George W. Bush will give a speech on investing in the Cayman Islands right before the election
Death and Taxes ^ | ‎Sep 27, 2012‎ | Alex Moore

Former president George W. Bush isn’t exactly doing Mitt Romney any favors on the messaging front. As the current face of the Republican party, Mitt’s single biggest challenge has been distancing himself from his image as a business tycoon who got rich by outsourcing American jobs and then keeping big chunks of his fortune in Swiss bank accounts and invested in the Cayman Islands.

On election week, George W. will rub the sketchy Cayman Islands playboy image right in Mitt’s face.

BuzzFeed points out that W. will give the keynote address to the Cayman Islands Alternative Investment Summit, which goes down on Grand Cayman Island November 1-2, less than a week before the presidential election. The other keynote speaker will be the UK’s most famous billionaire playboy, Virgin’s Richard Branson, who owns his very own island not so far from Grand Cayman.

The Summit’s site says the event “will bring together the world’s leading institutional investors, fund managers, academics, economists and regulators in the Cayman Islands—the world’s leading domicile for investment funds—to discuss and debate the fundamentals of a vibrant future for the alternative investments industry.”

To most Americans, this is a pretty simple equation: “Cayman Islands” + “alternative investments” = “sketchy.”

George W’s Cayman keynote is just the latest in a long string of reminders about Romney’s ultra-rich status and possibly sketchy behavior— and he’s not getting a lot of help from the people around him.

Just last week former GOP candidate Tim Pawlenty left Rommey’s campaign in a high-profile departure to become a lobbyist for the banking industry, and promptly said that banks should just be allowed to regulate themselves. Last week Romney released his 2011 tax returns which showed him paying a 14% tax rate, and if the hackers who claim to have stolen his earlier records weren’t bluffing and haven’t been paid a ransom, they may release even more of Romney’s returns tomorrow.

Accidental or not, somehow the messaging around Mitt’s millions seem to be the most consistent the GOP is able to construct around Romney.

Bush is a pro-life patriot

That's what I was thinking when I voted for him 4 times (twice for gov. and twice for POTUS).

But if he is/was pro-life, why would he join the Kennedy gang, twisting arms to give (via amnesty) voting rights to 10s of millions who would vote overwhelmingly for pro-abortion (not to mention other leftist qualities) candidates?

RE :”When Bush left, the Dems were controlling the purse strings - Senate and House - and crashed the housing market.

This is exactly the type of GOP talk that makes me dread another Republican POTUS, especially Romney. Every time a R repeats these exact same excuses I think "No fing way again". They are so similar to Os excuses.

So Bush had NO responsibility for the economy after his 8 years?? HUMM. But you hold O responsible after only his first 2 years? You really buy that?

Oh, but in his 7th year GWB lost ‘the congress’ so he has NO responsibility for his 8, You mean like Obama lost his congress after only two years???. Obama is using thosesame excuses which sound exactly like yours (GOP standard points) for GWB: "Its all the Rs fault, I lost the congrss, BLA-BLA-BLA", man its the same song played backwards.

And how exactly did the Pelosi house crash GWBs so called rosy economy in 2007 and 2008 with Bush having a veto and Reid NOT having 60 in the Senate? Did they raise taxes, cut spending?

Look , NO-ONE who is honest with themselves will ever buy such contradictory arguments, never! The majority of voters would never buy such nonsense, and it has NOTHING to do with the biased media.

Is this the GOP vision of a Romney POTUS? Another sea of implausible excuses that only apply to the Rs? Well I want NO part of that again.

RE:” He (GWB) never fought back. Which again pissed me off. I can’t stand that.

You mean like Romney ‘our savior’ has refused to fight back while Obama tore him apart for 6 months? This is the man of the hour?

RE :”I know you can’t stand the guy(GWB) , but I just don’t have THAT level of hatred towards him.

Bad approach. My arguments are logical and MORE important they are consistent. Consistency is a great way to tell if someone is making up a world that doesn't exist.
I don't make up a completely different set of rules and logic depending on their party name. If GWB had NO responsibility after 8 then there is no fing way Obama can be responsible after only 2, then 4. Those Bush defense arguments ARE great arguments FOR Obama a re-election.

