The euro zone's too biggest problem children - Spain and Greece - are under seige as protests against Prime Minister Rajoy's austerity budget rock Spain and Greek workers go on strike, nearly shutting down the country.
Reuters:
Violent protests in Madrid and growing talk of secession in wealthy Catalonia are piling pressure on Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy as he moves closer to asking Europe for rescue money.
Rajoy has been resisting calls from influential domestic bankers and the leaders of France and Italy to move quickly to request assistance, but a series of events this week will drive him closer.
With protesters stepping up anti-austerity demonstrations, Rajoy presents more painful economic reforms and a tough 2013 budget on Thursday, aiming to persuade euro zone partners and investors that Spain is doing its deficit-cutting homework despite a recession and 25 percent unemployment.
Fresh data on Tuesday suggested Spain will miss its public deficit target of 6.3 percent of gross domestic product this year, as the central government deficit reached 4.77 percent at the end of August, already higher than the year-end target.

As far as talks of secession, I fervently hope Texas leads the charge here.
not a charge, a takeover.
It’s what happens when more that half of the country don’t pay any taxes....they have no skin in the game..they literally either do not understand, or refuse to accept, that there is no more $$..that they have been living on borrowed funds for years..
No chance in California, rest of States will help California and its salaries, pension and welfare dependents.
We Californians are banking on rest of USA. ;-)
Hope not - California badly needs to detox economically. No more cash fixes.
The golden state has become the welfare state.
crybaby diaper state...
Well, if the rest of the other states didn’t go to the party, why should we pay for the party?
No foriegn aid for California!
The big difference between CA and the PIIGS is as evidenced by census data there is the safety valve of people moving from CA to places that do things right, for example TX.
as long as those from CA learn to become texans and not texans become californians.
Check your assumptions Mr. Journalist. Spain is cutting BECAUSE runaway govt spending created the recession and 25 percent unemployment.
I pray for the freepers stuck in commie-mexiafornia. They are going to crash...unless Obammy gets a second term and the power of the Congress to bail them out.
Will Texas stand through it all? We have zillions of foreign agents and American Idol wannabes here who have yet to find their “voice”. It’s up to God, really. Pray for Texas. Pray that Californians who have figured it out come to rescue Texas.
Thanks for your prayers; but I think they are wasted on my state. Beware of the exodus of the wealthy from California; they will bring the infection of diseased, progressive/liberal thought with them.
Always remember the people who can afford to leave are the parasites who made their money in the technology bubble, the progressive Hollyweird scene, the lawyers and termed out politicians, and the real estate moguls who got rich before the ponzi scheme crashed.
These people bring their insidious political schemes and beliefs with them, and corrupt the ground and people where ever they go.
