NJ Students Plan Strike to Protest Obama Food Rules

As many as 1,000 students at a New Jersey high school are expected to boycott their cafeteria today to protest the Obama administration’s new lunch guidelines that many teenagers say are leaving them hungry. Instead of purchasing their lunch in the cafeteria, many students at Parsippany Hills High School are brown-bagging it – upset over smaller portions and higher prices. “We’re asking everybody not to buy lunch or anything from the cafeteria,” student Brandon Faris told the Parsippany Patch. Faris, a 17-year-old senior and junior Nicholas Caccavale, organized the strike and more than 1,000 of their classmates have joined a

One day is symbolic and pathetic. They should make the strike long-term. Stop buying meals that don’t contain enough food. The cafeterias will lose money if they cook food, pay staff, and don’t sell meals. They will go back to serving enough food and make it edible, or they will have to close down. Better yet, make this an opportunity to learn to bring their own tasty lunches, and don’t go back to eating cheap cafeteria food even once the portions become tolerable.

Brown-bagging it?

I think I remember something like that back in the late 50s and early 60s when I was in high school.

What a concept!

I wonder if this is some sort of “trial run” to condition people into accepting government imposed food rations. Obey Obama, obey the Party, and you will be rewarded with a loaf of bread and pint of milk. Otherwise, you starve.

This is bigger than it may seem.

It’s the perfect real-world metaphor for what is wrong with liberalism in general, and federal government meddling in particular.

And it’s happening all across the country right now.

For every kid who’s disappointed, there are two parents who vote (ok, maybe one).

It validates everything the Tea Parties were trying to say.

I was in school in the 50’s we didn’t have a cafetaria, we all brown bagged it.Then we folded the bag and took it home for the next day.

We didn’t have lockers either. The bag went into the desk, and hopefully when you got back to home room at lunch time you still had a lunch.

When we changed to shorts for Phys-Ed we did it in the boy’s bathroom, and we didn’t have showers, we sat in class the rest of the day in our sweat.

I belonged to the FFA rifle team and we brought our rifles to school on competition days. When there was a fight it was between two boys and no one else. It wasn’t considered polite to interrupt or get involved. We all carried ajck knives ,but we never used them in fights.A couple of us Sr.s dated the art teacher, she was only a couple of years older than us , no one thought much of it.

Obama is the Redistribution king of the world and Michelle is his queen.

Not only does Obama think Americans are too well doctored, too warm in summer, too cool in winter and too well-fed, he wants us to redistribute our wealth and our FOOD to those countries which we have economically “colonized”.

I think the ULTERIOR motive here is to get Americans to eat less so we send more food overseas.

Obama is a total maniac and so his wife and, of course, these rules DON’T apply to the king and queen, or any of their court.

Just ask that sourthern cook Deena what’s her name with the TV show. She said Michelle wouldn’t stop stuffing her face on her cooking program.

They SHOULD brown bag their lunches. Tell the government control freaks to go stuff it - the can feed themselves.

This is just like the non-importation agreements concerning British goods before the American revolution (the First One).

In our district, the students are sneaking out and buying their lunches at Wendys and other local businesses. The school district sent letters to the businesses “requesting” that they not sell to students during school hours. The businesses told the district what it could do with its request.

There is a school board meeting on Wednesday, and I hear a number of irate parents will be attending. I don't normally go to these meetings, but I might attend this one. It should be fun. I'll bring the popcorn.

This past Monday I was at a Bible study group. Several members are retired teachers. One member is involved with all the paperwork needed to comply with all the government mandates and evaluation of testing processes, etc.. Anyway, she was telling us about how much food was being wasted in the public shools this year because the kids simply are resisting eating the stuff that Michelle Obama has shoved down their throats

My friend described kids in line who refused to have the vegetables of the day put onto their plates. When they were told thay HAD to have the veggies, they said “OK”, and immediately shoved them into the waste basket as they were going to their tables.

And, then the education establishment will cry that they need more money from the taxpayers.

I fear for the future of our country.

They make everyone else's kids eat smaller portions of food they don't like.

Meanwhile, the Obamas are constantly seen stuffing their faces with endless amounts of rich, delicious foods - paid for by the taxpayers.

This is all funny from a far, but I will add:

It was Al and Tipper Gore who put me on the path towards Conservatism when they tried to ban music with offensive lyrics (why we now have warning labels).

These kids are getting first-hand experience with Fascists and it will leave a detectable mark for the rest of their lives.

Hey, come on, kids; you know only too well that salads, celery sticks, carrot sticks, yogurt, and steamed organic veggies are the best thing with which to worship the Temple of the Body.

Huh?

What’s that?

Who... me?

No, I can’t stand that flavorless health food sh*t either.

(And.. pssst... by the way - neither can the president’s wife.)

I bet if an unbiased nutritionist were to analyze the food and food portions, I’d be betting they meal sizes are closer to 500 calories. That would explain why it’s not enough food and the kids stay hungry.

Im betting somebody is skimming a couple hundred calories off each meal for profiteering purposes.

It’s not allowed by these profiteers of the public purse.

Many moms have made their kids nutritionally-acceptable brown bag lunches, only to have thrown away under pretenses.

Unfortunately the food monitors will check and if it isn’t in their eyes nutritionable, they’ll throw it out.

I don’t think there’s an ulterior motive, unless you count pure hunger for power. But that’s behind everything they do. The thing is they genuinely want to help kids with two contradictory problems: obesity and not exactly undernourishment but less than optimal eating. Because they are leftists the way to do so is to assume the role of parent.

Most likely, because they are incompetent and because of the inherent shortcomings of central planning they will probably make more kids fat and more hungry.

Same here. I went all 12 years to Catholic schools in Detroit in the 50s. We brown bagged it every day. There were four of us kids. We could buy milk in the hallways; I never saw a cafeteria. Never left the house without some kind of home made breakfast. Mom was a stay-at-home, and dad was cop. If they could do that, so can these people today.

Now my kids can - during school - open the refrigerator to grab lunch. Home schooling is better!!