So Dems ruined Bush's great Home loan policies like these ??? :

Early in George W. Bush’s first administration, a home ownership initiative was introduced, sometimes referred to as the Blueprint for the American Dream, to close the homeownership gap by 5.5 million minority families. Along with this homeownership initiative, there were other policies implemented to dismantle barriers to homeownership in minority communities.” from :
The Great American Mortgage Scam & The Latino Community

GWB 2002 Speech :”More and more people own their homes in America today. Yet we have a problem here in America because fewer than half the Hispanics and African Americans own their own homes. That’s a home ownership gap; a gap that we got to work together to close. And by the end of this decade we’ll increase the number of minority homeowners (future Obama voters ) by 5.5 million families. “
“One of the major obstacles to minority home-ownership is financing. Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac (who I will bail out in 2008) have committed to provide more money for lenders, they committed to meet the shortage of capital available for minority home-buyers. Freddie Mac just began 25 initiatives around the country to dismantle barriers (like income requirements) and create better opportunities for home-ownership. One of the programs is designed to help families with bad credit histories to qualify for home ownership loans (by faking their income) . You don’t have to have a lousy home for first time home-buyers. You put your mind to it the first time low income home buyer can have just as nice a house as anyone else (till those adjustable rates go up). “

RE :”dang, done got ole SOL on a roll...hehehehe....

Every time.

2008 after being duped by GWB and GWB loyalists and apologists (his first term mainly) I swore I would NEVER let Rs re-write his history, regardless of their ulterior motives.
When I said never I mean NEVER. Such Intellectual dishonesty is what GOT us the Marxists in power and made the GOP a national joke.

I will never support a party that believes that those years were a success and they are all victims, that aint Reagan, that is a party of losers.

RE :”Under Bush, taxes were cut, and more than hundreds of thousands of jobs were created for Americans. Bush is a pro-life patriot who supported our military and took the battle to the Moslems. I agree with you that he was too nice to the ChiComs and the illegals at the Rio Grande. And he was way too nice to the Democrats. But there's just no comparison between GW and what went before him and came after him.”

You live in a fictional world. GWB was a complete disaster, He left this country after 8 years in a huge MESS and gave us the Obama/Pelosi Obama-care and other crap they passed. McCain may have been a loser but GWB gave a losing hand.

GWB is a large factor (obviously not the only reason) why the R party went from a Reagan legacy of winners to the current pathetic party of victim whiner losers. “Oh its so unfair” is the best they can come up with. Give me a break.

I take it back I would not vote for the proven horrible failure even to stop O'Bama.

I still "support" his cousin Milt though even though they may be identical cousins. I'm silly.

How about if Obama pulls a Grover Cleveland, loses and runs again in 2016 saying he was robbed, robbed!! Cause this is so much fun we just have to do it again!

That is fine. My vote wont count anymore than the R primary’s did so it really doesn't matter.

(Not specifically directed at you) But don't fall into the trap that many others do, they repeat Republican group BS so much that they actually start believing it. Successful Dealers have a saying :”Don't get high on your own supply” because they know it affects their judgment .

.......
Yep

Thanks, the subject hits a nerve.
GWB has the decency and common sense to not make political statements since he left office. I respect him for that. His saying anything would just cause problems.

Too Many Republicans have learned nothing since the 2008 time frame. From the beginning late 2008 I was posting that the national party needs a clean sweep.

I mean Out with the current congressional leadership Boehner, Canter, McConnell, and they need to run someone like Scott Walker who has no association with Republican past and who has taken REAL stands bravely and won. He can effectively articulate the points that Romney is making into a national joke.

To be trusted again they have to convince voters that they are different, which means they have to be, not just try to put on an act.

Which I’m not doing, by the way.

If it’s impossible to say anything nice about Dubya without it turning into a !^@%!@%!!-fest out here, then I’ll just leave it here and forget it.

You got your opinion, I respect it, and that’s that for me. He isn’t the President anymore, he did his part in this - for better and/or worse, and I’d rather deal with what we have to deal with now.

Now come on, you know me well enough to know that Bush excuses would get me going.

I am sure if you were trapped in an elevator with a Dem repeating all the O excuses you would probably walk out alone, BOOM.

The Green Berets is on the military history channel RIGHT NOW. Man that movie is funny. At the end when the Duke tells the gook kid that his adopted data the moocher bought it by the VC, the sun sets in the East.

I have it on DVR already, actually. Turner Classic Movies showed it a while back, and I made a copy.

Also have “Sgt York” as well. One of my favorites.

Just got Act of Valor, from On Demand. Excellent flick..
