N.J. High School Students Planning Cafeteria Boycott To Protest Obama Guidelines

N.J. High School Students Planning Cafeteria Boycott To Protest Obama Guidelines Parsippany Hills Students Ask, Why Should We Pay For The Obese's Problems? Students at Parsippany Hills High School held a strategy session on Thursday to discuss a potential lunch strike, on Friday, over what they have called inadequately sized meals.

“This year you’re eating lunch and you’re like ‘Did I even eat?’ You’re not even full,” senior Brandon Faris told CBS 2′s Derricke Dennis.

New federal guidelines stemming from first lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign have resulted in limits on protein and bread, and an increase in vegetables and fruits. The changes have also come at an increased cost.

All of it has also sparked a student campaign that has included online parody videos of students falling sleep in class and performing sluggishly in sports.

They hope to further their efforts with a cafeteria boycott that will cost the school money, and students like Faris said they want to know why they are paying the price for other people’s problems.

“If somebody’s obese why should someone like me who’s not obese have to suffer, and eat a small meal when I’d rather have a bigger meal?” he said.

Members of the food service industry told CBS 2 that new federal guidelines have caused a significant shift in portion size.

“There’s a lot less turkey on the sandwich, there’s 33 percent less turkey and the size of the bread has been reduced by a third,” explained Mark Vidovich, who runs Pomptonian Food Service.

The changes have caused some parents to step in and subsidize the small school lunches with brown bag meals from home.

“I certainly don’t want him to feel hungry,” said Kelly Caccavele, a parent of a Parsippany Hills student.

Bless your heart, Brandon. You must go hungry because some other kid eats junk food at home and is fat.

Of course, he will throw away his lunch of twigs and berries and head for the nearest fast food joint on the way home, while you are starving at football practice, but The Worst First Lady has decreed that this is good for all of you.

Before they reach voting age, maybe, just maybe these kids will learn the harsh lesson that elections have consequences.

Any bets on how quickly the MSM finds a way to demonize these kids as rich racists?

Those kids should just quit whining and bring their lunch from home.

Again, common sense taking a backseat. When I was in high school, I could easily consume 7,000 calories a day and still lose weight. When my metabolism slowed down, gone went the days of folding a large pizza in half and eating it like a taco.

Now, I'll gain 2 lbs just by looking at a pizza.

Growing teenagers need more calories to keep up with their metabolism at that point. No wondering they feel like they're starving. They are! So much for the party of compassion.

Michelle Obama is trying to starve kids!

My favorite comment from the site so far in response to a comment about food stamp recipients being quite plump: Citizen60: Simply have the food stamp be in the value of Calories versus a dollar amount. If high school lunch programs can have their caloric intake reduced to 700 calories. So can food stamp recipients. Although she doesn’t look like someone whose hunger could be satisfied with just 700 calories.

During the Great Leap Forward, Chairman Mao was informed that millions of people were starving. His response was "So what. Let them learn to eat less."

It appears his philosophy is still a favorite in the White House.

LOL! There may be hope yet!

I just want to know how the FedGuv can screw with food portions of school lunches and not Food Stamps?

Let me get this straight - these are the free or subsidized lunches, right? So people are complaining they're not getting enough free stuff and conservatives are supporting them? Insane. I don't think I ever ate from the cafeteria - what I brought from home was better in every way, and if you don't like what she school is serving, get up 5 minutes earlier and make your own (expletive deleted) lunch. We live in a nation of fatties, and today's chubby kid is tomorrow's diabetic, and that is a serious problem...

the major problem with teen obesity is what they do, or don't do....not what they eat. They get home from school and go to their room where they are on the computer, kindle, phone X-box, whatever. If their parents would shut all that stuff until after the supper hour, and kick junior out of the house to either do some yard work or become active in sports, obesity would decline dramatically.

Not all kids get free or reduced price lunch.

My daughter does exactly that if she doesn't like what is on the menu on any given day.

Not every kid is "chubby" and growing teens, especially athletes, need more caloric intake than what is being dictated here.

So far there haven't been many complaints, according to my daughter, and in fact she says the food in the high school cafeteria is actually better than what she had in the middle school last year.
