Republican Senator Chuck Grassley says U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has given a seriously flawed response to the failure of the so-called Fast and Furious gun-tracking scheme.
There are no more excuses for inaction, Grassley said today in remarks on the Senate floor (watch the 19-minute video of Grassleys speech here).
Federal agents in Arizona hoped to build a gun-smuggling case by letting suspects they believed were working for Mexican drug cartels to buy weapons in the U.S. and walk the guns into Mexico, but the agents lost track of most of the guns.
Senior officials in both the Justice Department and the ATF knew or should have known that Operation Fast and Furious was putting guns in the hands of criminals, Grassley said. But they ignored the risk and failed to take steps to protect the public safety.
An independent Inspector General issued a report last week faulting mid-level and senior officials in the Justice Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for failing to notify the attorney general of problems. One manager resigned and another retired when the report was released last week, but Grassley said thats not good enough.
The attorney general has been saying for months that he would hold off on any personnel action until the inspector generals report was released, Grassley said. Weve been hearing that for almost a year Let the inspector general finish his work and then well decide what to do. So, Mr. Attorney General, its time to hold people accountable.
About 1400 guns involved in the tracking program have vanished into Mexico and have not been recovered.
Grassley is a year late, and a few lives short.
Eric Holder is quaking in his boots. /s
Grassley (A gutless wonder)
“Seriously flawed response”? Are you kidding me? I am so sick of Republicans using politically correct euphemisms. Just say “LIES” Senator. Good God.
Your off base, if it wasn’t for Grassley none of you would have even known about fast and furious. The problem is the media and this administration, Senate cannot force Holder out.
Bingo! We have a winner! The mediacracy is the biggest problem. They put this administration into power, and they are the ones working hardest to keep it there.
People can only act on the information that they have, and while the MSM is dying, the question is, will it die fast enough to save the country?
” Your off base, if it wasnt for Grassley none of you would have even known about fast and furious.”
We learned about F & F from Issa a long time ago.
Yes, Grassley and Issa worked it together from beginning, one in the house and one in the Senate
Grassley mentioned Terry at the start of the video. He read a statement from the Terry family near the end of the video that mentioned hundreds of dead on both sides of the border. Aspects of the coverup take up most of the video.
Is any of this Fast and Furious fiasco on any MSM political ads on TV in battleground states?
