Blasphemy or democracy? Egypt cleric tears up, burns New Testament at US Embassy

Updated at 3:49 a.m. ET: CAIRO – An ultra-conservative Islamist cleric in Egypt faces charges of blasphemy after he allegedly tore up and burned copies of the New Testament at a protest in front of the American Embassy in Cairo.

Ahmed Mohammed Mahmoud Abdallah, also known as Sheikh Abu Islam, is part owner of a private ultra-conservative Islamic TV station known as Al Uma and was participating in demonstrations against a U.S.-made movie denigrating the Prophet Muhammad that swept the Muslim world in the last month.

Egypt’s General Prosecutor accused Abu Islam and his son, the channel's executive director, of insulting religion – in this case Christianity.

The case is a rare example of the country’s often-criticized blasphemy laws being used against someone who allegedly insulted a religion that is not Islam. That trial is scheduled to begin September 30.

Kind of analogous to someone standing on dry ground and throwing a life preserver to someone who is thrashing around in the ocean, and on the verge of going under. The guy in the water grabs the life preserver, and in a rage promptly destroys it ... The life preserver doesn't care, and the person on dry ground can only feel sorry for the person who deliberately destroyed his chance for life. Maybe the raging thrasher will get another life preserver thrown his way before he goes completely under, but the only person he was harming by shunning his hope was himself.

NBC just reporting the false equivalency and trying to gain sympathy for the Muslim Brotherhood/Islamist rule of Egypt. We are not suppose to question why Obama has had the movie maker arrested in America against constitutional protections and we are suppose to now think that critiquing any religion maybe should be illegal. The article also has a video link to the crazy Muslim woman who was arrested in NY for defacing the pro Israel ad pontificating on what caused the recent violence. You would think that NBC would have distanced themselves from that witch ASAP....but no..she is still an esteemed fake reporter.

Islam is about idol worship, such as their “book” and that rock in Mecca.

Christianity is about God. Burn the NT, it’s just a copy.

Liberals get a big kick out of slandering Jesus and Christians even to the point of installing a cultural cleansing program referred to as political correctness and an overwhelming America with a third world foreign invasion.

But they have the nerve to pretend offense at less than flattering descriptions of Islam. It is like when feminazis were against sexual harassment of employees until BJ hit on his intern Monica. They they all wore knee pads and took up sluthood. Wonder when they will be forced to throw off their fake burkahs.

What the cleric did is not blasphemy in Christianity.

1. He’s not a Christian; so he can say what he wants about Christianity; and besides,

2. If he were a Christian and if within his own Church what he did was blasphemy, that charge would have no effect whatsoever from the law as defined by government; and besides,

3. There is no Christian church today who would charge him, even as a member of their church, with blasphemy - they’d say he was stupid and just expell him from attending their particular church maybe but that would most likely be the worst of any “punishment” he would receive.

So, who arranged for this in Egypt?

It was probably arranged by the Muslim Brotherhood and it is nothing more than a stunt.

To the west it must be seen as a stunt and NOT reflective of any western standard of free speech.
