CHICAGO -- Former Chicago Bears quarterback Jim McMahon, who is suffering from early-stage dementia, has told a Chicago television station that while he appreciates what football has done for him, if he could do it over, he would play baseball.

In an interview with Fox affiliate WFLD-TV, aired Wednesday, the 53-year-old McMahon says he knows where he's going when in an airport. But when he meets people, "I'm asking two minutes later, 'Who was that?'

Yeah, I think Jim had a large target painted on him for a lot of opposing players to hit.

This thread led me here. Within the last 15 seconds a commentator asks why Martin is being congratulated. Some knew then, most know now.

Oh hell, I'm doomed. I've been doing that since my 20's.

Martin was revered by a lot of Packers fans after that, too. Packers fans are a mostly nuts.

FWIW, I don’t think I have dementia and two minutes after I meet someone I ask “Who was that?

Speaking as someone who lived 2 blocks from Lambeau at the time - no one revered Martin. He was a fringe player on a bad team. He also died some time ago.

Okay, I'll probably get a major flame for this, but-

How can anyone who has an ounce worth of sense NOT know that repeatedly smashing your head into something will eventually damage it?

The stories about how physically damaging the 'game' of football is have been around for a while, but no one seems to weep and wail about it until they run out of multimillion dollar contracts to sign.

you guys are so right!

I recently assessed my diet and started taking some good vitamins and it is making a world of difference

I lost 20 pounds, i have more energy, and can think more clearly than I have in years

For any freeper near or over age 50 DO THIS: Go to GNC and get some ‘mega-men’ vitamins and some magnesium, vitamin D, niacin, saw palmetto (or other ‘men’ and ‘virilty’ vitamins for prostate), fish oil, and try it for one month. You can also add melatonin and valerian for help sleeping

It may cost a few bucks (I spent almost $200 for one month) but it was worth it

oh- and stop eating bread and anything with wheat (just for one month) It may seem hard at first but now I do not miss it at all, and in fact do not even like the thought of eating bread. Meat and Eggs and Cheese and Milk (soybean milk is great!) and vegetables - nothing else (RELIGIOUSLY!!) for one month- you will be amazed at the diff. You cannot be half-hearted in the attempt, though.

Just TRY IT for one month- and see if any health issues you might have are diet and vitamin deficiency related

Say what you want. I knew many Packers fans and most of them thought what Martin did was pretty cool.

Isn’t he the one that started the bandana head wrap thing?

I think McMahon started the head/sweatband thing.

Deion Sanders started the "Doo-Rag" thing, which has now become a "looks like some Muslim skull cap" thing.

Brian Bosworth still flinches if you walk up behind him and whisper “Bo Jackson.”
