committing time, money and effort to it? This was a skool with teechers an stuff, right?
Don't know but I'll give odds to anyone that it was an Obama supporter.
FRiend, you have expoerience that would be a nightmare for any of us.
I seriously ask you to write a letter to this school to be to the teachers and band directors and band members about your view of this situation.
Then some real learning can occur.
Symbols mean something, especially symbols that wind up helping to kill 100 million people worldwide, and enslaving countless millions more for over seven decades.
More retarded Attention Whores. Oh, look at our bad a$$e$. We be so bad.
My post 31 to you was supposed to say “letter be read to”.
The Children of a failed system giving honor to the Mother of all failed systems.. yep, thats it!
They don’t teach real history in schools anymore.
Oh come on, they were just celebrating the memorable great music of the Communist Revolution. I mean, even Time-Life put out a series of albums, Music of the Russian Revolution. Don’t you remember? I have volumes 1-22 myself.
Okay, seriously, the Soviets made Prokofiev apologise for his music. What an awesome thing to celebrate, not.
I hope that there aren’t too many members of the radical right in Pennsylvania with paintball guns, and I really really hope that there isn’t a sudden run on the stores in Pennsylvania clearing the shelves of all paintballs in the color red. Especially when I think about how hard those union members work everyday, to keep that school looking clean and those band buses looking shiny. ;^)
one thos articles that have you scratching your head- and thinking WTF
But the schools superintendent Rebecca Harbaugh insists the performance was not an endorsement of communism. According to the school official it was a representation of the time period in history called St. Petersburg 1917, and she is very sorry it was interpreted as anything other than a history lesson.
That was amazing and I was crying by the end :-) It must have been immensely powerful to see in person and what a tragedy that it won’t ever happen again.....
Again, thank you so much for sharing the link!
