(CNN) GOP vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan said Sunday he's not counting on gaffes from Vice President Joe Biden when they debate on October 11.
"I don't think he will. You know he doesn't do that in debates. The gaffes - he's kind of legendary for this - that's not in these kind of situations," Ryan said on "Fox News Sunday." "He's a very disciplined person when he speaks in these kinds of situations. He doesn't produce gaffes in these moments. Those are when he's off the cuff."

Ryan's a pro.
he is saying he isn’t planning around plugs making an ass of himself. but he will take advantage of it. professional golfers don’t play with an assumption their competitors will bogey a hole but they take advantage when it happens.
I think Ryan is saying that Plugs will sober up for the debate, but even so, I can take him.
Wise decision. If your strategy depends on your opponent making a mistake then you’ve lost already.
Ryan saved his Big Gun for The One today on FNC. He told Chris Wallace:
” I would argue our president is replacing our founding principles.
I don’t think Ryan would take advantage of a Biden gaffe. He absolutely should, but he’s too polite. Our candidates need to ditch the courtesy and take off the gloves. Hussein’s people will have their guys fighting like street thugs; we need to counter.
I can’t agree. Listening to the CSPAN Radio replay I found Ryan evasive, deflecting; he came across like he had something to hide. I was not enthused and found no comfort.
I think he meant to say...”I’m not counting THE gaffe’s from Biden”.
I think Ryan handled himself well considering he was facing a hostile examiner.
That's a very difficult position. Chris was trying to move Ryan off message because it makes for good reportage...Ryan didn't fall for it.
All Ryan would have to do is look directly into the camera and at the audience and raise an eyebrow.
He is quite good at that.
Ryan........He’s a very disciplined person when he speaks in these kinds of situations, Romney......... he is a descent man and a good father. Hold the sh## guys, these cretans are destroying us we put our trust in you two and you kiss thier a##es with nice things to say about them. STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT! Get the hell in thier and fight! If you loose this because of your nonsense nice guy attitude your just as bad as they are and history will remember you!
What? Will Biden just stare into the camera and refuse to speak?
a gaffe from biden is not a win, it is a short lived humorous joke.
I’m not worried about Ryan handling Biden; and Biden will make a gaffe, just as he did in 2008, talking about rest visiting a restaurant in DE that had been closed for 20 yrs.
Romney I am worried about, because the initial questions will be deliberately designed to trip him up; and Mitt publicly disclosed that he is working on means to improve his communications with middle class families. I think I am more nervous than Romney, which is ridiculous but honest.
Mitt understands how consequential this election is for his children and grandchildren.
Moreover, everything in Mitt’s life has prepared him for this moment and, unlike McLame, Romney WANTS to be president and will FIGHT for it - so there is plenty of reason for optimism.
What’s a 3 letter word for employment?
Employed by the US government to spend your money.
Ryan like an old style sports competitor pumps and give accolades to his opponent, then he beats him good.
“J - O - B - S ...Jobs” (Clueless Joe)
I don’t think I will be as nervous for Mitt as I always was for W. I sweated it out watching W in the debates and he did fine.
Damn, you beat me to it.
