Top U.S. Commander in Afghanistan: We’re Willing to Fight – But ‘Not Willing to Be Murdered'

(CNSNews.com) - Gen. John Allen, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, says he's "mad as hell" about the increasing number of insider attacks, in which Afghan soldiers and police murder the Americans who are trying to train them.

"You know, we're willing to sacrifice a lot for this campaign. But we're not willing to be murdered for it," Gen. Allen told CBS' "60 Minutes" in a segment that aired on Sunday.

Gen. Allen told CBS Correspondent Lara Logan that the insider attacks will continue: "The enemy recognizes this is a vulnerability. You know, in Iraq, the signature weapon system that we hadn't seen before was the IED. We had to adjust to that. Here, I think the signature attack that we're beginning to see the -- is going to be the insider attack."

Allen also said "the vast majority” of Afghans are "with us in this." He noted that a number of Afghans have been killed trying to save NATO forces from rogue Afghans.

A Taliban commander -- described as a specialist in suicide bombings who was trained by al Qaeda -- also spoke to "60 Minutes," telling Lara Logan that the Taliban is behind the insider attacks:

"These are Taliban attacks," the unnamed man said. "This is part of our new military strategy. We have our people in the Afghan police and the army. And the orders come from the top."

The Taliban representative told CBS that al Qaeda fights are flowing into Afghanistan, helping to make the Taliban more effective in killing NATO troops:

"We can't do this without them (al Qaeda)," he said. "They are masters of everything. For example, making IEDs, something we don't know how to do. But they are teaching us. They are also master engineers and good

If they are mostly “moderate”, why is it that there can always be large crowds of them found when they want to protest about their “rights” or banning free speech or something like that-right here in the US-but I have never seen one, not even one, out protesting after an attack on the US? The only “moderate” muzzies are those who are non-practicing, and even they don’t protest against the violence.

AGAIN I say: EVERY Afghani, soldier or Police, needs to be “marked” by a US soldier. If they raise a weapon at any US soldier they need to be dispatched with extreme prejudice.

Summarily execute by firing squad anyone wearing a uniform that attacks Americans. We did it in WW2.

Like Israel, when an Afghani goes rogue, MAKE HIS FAMILY AND VILLAGE pay a high price. Bulldoze the family homes and village. Forcibly transplant them 500 miles to an unfamiliar part of the country where they will be occupied with struggling to survive.

Finally, GET OUR TROOPS OUT! Tell Afghan government that the skies will be full of drones monitoring all activity. Anything considered of hostile intent, like terrorist training camps, will be destroyed without notice.

Unleash 500,000 feral pigs in the poppy fields responsible for so much heroin. The drug lords will be forced to employ countless Afghani’s who normally join the Taliban and AQ, to protect the Poppy fields.

OR, just Nuke the country from orbit. It is the only way to be sure.

Those who think they're going to get anything else but more of this pc crap out of Mitt Romney are deluding themselves.

"I didn't refer to Islam at all, or to any other religion for that matter. I spoke about three major threats America faces on a long term basis. Jihadism is one of them, and that is not Islam. If you want my views on Islam, it's quite straightforward. Islam is one of the world's great religions and the great majority of people in Islam want peace for themselves and peace with their maker. They wan t to raise families and have a bright future. There is, however, a movement in the world known as jihadism. They call themselves jihadists and I use the same term. And this jihadist movement is intent on causing the collapse of moderate Muslim states and the assassination of moderate Muslim leaders. It is also intent on causing collapse of other nations in the world. It's by no means a branch of Islam. It is instead an entirely different entity. In no way do I suggest it is a part of Islam."

I understand Obama will be “helping” by not allowing any more close air support for our troops. That should eliminate those nasty headlines when a chopper goes down. Do the R.O.E. remain the same? You can’t shoot unless the enemy kills you first.

Frankly, it sounds like he is willing to let the troops get murdered. It seems to me that he has had his ROE given to him and there is nothing he can do to protect the troops.if I were in his shoes I would Resign.

And now that Gen. Allen has publicized this practice of "insider" suicide attacks and made it vastly more well known over here, I would imagine the incidence of them will ramp up rapidly, perhaps bringing about precisely what the enemy wants, us the hell out of there.

I'm quite sure Gen. Allen is well aware of the likely outcome as a result of his public statement.

My guess is the CIC was consulted prior to it being made, or it was made at the behest of the CIC.

Bingo. That's exactly what he can do and indeed should do if he believes the things he said. Let's face it, the ROE are f'd up because the pols don't want bad press and are happy to let American soldiers be murdered in their own bases rather than get a "scandal" of actually rooting out 5th column Muslims from our forces. The press will bury the story of American deaths to protect Obama. The most effective thing this general could do then is to make this a scandal that they have to write about by resigning loudly and publicly.

That statement won’t make Obama and his fellow Alinskyites in the WH, they’ll probably consider dumping the Gen. for insubordination.

What specific ROE are you referring to and where can we find the most recent written version of it?

I don’t see any ROE that’s going to stop all blue on green murders . I also don’t see why we’re still there.

Thought provoking.

Clausewitz defines war as an act of violence intended to compel our opponent to fulfill our will.

Either those of opposing will must remain as opposing nations checked by our national defense or they must be overcome and subjected to our will.

International peace will not come by acquiescing to the doctrines of murder and evil advocated by Islam.

“It is unconscionable that people are being murdered over there because the rules of engagement deliberately put our troops at a disadvantage. “

That's probably the big thing that most people are unaware of.
I'm betting our guys could clean this up quickly if they were allowed to do what is needed.
The public would probably be infuriated if they knew how our people are limited.

The lawyers who make up the rules up, should be placed in out in front and make them find the IED’s.

Problem is we're getting a massive influx of Islams into this country who are turning into jihadists. Now, since it isn't pc to profile anyone here, we are stuck with the situation. The only time we do anything to a jihadist is arrest them and send them to Gitmo for a couple of weeks of R&R. Then release them. Sad isn't it. USA becoming EU.

The goal of war is to get your enemy to stop fighting. Insider attacks stop training of troops loyal to the mayor of Kabul, Karzai and get us to quit fighting sooner.

We are training the future Taliban and some of them want to kill Americans before we all leave. Their fathers and grandfathers that killed Russians are still heroes in their villages.

What is interesting is that the shooters usually drop their weapons afterward and quickly give up. They know they will be treated better in prison than in the Afghan army and they all know this:

They will be released as soon as the Americans are gone.

Think about it. What is their downside?

Weapons and military tactics will not win this war. The only things that you can send to Afghanistan to win this war are Missionaries. When the West is serious about endings its 15 century war with Islam we will admit we are fighting a war with Islam. You must give these people a reason to question and change their core beliefs and killing them doesn’t do it that well or at all. They need something to believe in that gives them a purpose that is not contrary to Western civilization.
