NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) — A man fatally shot a masked teenager in self-defense outside his neighbor's house during what appeared to be an attempted late-night burglary and then discovered it was his son, state police said.

Police identified the dead boy as 15-year-old Tyler Giuliano, who was shot at about 1 a.m. Thursday in New Fairfield, a town along the New York line just north of Danbury.

A different article mentioned that this neighbor and woman was the father’s sister (and the boy’s aunt).

The father confronted someone wearing a black ski mask and black clothing and then fired his gun when the person went at him with a shiny weapon in his hand, police said. When police officers arrived, the father was sitting on the grass next to the woman's home and the teen was lying in the driveway with gunshot injuries. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. "All in all it's a tragedy," state police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said.

WTF! Why would the boy try and rob his aunt next door and then come at his own father with a "shiny weapon"? This story is insane. But don't be surprised if the father takes his own life before the weekend. Prayers up.

Odds are it’s drug related.....sounds like paranoia wouldn’t even allow the 15 year old to go further than next door to pay for the habit. (Just my take from the story)

Indeed, prayers up!!!!!!

The kid probably owed some gang big-time. That would certainly explain why he would rob his own father.

Yours is the only plausible explanation. Heartbreaking.

Drugs, gangs....still, a very powerful obsession overriding all reason, completely myopic in nature, void of hope.

Sad indeed.

My experience, with drug users, was that they were completely untrustworthy. Their whole life revolved around the next high and there wasn’t anything there wouldn’t do to get it.

Sound like people are “assuming” the deceased boy was involved with drugs. I did not read that in the article. It is possible there were other reasons for the potential burglary. Just saying.

I agree. Prayers up for the father. Dear God, I don’t even want to imagine how that would feel.

“The teen’s father, Jeffrey Giuliano, a fifth-grade teacher in town, hasn’t returned a message seeking comment on what happened.”

I can’t imagine why. Filthy media bloodsuckers.

Really? We kill the crooks? I thought we just killed the killers. I find this story to be just tragic, through and through.

a lot more here than we’re being told. funny how dad had plenty of time to get his gun and get in position while the kid was allegedly breaking in. junior was dressed for night ops, and lunged at dad (didn’t he see who he was?)...don’t see much alternative here. junior precipitated this and i’m sorry but he apparently merited his demise

Really bad reporting. Why is it too much to ask that they inform us what the “shiny weapon” was in the perps hand?

When a kid goes to rob his aunt who is being visited by his dad, his life is already destroyed, and the community hasn’t lost anything.

A tradgedy for the father, a gift to the community.

“A tradgedy for the father, a gift to the community.”

That was what I was thinking, as well. Good riddance to this no good bastard. The father, though saddend by his “loss”, should think of this as objectively... he just cleaned out a criminal. A criminal is always somebody’s child.
