San Franciscos New Archbishop Worries Gay Catholics By NORIMITSU ONISHI September 29, 2012
SAN FRANCISCO At Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in the Castro, this citys largest gay district, about 20 of the faithful gathered for 8 a.m. Mass recently, clustering in the middle pews. Led by a visiting priest from nearby Oakland, the parishioners joined in celebrating the 30th anniversary of a gay couple.
St. Marys Cathedral in San Francisco, where Bishop Salvatore Cordileone is to be installed as the new archbishop. His work against gay marriage worries some parishioners.
Bishop Salvatore Cordileone is a rising conservative who led the fight against same-sex marriage in California
The celebration was not out of place in San Francisco, at least not in those parishes that have somehow bridged the colossal gap between their gay members lives and church doctrine. But the appointment of a new leader of the archdiocese here Bishop Salvatore Cordileone, 56, a rising conservative who led the fight against same-sex marriage in California has many gay and lesbian Roman Catholics worried about the fate of these sanctuaries.
At a cafe where some of the parishioners met after Mass, many said they would take a wait-and-see attitude toward Bishop Cordileone, who has led the Oakland Diocese for the past three years and is scheduled to be installed as archbishop here on Thursday, the feast of St. Francis, San Franciscos patron saint. Some expressed hope that in getting to know his followers here, Bishop Cordileone would come to see things their way.
Others were more defiant, saying nothing would shake their faith.
In a sense, I am glad that the church is sending the top guy that they have the top antigay because it means that we, as a community of Catholics, have done .................

It’s not the Bishop they should be worried about. It’s He Who the Bishop works for that they’ll have to answer to.
It is not possible.
You can be homosexual and celibate (or marry the opposite sex and behave normally sexually) and be Catholic, or you can be a homosexual CINO. Regrettably, there are a number of priests who are Catholic In Name Only.
HOMOSEXUAL, because there’s nothing GAY about it.
So they will need to follow the CCC and scriptures....long overdue.
The ones who are worried are,in fact,Unitarian/Universalists masquerading as Catholics. The Catholic Church isn't a democracy...Christs word was crystal clear on numerous points, including issues of basic morality and immorality. It ain't rocket science..."thou shalt not" means *don't do it or there will be very severe consequences*.
It’s simple, really.
If your homosexual identity is more important to you than your Catholic identity,
Then you are in the wrong church. Buh-bye!
Don’t let the church door hitcha where the good Lord splitcha.
How far we have fallen. I’ve been watching youtube videos of people who have died and came back. Some extremely scary and extremely beautiful visions. We all have to answer to The Almighty.
“gay Catholic”... as phony as “gay marriage”
“those parishes that have somehow bridged the colossal gap between their gay members lives and church doctrine”
You said - “It is not possible.”
I say, a bridge from New York to France would be easier.
your statement is completely ignorant as to Catholicteachings....Catholice love Gay people as much as they love anyone else. You can be gay and a Catholic at the same time...you can be a pedophile, an alcoholic, a whatever....you just cannot act on your temptations. A person who is attracted to a same sex partner has comitted no sin whatsoever...it is only when that person acts on that attraction that a sin might occour. Homosexual activity is forbidden...being a homosexual is not.
Yet how far the perversion is carried out in the mind is of no concern to God?
probably not...you are certainly not responsible for your proclivities, nor your temptations. Good grief, if everyone is held responsible for their temptations...Heaven would be a very lonely place.
Your neighbors wife/daughter looks mighty fine, your business deal that could net you many thousands if you'd only lie a little but you didn't....is the temptation a sin....of course not...you are responsible for what you do, not what you're tempted to do....
Though Jesus thought it was, in Matthew 5:28, for example.
Now, I’m not a Christian, though I believe that God takes a dim view of how far we’d go in our minds with what would certainly be sinful activity were it carried out. Would God allow the limit to perversion as in calculus? How would that make for a healthy and Godly mind?
It’s admittedly almost a trick question, but a real one nonetheless.
Although you win no empathy for your arrogant attitude, I hear you and agree... although I disagree there is such a thing as “gay marriage.” That is a lie.
This Archbishop has a spine. God bless him!
Careful who's around when you say things like that...
You’re not a Christian yet you lecture another Freeper on Catholic theology?
