California Becomes First State In Nation To Ban ‘Gay Cure’ Therapy For Teens

California state Sen. Ted Lieu, D-Torrance, sponsored the bill to ban a controversial form of psychotherapy aimed at making gay youth straight.

By James Eng, NBC News California has become the first state in the nation to ban therapy that tries to turn gay teens straight.

Gov. Jerry Brown announced Sunday that he has signed Senate Bill 1172, which prohibits children under age 18 from undergoing “sexual orientation change efforts.” The law, which goes into effect Jan. 1, prohibits state-licensed therapists from engaging in these practices with minors.

"Governor Brown today reaffirmed what medical and mental health organizations have made clear: Efforts to change minors' sexual orientation are not therapy, they are the relics of prejudice and abuse that have inflicted untold harm on young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Californians," Clarissa Filgioun, board president of Equality California, said in a press release.

Kate Kendell, executive director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, added: “Governor Brown has sent a powerful message of affirmation and support to LGBT youth and their families. This law will ensure that state-licensed therapists can no longer abuse their power to harm LGBT youth and propagate the dangerous and deadly lie that sexual orientation is an illness or disorder that can be ‘cured.’”

I say, equal rights for all. To match this law, there should also be a law that no straights can be “cured” by sex change operations that make them gay, or by any gay or transgender counseling!

Law is not a one way street, favoring only the pervs.

Wait, why the heck did they include “transgender”s? Most of them are straight. This would have nothing to do with whatever therapy they’re in.

Wow. That really says a lot about gay culture.

I can not for a single nano-moment believe such a law could ever be deemed legal.

Clearly an unconstitutional law. Free speech and free association v. the states need to regulate medical therapy. Unless the state is prepared to regulate all counseling done by private individuals as “therapy”, then this law is arbitrary.

If challenged in court this would lose. You cant ban it justbecause you do not like it. People want to leave homosexuality (known as same sex attraction to many) because they KNOW its wrong. Amazing how so many gays KNOW they are gay but the ones who KNOW its wrong apparently do not KNOW like the liberal lie-to-self types KNOW.

The California legislature has to be the most sexually obsessed legal body in the world. Maybe after the bankruptcy liquidators cart off all the desks, microphones and speaker podiums from the state assembly and senate buildings they'll realize there are bigger problems than deviant rights.

I’ll tell you how they do it: reproductive concubinage. “Clinics” springing up in India to cater to gay “reproductive tourists” from Holland, Germany, USA, looking for a womb to rent.

2009 CDC estimates show that gay and bisexual men who comprise about 2% of the U.S. population account for 61% of new HIV infections. It’s also noteworthy that by ethnicity Black non-Hispanics which make up 12% of the population account for 44% of new infections. HIV is the 4th leading cause of death among Black men ages 25-44.
It’s reasonable to believe that a parent would discourage a child from this ‘lifestyle decision’ solely for the health implications and regardless of political ideology. In fact one might even suggest that those responsible for this legislation share culpability for the future mortality rates among the Black population.

That means it kills the propaganda in the schools to orient children to the gay life style.

I thought the state of California stated there is no cure for homosexuality. So, how can you ban something that doesn't exist?

It's kinda like Imanutjob in Persia. He states there are no homosexuals in Persia. He is probably correct, the Persians hang homosexuals.

In a related story, California is also considering expanding this to cover minors who believe that they were born the wrong gender, and to bar therapists from trying to convince them otherwise. Additionally, Governor Jerry Brown suggested parents should not be able to prevent their children from seeking medical help with regard to their gender identity. “We need to protect the rights of minors with regard to their sexual preferences and identity” Governor Brown said, “and this should include the right to affirm their gender identity, even if that includes undergoing a medical procedure”. [And the fact that some of you may need this SARCASM tag says a lot, doesn’t it!]

Ex-gays are a threat to the homosexual agenda, so the liberals must try and discredit them at all costs. That’s why the MSM gave so much attention to Robert Spitzer, Warren Throckmorton, and Alan Chambers betraying the former homosexuals, not to mention the character assassination of Marcus Bachmann.

Unfortunately the media and liberal politicians/judges will ignore them. The only “former gays” they care about are relapsed, or “unhappy”; “see, gays can’t change and Christians are wrong” is the message they want to spread.
