The Election: What’s “Like” Got to Do With It?
The New American ^ | 27 September 2012 | Selwyn Duke

“I like Obama,” said a man I know of when explaining his support for the president. His sentiment isn’t unusual, as Barack Obama is, we’re told, a likeable man. In contrast, we hear that people have trouble “connecting” with Mitt Romney, that he’s an overly-starched blueblood who can’t relate to the common man.

Of course, it’s hard for people to connect with you when the only connection they have to what you say and do is through a media that hates you. In contrast, when that same media smoothes out your rough edges and whites out damning comments you make, it’s a lot easier to be likeable. This certainly is the case with Obama, a man who has called traditionalist Americans “enemies,” said that they “cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them…,” and considered his brief time in the corporate world as a case of “working for the enemy” (he seems to have a very unlikeable habit of viewing fellow Americans as “enemies”). And based on what I’ve heard through the grapevine, the real Obama exudes an arrogance that’s anything but appealing.

Let’s say, however, that I’m wrong and Obama is just the most affable bloke around. Is this really meaningful? Could it even be a red flag?

The author is right on. What many people like isn't always what is good.

How Americans can "like" pure evil is beyond comprehension. His support for infanticide is pure evil, and we can go on from there.

My take: I think Romney would be someone I could work with in my business whether he’s my supervisor or I his.

Obama would be someone I’d want every day to slap the dog s#!t out of every minute of every day - the know it all type, entitlement backstabber, tattletale, butt kissing, lazy, lying sack of crap

Liberals are ruled by their emotions. They make decisions based on their feelings. Reason has little or nothing to do with their worldview.

Like. Like? Are you (they) kidding. This is a smarmy despicable humanoid. The moment I saw and heard this guy I knew there was something negative there, a truly bad vibration. Perhaps I am prejudiced, beginning adulthood with a self-absorbed narissistic roommate. A mirror image of the man/child. Donald?

I'd put his command that American employers who oppose abortion must, despite their religious and moral objections, pay for abortions for their employees on the absolute evil list too. That is the most despicable, evil, unconstitutional, and unconscionable act of any White House occupant in our country's history. Sadly, the list is far longer than just Obama's support for post-birth abortion when a child accidentally survives an attempted abortion and Obama's virulent opposition to our basic, God-given human rights despite their absolute legal protection under the First Amendment. Obama disgusts me beyond words.
