Excommunication Should Be the Church's Next Option
Irish Examiner USA newspaper ^ | 9/26.2012 | Alicia Colon

Although I may not be the best Catholic I can be, at least I know my religion. It drives me crazy when politicians like Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Sen. John Kerry, VP Joe Biden and Gov. Andrew Cuomo who consider themselves Roman Catholics express such ignorance of its dogma. I blame their pastors for continuing to serve them in spite of their public heresy promoting issues that are against Church doctrine. But it is also very unnerving to hear President Obama twist Christian ideology to suit his campaign rhetoric.

The fact that they haven’t been excommunicated ALREADY is proof enough of how infiltrated and weak the Catholic Church institution has become. Back in the old days you could get burned at the stake. Now, you’re lucky if your Priest isn’t marching for social justice next to commies.

If you can’t follow the covenants of your own church you can’t go around saying you’re a member of it.

Never forget that Cardinal O’Connor rightly refused a known mobster Paul Castellano a Catholic burial. Yet pro- abortion so called Catholic politicians who have acquiesced to human carnage are not excommunicated. Geraline Ferraro, a horrible pro abortion politician, was given a Catholic funeral. The next Pope must act decisively.

Clear them all out the day after Romney’s inauguration.

Then Romney needs to clear out all the muzzlems and commies in the gummint.

I think an indirect route would be better. That is, instead of the Church itself excommunicating them, one or more of the faithful lay organizations should take out full page ads around the US, notifying Catholics that,

“The following individuals are no longer to be considered Catholics in good standing in the Church, though they still claim to be Catholic. Until they renounce Satan and all his works, and seek heartfelt public absolution, and receive such absolution from their bishop, Catholics should avoid them, lest they or their loved ones also be seduced into transgression and iniquity.”

That would be the majority: http://www.peacebyjesus.com/RC-Stats_vs._Evang.html#TOC

And while some see official statements automatically excommunicating liberal RCs, effectually this is not what is communicated, (debated here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/religion/2901874/posts?page=89#89) but are typically treated as members in life and in death (like Teddy K).

“I stand with the great majority of American bishops and bishops around the world in saying this canon was never intended to be used this way.’’ — from the thread (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/2247058/posts) on Cardinal Donald Wuerl of the Washington archdiocese : Why I Won’t Deny Pelosi Communion (under whose jurisdiction Father Marcel Guarnizo, the priest who was suspiciously placed on administrative leave [removed from active ministry], after he denied Communion to a openly lesbian “Buddhist Catholic” woman: ostensibly not as a consequence of treatment of the lesbian).

Albany Bishop Howard Hubbard says it is “unfair and imprudent” to conclude that Gov. Andrew Cuomo and his girlfriend, Sandra Lee, shouldn’t receive Communion simply because they’re living together. — from the thread (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/religion/2679260/posts) Bishop: None of your business (Hubbard rejects Catholic expert’s criticism of Gov. Cuomo)

Archbishop Timothy Dolan also does not outright deny the sacrament to dissenting Catholic lawmakers, yet he is seen as an outspoken defender of church orthodoxy.
— from the thread US bishops elect NYC archbishop as head in upset (Catholic bloggers blamed)

And recently you have Notre Dame, approving the use of student organization funds to finance a trip for five of its students to Washington DC for a rally supporting Gay “marriage.” The Notre Dame students marched two miles across D.C. and then joined gay rights activists for a Capitol Hill rally. - http://www.cardinalnewmansociety.org/CardinalNewmanSociety/tabid/36/ctl/Details/mid/435/ItemID/710/Default.aspx

And the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops inviting President Barack Obama to attend the annual dinner of the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation (Founded Francis Cardinal Spellman in 1946 to help the poor of NYC), on October 18, where he can expected to be applauded, not reproved, and which he will used to infer approval.

And as a former Roman Catholic i see most of the evangelism by RCs being that of incessant promotion of their church, and more attention and concern being on former liberal RCs who become conservative evangelicals, than on liberal RCs.

——————————————————————————————wonderful idea, lets make it a pay-for-view.

Don’t think it would work...it would work very well. remind them of their mortality and the next life is the one that matters and that they will be judged by someone who knows all.

I'll subscribe to that -- an atheist, like his mothher.

But with strong sympathies for Islam and Islamic "culture"...

It’s all about the money. The RC Church is the oldest most profitiable mutlinational corporation in history. They can make more money by overlooking certain things(think Kennedy clan).

The message really isn’t for the named politicians and bureaucrats. Most of them have already chosen their fate, and it is not Catholic.

The message is for good Catholics, and is accurate that they should not have anything to do with those on their list, because theirs is the path of destruction.

As a "fallen away Catholic" I have to call a measure of BS on this. It's one thing for a "Catholic" lay politician to espouse heterodox views, and it's quite another when so many of the American clergy are more or less openly gay in the teeth of long established Church policy barring men with deep-seated homosexual feelings from Holy Orders.

That Catholic Church doesn't get to have it both ways. They can either keep their own rules and remove purge all gay clergy from its ranks, or it can STFU about heterodox lay Catholics.

It can't do both, unless Holy Mother Church has without my knowledge sanctioned hypocrisy as Christian virtue.
